Twelve Months of Training and Travel

It truly is.

It's a fine line, pushing enough to help get you stronger, immune system to kick in...without overdoing it and backsliding

Now I feel a tad silly for not pushing harder. Oh well... at least it is for true a PR for Steve and POT.

Well, to your point the "official" time may still be off a bit so in your case it may or may not have been worth it. Plus you are doing like a bazillion races between now and the deadline if you do want something better you will certainly have the chance!

It would be the same shoe. I just feel kinda silly that I didn't order through them in the past thinking that I couldn't wear and then return.

I totally get that. I almost didn't order them for that very reason but saving $50 swayed me. No reason they shouldn't be fine but I do love knowing I can just take it back to RR if it wasn't. It's so silly though, my biggest hangup was colors. Do I get the exact same as I have...which I really like (black) or do I get a white shoe for spring summer (which would get trashed right now in the rain and muck) or do I buy one of each before the model is gone. :lmao:

Wednesday WAS a VERY icky day. That was the day we had the wind here. I never know if you get the same amount of wind that we do though since we get the freak wind storms here that Seattle doesn't get. Sometimes the entire PS region is gusty and other times it is just us.

Exactly, we will get rain and snow that other regions don't get due to our elevation. Wednesday was nasty. Jeff didn't run either. He could have without me but I think he liked the asy out.

I would imagine you are extra cautious. I kind feel like I am with shoes... But when issues can cause such discomfort it is worth being cautious!!!

I will cross my fingers that they are ok!!!

Well I've worn them about 4 times now. 2 runs and 2 other times. They really are amazing. I can't even begin to explain the difference. Because I wear progressives, the bigger lens that actually wraps a bit feels like the clarity of my whole world, and especially my peripheral vision has grown by leaps and bounds. It is amazing. SO light, so comfy and wow, I can SEE! Wore the sun/shade lens on Friday (which OMG we so overdressed for, holy meltdown) and then the clear ones last night. It made running at night SO much better it was crazy. SO crazy I kept going past where Jeff and I had agreed to stop. :rotfl2: In all fairness, I didn't see him at the car (figured he'd have turned on his blinkie) and I felt great so I just kept going. At a certain point he chased after me to yell at me (didn't have my blinkie but did have my vest and we only needed it towards the end). Turns out he was worried about the car getting locked in the lot which, given that a cop was there shutting gates as we rounded the corner, was a fair concern. :lmao: lot closes at dusk. Talk about a sprint to the finish!

Even if I am allergic, honestly, they are worth it. I will figure out some kind of barrier. I did put on my non steriod cream pretty heavily in the spots they touch before the run and didn't have any issues. The test will be in the heat I think as the foam they use actually kind of molds to you in the heat so they don't slip.

I have been dragging my feet on registering for next weeks race. I LOVE the RunSnoqualmie races. The promoter does a great job putting them on. They are super well organized. Also, the courses are pretty flat. It is just a long drive.

That is a hike from where you are. Is Steve doing it to or just you? I have to admit, I don't think I'd drive that far for a 5K. But it sounds like a lot of fun.

I will post results soon. I know it is "official". I just can't get past thinking that it isn't as accurate as it perhaps should be. Your time starts the minute the clock does regardless if you cross the second it does or 5 minutes later. You cross the finish and rely on a person to manually stop to clock at the exact second you cross. Is there enough wiggle room to alter place? Probably not. Your overall time? Definitely.

You are right thought, there is plenty of time for me to get a new POT (if that is what I want...and I am not even sure I want to) I just like accuracy.

II totally get that. I almost didn't order them for that very reason but saving $50 swayed me. No reason they shouldn't be fine but I do love knowing I can just take it back to RR if it wasn't. :rotfl: I could see having that same dilemma! I know color of shoes can be an odd thing to care about... but when I am thinking race attire, I kinda want my shoes to match.

IExactly, we will get rain and snow that other regions don't get due to our elevation. Wednesday was nasty. Jeff didn't run either. He could have without me but I think he liked the asy out.

Running in the rain is not a ton of fun. I don't blame either of you for skipping it. A little rain, I can kinda handle without any issues. Coming home and needing to peel off dripping wet clothes... is just yucky.

Sounds like they are pretty slick!

Man! I can see why Jeff would be concerned. I had my car locked in somewhere once and it was such a pain to get to it!

Sounds like the cream might be a great solution!

That is a hike from where you are. Is Steve doing it to or just you? I have to admit, I don't think I'd drive that far for a 5K. But it sounds like a lot of fun.

If it was just me doing it... I would have stayed in town. It is just a 5k so it isn't like it has to be perfect or anything (although I would still like an actual chip time :rotfl:) It is a drive for sure... but it will be fun. :goodvibes

I have complained enough about the lack of chip timing so lets just understand that I feel like this isn't the most accurate.

So officially, this was not a PR for this distance. Since it was a new race though, in my mind, it counts as a personal best in that regard. Steve of course, did PR his 10k!!

Final results...

Me: 56:26 3rd in my division out of 10. 15th female finisher out of 62. 39th overall finisher out of 107. Did I mention there were fast people at this race?

Steve: 10:05:28 2nd in his division out of 3. 32 male finisher out of 45. 67th overall finisher out of 107

And that is my only concern with ordering through Amazon. But it is the exact same shoe so....:confused3

:rotfl2:This is the exact same problem I have as well when I order things from there! I want to touch it and feel it, but can I get over that for saving money? :lmao:

Last year the St. Paddy's day race we did was closer to home. I keep getting registration info sent to me. This year... they are having nutella crepes after the race!!!No way Steve wanted to redo last years event. It was good and yes.. nutella waffles... but also that course and a HILL. A BIG HILL. So that one is out.

Also there is a race right here IN the town I live. I bet the course will be where I currently run. Steve doesn't want to do this race just for that fact alone. This race you get breakfast after. (can you tell I love to eat after I run??? :rotfl:) Also, this is the race I had a very sad Zoe calling me crying saying we HAVE to do this one because EVERYONE is doing it.

So most organized wins. I registered for the one I was planning. I think I may end up getting Kira to take Zoe to the 5k in town. Then everyone gets to be happy.

Congrats on registering and that's great that everyone wins!

i think that's good, you should be proud! Didn't you say that there were a lot of older women that were part of a group doing REALLY well? I mean those are probably the women that are ahead of you because you are 3rd in your division! And Steve, sick and all! Look at that!!! :cheer2:

I hear you!!! With the mad dash sprint to the car last night I think I hit a wrong button on my watch and lost my time. Though I have my time from RK, I know that the watch is more accurate as I'll start RK earlier and later so as to not annoy Jeff with all my "fiddling". And I am pretty sure it was a very good time for me, a PR for that distance so I'd like to know if I am accurate or not. While I can guess (subtracting from RK what I think was the delay before and after based on experience and adjusting the route so I know the miles are right) I would much rather "know" then think I was faster, or slower than I really was.

Or really, it would be nice to know if it was as fast and strong as it felt, darn it I'd like it confirmed. LOL!

:rotfl: I could see having that same dilemma! I know color of shoes can be an odd thing to care about... but when I am thinking race attire, I kinda want my shoes to match.

EXACTLY!

The ones I have are black. LOVE them for winter running, dirty running and boy they hide the dirt. I keep thinking how cute a lighter pair would be for the half but if I start wearing the new kicks in April, they will be pretty non cute by then. :lmao:

Sounds like they are pretty slick!

Amazing!

Man! I can see why Jeff would be concerned. I had my car locked in somewhere once and it was such a pain to get to it!

Oooh he was mad!

:lmao:

But I honestly wasn't sure if we'd agreed not to do this extra part or not. I didn't see him, felt great, kept going. LOL!

Sounds like the cream might be a great solution!

For now anyway, not sure how it will hold up in heat or long time/distance. 8 miles in the rain is a little bit of a different kind of test. LOL!

If it was just me doing it... I would have stayed in town. It is just a 5k so it isn't like it has to be perfect or anything (although I would still like an actual chip time :rotfl:) It is a drive for sure... but it will be fun. :goodvibes

Gotcha! Hit the Brewery for lunch after if they don't give you a real full meal, I hear they've expanded the menu

I get it, there could definitely be some wiggle there with gun/clock versus a chip that may well have made it an overall PR. Very close.

WTG Steve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah... I just like to know. And Runkeeper hasn't ben the most reliable lately either. I have been having to check each run to see if it tracked correctly. I keep trying to tell myself that I don't need to watch it so closely, but I find when I check and see all the corners cut wildly that I feel the need to correct it. I am not sure if it is the rain or a recent update, but it really has been doing such weird things to those corner and thus cutting down my mileage. When I am shooting for 1000 miles this year, every quarter mile counts!!!

Or really, it would be nice to know if it was as fast and strong as it felt, darn it I'd like it confirmed. LOL!

I like that confirmation too. That is why I like those certified races that are chip timed. When it is a certified course you know that a 10k is a true 6.2 miles and if you have a chip you know that your timer doesn't start until the exact moment you cross the mat.

The ones I have are black. LOVE them for winter running, dirty running and boy they hide the dirt. I keep thinking how cute a lighter pair would be for the half but if I start wearing the new kicks in April, they will be pretty non cute by then. :lmao:

At some point we will have to share thoughts on race attire. I think I might have mentioned I am thinking I just am going to wear what I wore at the donald. (I think that makes me boring. but I love the rawthreads tank I have and the sparkle skirt matches it well... so I thought why not get a couple races out of it. But it kinda depends on shoes... my shoes I currently run in worked perfectly. Not many others would have.

Oooh he was mad!

:lmao:

But I honestly wasn't sure if we'd agreed not to do this extra part or not. I didn't see him, felt great, kept going. LOL!

Sorry to hear he was made.. but sometimes... when you are enjoying a run and it feels good.. you just have to keep going. I almost always stick to my plan of where I am running and how far I will go, but I always have enough fuel to get me through a "whim" There have been enough times were I was just running and ended up running farther than I intended.

For now anyway, not sure how it will hold up in heat or long time/distance. * miles in the rain is a little bit of a different kind of test. LOL!

Well, I will keep my fingers crossed it passes all the tests!

Gotcha! Hit the Brewery for lunch after if they don't give you a real full meal, I hear they've expanded the menu

The pub (Finaghty's) is a sponsor and they are apparently hosting some sort of after deal. We may end up there. Brewery might be a good plan too though and we could swing in there on the way to the outlet stores (if I can get Steve to plan for that after the race)

I get it, there could definitely be some wiggle there with gun/clock versus a chip that may well have made it an overall PR. Very close.

I guess it was pretty close. I mean how long do I really think it took me to cross the start? 10 seconds at least...but I doubt more than 20 . Although I did hear some one say something about having already been "going" for like 30 seconds.. but I remember thinking she must have started her watch early. So if the process of me hitting finish, the guy stopping the clock, the gal tearing off my bib tag, handing it to the guy with the computer delayed my "finish" at all - then yes... close.

WTG Steve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. :goodvibes

Congrats on registering and that's great that everyone wins!

thanks

Those older women would not be in my division. Some are ahead of me in gender, but overall I feel pretty good about my place there (top 25%)

As for those older women... let me show you top three in each older division...

I bolded the gal that I was not far from most of the race and then the quarter mile or so just completely lost. Last two sets of numbers are finish time and pace per mile Right after the name is the age of the person. In total, there are not that many older ladies who finished ahead of me. It just seemed like a lot when it was roughly a third of all who finished ahead of me.

Fast runners I tell you!

This DVC game can be frustrating. :rotfl:

Last night I saw that 3 of my 4 waitlisted nights had become available. I woke far too early. Was on the phone exactly at 6am, but by the time I got through to member services it was gone :headache:

I hope that was not a complete fluke and that I can instead have some hope that my waitlist might come through. Seems like availability changes constantly.

I just wish I could have taken care of it myself online last night. However to do that I would have had to cancel one reservation and run the risk of not having it should someone swoop in a snag the one I was going for.

Let me tell you, giving up control like this and waiting on someone else to open in order for me to call is not such an easy thing for me. :rotfl:

When I am shooting for 1000 miles this year, every quarter mile counts!!!

It's never been reliable for me, I check every time. Sometimes it's only 1/4 a mile but I've had it be off by 2+ before. It's not just corners too, it will go wide on a path and if you make it match the path, over the course of a run the mileage can really go down.

I love it when it shows me running into the lake and back. Or the highway.

At some point we will have to share thoughts on race attire. I think I might have mentioned I am thinking I just am going to wear what I wore at the donald. If you like it, are comfortable in it, how can that be boring? And really, who cares if the shoes match, it is a race.

As for me I am not sure. I do have a raw threads tank that goes with one of my pairs of go to shorts. Neither remotely match my shoes but whatever lol.

However while I like it, I don't feel that the raw threads breathes quite as well as other tanks I have that are more of a racer back style. So it's a debate between sorta themed and ultimate comfort. Alternatively I could get a skirt and do that with my favorite tank (maybe getting a new one in a different color) but I'm not really sold on the skirt thing, both from an allergy perspective and a comfort one compared to my normal short so...basically I have NO idea what I will wear. I figure if I don't wear the raw threads tank to run in, I'll likely wear it (or the tee that is the same) to the park afterwards. I did see a sparkle skirt I liked but I have a feeling I won't once I actually "see" it on. I am looking forward to seeing yours. Of course I could always just have a tutu made. Or make one. Not sure how common or that is for the half, versus Princess or Tink though. Nor do I intend to test run with one. LOL! Though I have seen gals in them at races.

I almost always stick to my plan of where I am running and how far I will go, but I always have enough fuel to get me through a "whim" There have been enough times were I was just running and ended up running farther than I intended.

We were running off a huge late birthday lunch so no fuel here, I needed to burn all that off. And yeah, I wanted the extra mile to help do that. I've done that a few times, just kept going.

The pub (Finaghty's) is a sponsor and they are apparently hosting some sort of after deal. We may end up there. Brewery might be a good plan too though and we could swing in there on the way to the outlet stores (if I can get Steve to plan for that after the race)

That's true, do you think they might have your current shoe there?

I guess it was pretty close. I mean how long do I really think it took me to cross the start? 10 seconds at least...but I doubt more than 20 . Yes, unless you were really far back in the start, probably not more than 20 and then maybe 10 at the end. So yeah, could be 30 but likely not more.

This DVC game can be frustrating. :rotfl:

UGH. Very frustrating but it does change constantly. Good you are checking though! The waitlist matching I am told only happens once a day so things can open up and be gone again before the match might happen so checking really helps your chances.

It's never been reliable for me, I check every time. Sometimes it's only 1/4 a mile but I've had it be off by 2+ before. It's not just corners too, it will go wide on a path and if you make it match the path, over the course of a run the mileage can really go down.

That is what I was seeing... and I think why perhaps my pace seemed to be suffering so much more than being ill kinda warranted. Today though, running in the nice day with blue skies above... it was spot on. I went in and checked... so makes me really think the rain had something to do with it. (if that is even possible)

I love it when it shows me running into the lake and back. Or the highway.

That is what clued me in to crazy tracking... when it showed me running like a 3 minute mile because it thought I was running way off into no where.

If you like it, are comfortable in it, how can that be boring? And really, who cares if the shoes match, it is a race.

It was comfy.. but also kinda cute. While I don't go all out and do a full on costume, I do like to try and do something that is themed. Makes the race fun for me...

As for me I am not sure. I do have a raw threads tank that goes with one of my pairs of go to shorts. Neither remotely match my shoes but whatever lol.

Like you said, there is no reason your shoes have to match (unless you want them to) For me it is a happy coincidence if they do... I won't go out and buy a pair just based on "matching" My main goal is to be comfortable.. but like I said I want to have a little fun with it too. :goodvibes

However while I like it, I don't feel that the raw threads breathes quite as well as other tanks I have that are more of a racer back style. So it's a debate between sorta themed and ultimate comfort. On skirts - I love skirts. winter I run with tights under them and in summer I run in them alone. I just feel a little less self conscious in them.

On tutus - they are easy enough to make. I do think enough people wear them at EVERY RD event... so if you wanted to wear one at the DLH, you would not be out of place. I also suspect you have a great body type for them. Me, not so much. I find them to be odd to run in. Everyone is different though..

That's true, do you think they might have your current shoe there?

They don't have an adidas store, do they? I will have to go check on that. I know there is nike.. and that store is always fun.

Yes, unless you were really far back in the start, probably not more than 20 and then maybe 10 at the end. So yeah, could be 30 but likely not more.

I doubt it was even 30. In the end it really doesn't matter. It was a great race and done and over. On to my next one on saturday. :yay:

UGH. Very frustrating but it does change constantly. Good you are checking though! The waitlist matching I am told only happens once a day so things can open up and be gone again before the match might happen so checking really helps your chances.

I kinda wondered if a waitlist match happened right at 6am. It was interesting that the room was there... and then gone. I would still have had to waitlist one night and that would have been a pain to basically split not just between 2 rooms but 3 if it didn't come through.

So frustrating about your waitlist!! I hope it comes through for you.

It will be great if it does! However, if it doesn't I will still be happy. I have learned a little bit in the last year (in great part because Cynthia has been quite patient with all my questions) One thing though is that having a contract where I am happy to stay is important given the times I want to stay (race weekends) OKW is our home currently. I am happy to have that 11 month advantage there because the resort is nice and the rooms are big so what you get for the points is a great value. Our next contract is going to be at BWV though and I will be a bit more picky about the contract search for that one. In buying our first contract I wasn't very picky. I feel like I lucked out in what I was able to get.

Congrats on your race results! Nice job!

Grrrrr to the DVC frustration. Sometimes I think its better not to even look. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :goodvibes

Oh man, look at those ladies! Some of them are close to double your age! Congratulations to them WOW!!!

:rotfl:

It would have been nice, but what about that other night?

Congrats on your race results! Nice job!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Grrrrr to the DVC frustration. Sometimes I think its better not to even look. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :goodvibes

It is frustrating. I could just sit back and not check since it is waitlisted. I kinda have alternated. There are somedays I check and others I don't. I think I should check early in the day rather than late though just in case I need to call MS.

Oh man, look at those ladies! Some of them are close to double your age! Congratulations to them WOW!!!

Well, not exactly double. ;) You are sweet though.

It would have been nice, but what about that other night?

They are all waitlisted still so time will tell.

That is what I was seeing... and I think why perhaps my pace seemed to be suffering so much more than being ill kinda warranted. Today though, running in the nice day with blue skies above... it was spot on. I went in and checked... so makes me really think the rain had something to do with it. (if that is even possible)

It could be, I have no idea. It seems really inconsistent when it is on and when it is off. It's why I turned off the verbal cues, this way I just compare to the watch later. Assuming the watch worked.

It was comfy.. but also kinda cute. While I don't go all out and do a full on costume, I do like to try and do something that is themed. Makes the race fun for me...

Like you said, there is no reason your shoes have to match (unless you want them to) For me it is a happy coincidence if they do... I won't go out and buy a pair just based on "matching" My main goal is to be comfortable.. but like I said I want to have a little fun with it too. :goodvibes

Comfy and cute is perfect. Some outfits do NOT look comfy! I wish I could just go with comfy and cute but my range of comfy is limited.

Too early for me to say on the skirts. I have two, one that has been worn only one time and the other, not yet at all. The one that I did wear....I don't think would be ideal for a long run in hindsight. I went with the panty lined style versus the shorts and while I love the fit and look, on a long run I might end up with chafing. Funny as my running shorts are pretty short but just those 3" of of fabric in the inseam...makes a difference. The other has a full short and I am just not sure how my skin will do.

On the tutu. Maybe. I am SUPER short waisted so things at the waist aren't good. Worn more on the hips, maybe. But I'd feel silly doing a test run and...dunno.

They don't have an adidas store, do they? I will have to go check on that. I know there is nike.. and that store is always fun.

I thought they had both but could be wrong

I kinda wondered if a waitlist match happened right at 6am. It was interesting that the room was there... and then gone. I would still have had to waitlist one night and that would have been a pain to basically split not just between 2 rooms but 3 if it didn't come through.

Could have, I know it is overnight sometime

Hi Ann!! I'm glad I found your new PTR. You're truly an inspiration...wow I can't believe all the races you have under your belt and coming up. I still remember meeting you and Betsy after the ToT 10 miler and you wanted to keep running!!

I will be in WDW with my sister (just the two of us this trip) over Labor Day weekend. I think you'll be in DL at that time? Too bad we will miss each other but I'm sure there will be another year we'll be there at the same time!

Su-Lynn!!! I am so glad you found my tr!

Yep- I have a ton of races planned. Taking one at a time doesn't seem too bad but looking at them all at once not only looks physically daunting but financially as well.

:( I sad I will miss you over Labor Day weekend! Seems like it was a Labor Day weekend trip that caused us to connect on dis in the first place back in 2010..11?? maybe I am wrong.. I am sure there will be another time we have a chance to have our paths cross.

Are you all settled in your new place?

Yes! I believe it was our PTRs over labor day that we first connected! I think it was 2010. Then we finally met in 2012 and again last year! I'm gonna post some pictures on FB tonight from our trip last Oct. I've been to busy to post them before.

We're pretty much settled in! It's gonna take a while before we unpack everything and we're slowing buying more furniture. If you're ever on the North East Coast you should come visit!

I thought it was 2010, but my memory is not exactly perfect. ;) I guess I could have looked at your signature and seen that you were there in 2010... but sigs don't show on the phone and that is what I posted from originally.

So you will be there just a tad earlier this year than you were last, correct? So sad :sad2: I will be down for the ToT race again.... the first part of October.

Congratulations again! That is awesome. If I ever make it up your way, I will be sure to let you know. You should do the same if you make it out west. :goodvibes

I continue to admire you with all of your runs. And how fun that you are doing a trip with Cynthia! :thumbsup2
