Twelve Months of Training and Travel

Running has kept it in remission. The anti inflammatories and natural steroids work way better than any prescription ever could.

That's great! It's a wonder what exercise can do for people and yet most of us never take advantage of it! Or realize it until we have suffered a bit!

I love athlinks  I am not sure everyone would be so enamored. I like to see my stats... I care about such things. I think it is ok that I do, but I also recognize it doesn't have to be something others care about. I also could imagine it wouldn't be as fun to see those stats if you didn't also see your improvement. I started all in the red and now I am in the green. Gives me a good feeling....

I do care that I am getting better! I know I am going to be in all red, but hopefully I can start to move into green! I am thinking that hopefully like Steve my health troubles could start to cut down! I also want to take a look I think that I saw 2 websites I have saved where they show races in your area! I am going to take a look at that tomorrow and set some goals!

Well, they won't. They may try. If they try too close to our dates, yes.. they will get an earful from me. I mean, if they bail completely - I seriously do not need a 2 bedroom for 4 of us! I could use the points in so many other ways. So they need to come or give me at least enough time to change my reservation (like before August) I will be sure to make that point to them. That they have until August to change their minds. After that there is no changing (baring death or illness in the family of course).

:cool1:

Well, even if they end up with plans when we are down south... we will be right on the beach. Steve and the girls can play in the sand while I read and play on dis. We don't need them to be there for that to happen. It just would be nice since we are staying with them for them to be there.

That sounds really nice, you paint a nice picture! I love the beach and just the relaxing noise of the water! Oh that will be a great way to end a Disney trip!

Always try a little first... that is a wise plan! :thumbsup2

yes, I made that mistake when I bought these Greek yogurt bars! I usually like granola bars, but these not so much!

::yes:: while running. I pop the fuel in my mouth as I am running along.

I am just curious, is it like a sucker candy? or a gummy? I know it's not candy, but the way it is... do you suck on it or chew it...

Thanks! I am really hoping. If it doesn't happen though, I will attempt to get into RnR in Vegas. Either way, I am doing a night race that weekend and having a weekend away with Steve!!!

Time alone is always great!

Jumping in here just to say everyone is different. Experiment with what works for you and the only way to know is to try. Me, I do not eat a thing before running unless the run will be after 11am or even noon. But that's me. I generally do not eat breakfast, instead I eat a early lunch. To do otherwise on a run or workout day just throws me entirely off.

I am thinking I am going to try a few different methods like you have both said, and others as well, and then see what works best! I did notice that today I took a good 2 1/2 mile walk and I came back a little later I was very dizzy and shaky, I had a chicken cutlet before hand (with the homemade bread as bread crumbs and seasoning so it was REAL chicken) and when I got back I had a handful of almonds. I am wondering that while I am nursing I should have more when I exercise? I am guessing it's a yes since I felt that way...

I do have coffee. 1 cup only. This is what works for me and while it may not be the "healthiest" according to some, and most nutrition folks might shake their head, it works for me. It's also what I've been doing forever so there is part of that that is a routine I am used to and comfortable with. That being said...when I know I will be out for more than 2 hours total hiking (or back when I cycled a lot), we do snack about half way through and hydrate. I am approaching fueling while running somewhat the same. I've tested raisins, stinger waffles and shot blocks so far. For me I can't say I noticed a difference. but it hasn't been a ton of fuel either. 1/2 a waffle (delish but messy and you need water so that's not practical), about 6 raisins before heading out and then 30 min in, and then 1 shot block 30 min in...that was probably my favorite as I could "savor" it for quite a while. I tried the margarita one :lmao: I have a very low tolerance for sugar and while I wanted the electrolytes I wanted the savory more than the sweeter options out there. As I go further in my distances and am out running for a longer period of time (furthest is about 8.5 for running and a little bit over an hour) I will play around more.

I have a very hard time eating right away afterwards. This is true after any workout. While I know I "should", and I definitely hydrate right away, I typically eat about an hour after and I believe they suggest within 20-30 minutes. Only point being, everyone is different and experimenting is key,

Thank you very much! I am taking notes and I am going to try a few things out. I know that I have to eat something in the morning or I am blah all day! But I will try the other things. I have to also decide when it's best to run. I would like to take the baby or the dog with me sometimes, but not all of the time so I have to see what I can do between my husband's schedule!

I will do an end of the week recap with race highlights after I get back home. soon to be ddil has a dress fitting I am going to. :cool1:

Oh, how exciting the dress fitting!!!! Very happy for your family getting an additional good person added! And I am looking forward to the race recap! By the way, I did start my own PTR, it's in the links below, it's not much yet though!

Heather, I use honeystinger chews. They are gummie in texture and come in a variety of flavors. Some even have caffeine in them. I use to use jelly belly sports beans.... yum and yes, more like a candy. I have read of people using gummie bears... raisins... Basically the goal is something high on the glycemic index. The great thing about the chews or beans is they also have an electrolyte balance (so some salt). I know... sweet and salty and most often fruity may sound odd... but it is weird to me cause when I am out running, they will not at all taste salty. If I try one without activity I can taste the salt.

As for increasing what you eat... breast feeding alone requires more calories than even pregnancy does. So yes... you should eat more ;)

It is hard to believe that the week has come and gone already!

My plans did go a bit astray this week. I had planned (as I always do) 4 runs - monday, tuesday, thursday and then finally saturday. I had planned to cut my miles down a tad, but didn't do such a good job cutting it down by much.

This week - 4 runs, 17.7 miles total with an average pace of 8:46.

Monday went fine. It wasn't as fast as the prior week, but I got it done and it was uneventful.

Tuesday was scheduled, but due to an unexpected deadline with work I had to put in more hours that day. I didn't have time for the extra work as well as a run. So I skipped that day.

Wednesday I decided to make up for tuesday. I had planned to run 4 the previous day and so I was really itching for a good run. So I ended up with 5. It was hard though. Where I live we get pretty gusty winds and this day was one of those days for wind. One section of the trail (about a mile) I was running into the wind. It isn't my favorite thing to do. I figure though it is better than hill training (cause those can hurt my hamstring) and yet that resistance gives me a similar type of work out. It was a bit warm out though and wearing my winter running jacket nearly killed me.

Thursday I was back on track. Got 4 miles in. (went without the running jacket).

I decided after my run on thursday to make a trip to RoadRunner Sports. I had returned my shoes that I purchased (they were a half size too big but the last of the kind I wear that they had... so I tried them and they failed) The store was suppose to track down a pair for me in my size and call me when they came in. I assumed since it had been some time that I had either missed the call or it had been an oversight.

When I got to the store, I found that it had been neither. Basically, since Adidas came out with the 2's they no longer had ANY of the original. :headache: and since they didn't... that is why there was no call.

They did however have the 2's in. I tried them on quickly and since they felt roughly the same... I got them. I did know that there was extra padding in the heel and a wider support bar in the upper. I didn't even check to read reviews. :sad2:

Today was my first day to run in my new shoes. Cardinal sin... running in new shoes at a race... but what could it hurt? They were, after all, the same brand and style... just the newest model. Well, if I had read the reviews... I would have known ahead of time the complaints would apply to me. They are heavier and for whatever reason they make one of my feet overpronate. So they will be going back. Problem is they no longer sell the original. I could get them online direct from Adidas, but since the original is being replaced with the 2, I am only prolonging the inevitable. This happened with another of my favorite shoes. I LOVED the original pureflows and then the 2's came out and :headache:. I am not sure why manufacturers change things up like they do and ruin a really great shoe. Knowing that brooks just came out with a pureflow 3.. I decided to read the reviews of the new one. Looks like brooks listened to the complaints about the 2 and people who loved the first are now really liking the 3. I guess I will be changing my shoe back to the brooks... or at least giving them a try.

So lets talk about that race. Today was a 10k for Steve and I.

I woke before Steve. My goal was to arrive early. However, Steve has been trying to get control of his chrons... and it is really flaring right now. He didn't sleep much so when I woke, he didn't. I tried to not push it because I know how poorly he is feeling. He eventually woke up while I was getting ready. He started to get ready and then decided that he would not be joining me. I kinda expected that based on how he has been feeling all week and how he slept. What I didn't expect was what happened next.......

He changed his mind!!!! :cool1::cool1:

So we packed up our gear and loaded in the car. It isn't a really long drive maybe about 30 - 40 minutes. I was so happy he was with me, but I was very worried and felt really bad - like I had someone "made" him go (even though I know I didn't)

When we arrived we went to the table to check in. We got our bib and noticed something. No chip. :confused3

I could have sworn I read this was a chip timed event. I knew it was USATFA certified. Maybe the promotional material for the event had said timed? In any case, this made me feel a tad frustrated. To me, even though it will be an "official time" It won't be chipped. Why does this matter? Well, the clock starts and everyone goes. If you are at the back of the pack of people (I am guessing there was at least 200 people there) you have to wait until they all cross before you are even at the start... yet your time is going. It was still a 10k race, there were goodies for both before and after and the group looked friendly. I also felt I needed to keep up Steve's spirits . So I decided to act like it didn't bother me that it wasn't chip timed and put a smile on my face and enjoy the event.

I took a picture of Steve

And an attempt at a group selfie

There was a lot of people. I knew this race would. The race a couple years before had approx. 170 in the 10k and 290 in the 5k. So this wasn't as small as the other race I had done in this same town on this same course. I don't know that there was quite that many people today, but there was a lot. They had all of us (including the 5k runners) line up at the start. Knowing that we didn't want to be starting behind too many runners we moved toward the front. I do think that there were at least 50 people ahead of us though... probably more.

Once the race started, the course was congested. It was hard to get around anyone. EVERYONE was moving at about the same pace. So we all kinda moved as one large herd for a while.

Finally, I was able to break free a bit and run at more my pace. I found people to keep pace with and aimed for people to catch up to. The first half of the race was fine for that. I wasn't really being passed, but I was catching up with people ahead of me. Thing is those I was keeping pace with were probably almost old enough to be my mother..if not grandmother. I swear there were so many 70 and 80 year old women just moving along. It was amazing!!! I think they were a part of a running group. They all were not running "together" but they knew each other. They were quite inspirational. I did manage to catch up to one and break free of another... but I just couldn't catch that last one. :rotfl:

There were so many fast runners. I knew there would be. I look at past race results usually to determine where I will sit. I knew that I would not be in the green this race... probably yellow. (although official results are not in yet so I shouldn't claim either one right now) What was great about all these runners is the words of encouragement and hellos as well as occasional high fives (as the course doubled back on itself and people ran by others who where ahead or behind them)

In that first half a gal who was probably younger than me (probably I would guess in her 30's) came up and said hello and stuck with me a while before moving on as we approached the turn around. It was in that second half that I lost most people. The older lady in probably her 70's that I just couldn't catch... I saw the space between us grow each minute until I knew I would never catch her. I assumed it was because I was slowing...but oddly enough, I didn't do what I normally do in races where I will push too hard in the beginning and end up with positive splits rather than negative ones. Instead I pretty much held a constant pace (within a second or two) for the entire race. So these people had done a great job of holding in reserves and had negative splits for sure. What awesome runners!!!

And to further make me realize that these were an awesome set of runners, as the very first ones finished, I saw a few come back onto the course in the last couple miles to run the remainder with someone still on the course. These people had run their own race and pushed hard.. yet still came back to encourage others. AWESOME!!!

When I finished, I believe the clock read 56:20. My personal best 10k was 55:59  So I am not sure what to think about this. I may have actually PR'd... bare minimum it was close. I am not sure how long it took to get across the start. My guess is at least 20 seconds. I guess at the end of the day I will call it a good race with a good time. Could I have pushed more? Probably. However, it was a fun race and given that I knew that the time wouldn't be totally accurate in my mind... I chose to just have a good run.

How did Steve do? Well, when I hit the turn around it wasn't long before I saw him. Honestly, this kinda shocked me. I know I would NOT run very well if I had been as ill as he had and if I had only ran a handful of times in the last 2 months. So assuming he kept his pace going, I knew I couldn't go too far from the finish if I wanted to get a picture of him crossing.

So I waited....

Then just before the last quarter mile I could see someone. That someone stopped and went to the side of the trail. That someone was getting sick. I felt bad for that someone and then realized... ::yes:: you guessed it... it was Steve.

After a quick diversion, he was back to the center of the trail and booking it toward the finish.

I got am so proud of him! What a great time considering all he is going through. AND that is clock time!!! There is no question as to if this was his best 10k because his previous best was much closer to 1:30. I just wish that this could be used as a POT. :sad2: Certified... but not chip timed I don't think it can.

I will post an "official" results once they are in.

Oh, and the shoes and the fact they don't work for me.. did they cause me trouble during the race? Not exactly. Cardinal sin was broken but really didn't cost me much. My knees hurt pretty badly on the outside. (I am going to guess the shoes troubled my IT band) My ankle was feeling tired after the race (which is what clued me in to the over pronation) I looked down to see that each step I took I was rolling in and my ankle was trying to hold itself stable. Feels fine tonight, but I don't want to risk injury to it or make my IT band hate me...so they won't be on my feet again.

I love chewy things (my dentist does not:p) so I may try out these first! Yeah, the combinations sound odd, but why not :cool1:

I did increase how much I eat, I just feel odd eating all of the time! I feel like I am counter productive! But today I am going to take another long walk and take a few dried cherries since I have those on hand and see if eating those during the walk help!

It is hard to believe that the week has come and gone already!

I am sorry about the shoes! It's nice to know though that a company listened to the consumers and tried to fix the kinks, hopefully it works!

You both look good here! And I am glad that he decided to go! I am sure that it's better with a partner for both of you! I think that it sounded like a nice run, not that I know much, but I like the idea of encouraging each other and the fact that they went back for their friends/loved ones/whatever is so nice to hear! Your time isn't that far off, especially because you said you were running in new shoes, right? And Steve, oh my!!! He is awesome :worship: I am not sure that I would have done it sick! And to finish with a great time!!! He's good!

First and foremost...I hope Steve is feeling MUCH better very soon. Major props to him for going to the race and getting a great time! :yay:

That SUCKS about your shoes. I would be so mad! Shoes are such an important part of running...when you find what works and then it CHANGES...ugh!

I hate going to races only to find out that they are not chip-timed! Good job holding in your frustration for your husband's sake. That stinks that you may have had a PR from it. But that is great that you felt like you ran a better race...at least you can focus on that positive aspect of the day. And that's a great time!! Congrats.

Enjoy your Sunday! :goodvibes:

Sorry the race yesterday wasn't chip-timed! That would annoy me too.

Hope your husband feels better.

Hope you can also find some new shoes that worked as well as your old style. Have you tried to find it off amazon?

Well done on the race, Ann! Wow, buying the right shoes seems to be quite the ordeal - hope you get the ones you need and that fit you well.

So brave of Steve to run, when he was not feeling well, and so sorry he had that "pitstop" before getting to the finish. :thumbsup2

How can they call it certified and then not chip it?!?! Argh, I would have been annoyed!

Congrats to Steve, I cannot imagine running super sick or throwing up for that matter!

I really don't know why they had to change the Pureflows. I still have mine, I bought up a few pair when they came out with the 2s. Unfortunately, I started getting an achilles heel bursitis issue with them and I have not been able to find another shoe I love like the PF's!

I am pretty sure you can use USATF certified as POT, even if it wasn't chip timed. That is a great time for both of you and Steve should definitely try to use it! Way to power through for Steve, hopefully it actually helps him feel better, pushing it like that. Ugh on the shoes! I can't believe you have to go through that again. They've changed mine too and while I've not read reviews I went ahead and ordered my version off of amazon while they still had it. Kind of concerns me as if there are issues I am out of luck but also considering buying 2 just as backup. Except they do "age" even if not worn.

Great job on the weekly runs, my mileage took a hit due to the shoulder issue but did at least get in 11.5 plus 2 gym workouts so not horrible all things considered.

Got the new glasses, they absolutely rock but....deathly afraid I am allergic to the nose pads. Hoping to hear from manufacturer on Monday.

I love chewy things (my dentist does not:p) so I may try out these first! Yeah, the combinations sound odd, but why not :cool1:

They are chewy without being something that sticks on your teeth... almost too soft. It makes them hard to put in your pocket.

I did increase how much I eat, I just feel odd eating all of the time! I feel like I am counter productive! But today I am going to take another long walk and take a few dried cherries since I have those on hand and see if eating those during the walk help!

You need more calories... it take A LOT to make that food for your baby girl!! So you shouldn't feel counter productive. :goodvibes

I am sorry about the shoes! It's nice to know though that a company listened to the consumers and tried to fix the kinks, hopefully it works!

I am hoping too. I just have to wait till the end of next week to get up and exchange my shoes.

You both look good here! And I am glad that he decided to go! I am sure that it's better with a partner for both of you!

It definitely is! I have gone to races completely solo before and while it doesn't bother me and I still have a good time, it is far more fun to have someone with you.

I think that it sounded like a nice run, not that I know much, but I like the idea of encouraging each other and the fact that they went back for their friends/loved ones/whatever is so nice to hear!

I think that is why I love running so much. It isn't a sport where anyone looks down on someone else. It is about you in your moment and everyone is happy for YOU at that moment. I mean, there are those who push and win first place and that is important to them... but from what I see, it doesn't make them not care about encouraging you in where you are. There was one gal who was carrying extra weight...to say she was not small would be a bit of an understatement. She was finishing the 5K right about the time that Steve was finishing the 10k. She walked across the finish line and so many people congratulated her. In that moment everyone was happy for her and her accomplishment. It may been different from the person who came across first... but it didn't make it any less commendable. We are all at different places in our journey and so we will never be the same. The team sport player still needs to make that goal or hit that ball in order to succeed. In running, everyone who puts one foot in front of the other succeeds. :thumbsup2

Your time isn't that far off, especially because you said you were running in new shoes, right?

While I can definitely tell my IT band hated those shoes today, during the race I am not sure they really did. I think my time not being faster just had to do with me deciding that I could just run and not worry about the time.

And Steve, oh my!!! He is awesome :worship: I am not sure that I would have done it sick! And to finish with a great time!!! He's good!

I can't tell you how proud I am of him! With his chrons, it makes it hard. If he doesnt run...he will become sicker. However in the midst of a flare he surely can't feel much like running.

First and foremost...I hope Steve is feeling MUCH better very soon. Major props to him for going to the race and getting a great time! :yay:

Thank you! I am really hoping that he can get some relief from his symptoms because of the run he did yesterday. Then maybe he can get another in this week and perhaps he will be able to hope on a better cycle rather than the "no run = more symptoms" cycle he is on.

That SUCKS about your shoes. I would be so mad! Shoes are such an important part of running...when you find what works and then it CHANGES...ugh!

It really does... and this isn't the first time it has happened to me! I really wish they would not change things like they do when they release new versions. :sad2:

I hate going to races only to find out that they are not chip-timed! Good job holding in your frustration for your husband's sake. That stinks that you may have had a PR from it. But that is great that you felt like you ran a better race...at least you can focus on that positive aspect of the day. And that's a great time!! Congrats.

I have never ran a "clock timed" race. It was a new experience for me. And.. while it was/is a tad frustrating, what more can I do about it? I just have to look at the positive... and enjoy what there was to enjoy about this run/race. There was a lot to enjoy!

Enjoy your Sunday! :goodvibes:

You too!

Sorry the race yesterday wasn't chip-timed! That would annoy me too.

Time is not important to everyone - which is fine. If time is irrelevant then there are certainly more aspects to running and participating in events to focus on. For me though, time is how I gauge my progress. So I do find it important. This isn't to say though that I can't adjust my expectation and just have fun with the run. It is just that if I am trying to push myself I need to know how I did at the end of a race. The fact this was not chip timed is disappointing, but not the end of the world. There will be more races in my future. :goodvibes

Hope your husband feels better.

Thanks :goodvibes

Hope you can also find some new shoes that worked as well as your old style. Have you tried to find it off amazon?

The problem with purchasing shoes on amazon is that you can't wear them and exchange. I am a VIP member at Roadrunner so I have 90 days to wear anything and still return. (this includes even clothing) They just want you to get into something that works. It is a great policy because it keeps me loyal. Any good running store though will have a similar policy. I will be trying the brooks pure flow 3 and if that doesn't work... they will go back. If that doesn't... those too. UNTIL I find the next love of my life shoe. Who know... by the time I find that shoe and wear through it the adidas might come out with the 3's and they will then be the new love of my life shoe.

Well done on the race, Ann!

Thanks so much, Karin!

Wow, buying the right shoes seems to be quite the ordeal - hope you get the ones you need and that fit you well.

I think that my 40 something year old self who barely walked a mile at a time in her life let alone ran one has a picky body. I also am not a fan of injury so at the first sign that a shoe is going to cause me to injure myself...they go back. You would think that the store would hate me.. but I don't think it to be the case since I get the occasional hug when I see one of the clerks.

So brave of Steve to run, when he was not feeling well, and so sorry he had that "pitstop" before getting to the finish. :thumbsup2

He was brave! I don't know that I could have been so. Plus the "pitstop" Oh yeah.. I would have been done there and there.

How can they call it certified and then not chip it?!?!

Well, certified just means that USATFA agrees the distance is what it says it is.
Argh, I would have been annoyed!

As I mentioned above, time isn't important to everyone. Not everyone waits to see what their official time is or what their ranking is. I would never be able to cross a finish line and never look to see what my finish time was. Good for those who can.... I am just not one of them. That being said...again, I just had to readjust my expectation and enjoy my run. It was such a great experience overall that the fact that I won't have time that starts and stops when I cross that line is not the end of the world. Would I do it routinely? No, but I still had a good time. :goodvibes

Congrats to Steve, I cannot imagine running super sick or throwing up for that matter!

As horrible as it is, throwing up happens during races. My very first race, I ran the best I could but was very far back... so I didn't see this happen. Steve remembers seeing a gal sprint across the finish. She had an excellent time, but just as she crossed she started to vomit.. while laughing about how she should have trained harder. It isn't like a "ill" vomit... it is just a "pushed too hard vomit" (I know... :crazy2:) My son in the military loses his lunch after almost ever single run.

As for Steve, his illness is chronic so he has to just push past in order to get better. (since the running will help reduce his symptoms)

I really don't know why they had to change the Pureflows. I still have mine, I bought up a few pair when they came out with the 2s. Unfortunately, I started getting an achilles heel bursitis issue with them and I have not been able to find another shoe I love like the PF's!

Well the good news for you is that from what I have read from reviews, the 3's are back to being better. Those who loved the original are now again loving the 3's. It gives me hope that they will work for me.

I am pretty sure you can use USATF certified as POT, even if it wasn't chip timed. That is a great time for both of you and Steve should definitely try to use it!

When registering for the donald, there was wording about races being certified and chip timed and such. I think they were trying to crack down on people lying about their POT. For the ToT this is the wording is very different...

If you believe you will finish The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler in less than 2:00, proof of time is required. Proof of time is not required for the 5K or the runDisney Kids races
Please provide proof of time at the point of registration*. Include:
Name of Race
Year
Distance
Time finished
Proof of time must be provided from a race 10K or longer and must be from a race after July 1, 2012.
If you do not provide proof of time at point of registration but acquire it after you have registered, email the information to disneysports@trackshack.com before July 1, 2014.
No proof of time will be accepted if submitted after July 1, 2014. No corral changes will be made at the expo.
If you do not have a proof of time to submit, list "N/A" at the point of registration.
If proof of time is not provided, you will be placed in the last start corral. If you listed a race result as proof of time when registering online, then you do not have to do anything further.

I don't even see a "must be certified" in there.

Here is what it has for the DLH

New 2014 runDisney proof of time guidelines:

If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon in less than 3:15 hours, proof of time is required for start corral placement. Please reference the Race Pacing Chart below for finish times and associated pacing per mile.
Proof of time must be provided from a certified race, 10K or longer, reflecting results after August 1, 2012.

A valid proof of time provided at the time of registration must include the following*:

Name of Race
Distance
City
State
Date
Finish time

*For example, Tinker Bell Half Marathon, 13.1 Miles, Anaheim, CA, 1/20/2013 – 2:50

If you do not have a proof of time to submit, list "N/A" at the point of registration. If proof of time is not provided by June 1, 2014, data provided is incomplete or cannot be verified, you will be placed in the last start corral. To provide or update your proof of time, you must email all proof of time data requested above to disneysports@trackshack.com. No corral changes will be made after June 1, 2014.

As a reminder, you will no longer be able to bring proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booth during the Expo and have your start corral placement changed.

See how this one includes certified?

Wine and Dine also does not include certified. Yet, the Avengers and the info for the 2015 WDW marathon does. I wonder if since there are less people in each of the fall races in WDW maybe they don't have to be as picky with POT? NONE of them include any wording on chip timed and I am almost certain it did for the WDW marathon this year.

What I do se though is that he should be able to use that at POT just fine! :cool1:

Way to power through for Steve, hopefully it actually helps him feel better, pushing it like that.

Thanks! I hope it does too.

Ugh on shoes is right. I swear I have to go through trial and error once a year. Once when I first started in 2012... then a year later when the shoes I finally found that I loved were "redone" and now again the same thing has happened with the ones I found last year.

I am tempted to order 2 of the boost since I can still get them on line. I just wouldn't have the exchange through RR that I want. And you are right.. they do "age" but studies have shown that two of the exact same shoe rotated will last the same time as 3 not. Something to do with the shoe "recovering" Since my issue has less to do with midsole breaking down and me wearing the tread unevenly... I don't know this would work for me.

Great job on the weekly runs, my mileage took a hit due to the shoulder issue but did at least get in 11.5 plus 2 gym workouts so not horrible all things considered.

Way to power through! maybe a tad hit, but sill impressive that you did it!

Got the new glasses, they absolutely rock but....deathly afraid I am allergic to the nose pads. Hoping to hear from manufacturer on Monday.

Oh no! I hope that you get good news!!!

Oh we have a lot of races that are timed but probably not certified around here. I wasn't sure if he was NEEDING a race that was timed, but if he wasn't, that's great! My husband is actually going to run his first 5K with me this upcoming weekend and I will do MUCH adjusting. First off he is just run/walking 1/1 and is much slower than me, but it's for St. Pats day, it's for fun, and the fact that he wants to do this to do something with me makes me all giddy, I'll go as slow as he needs! :thumbsup2

I've never had problems returning things on Amazon if its thru Amazon rather than the 3rd party merchants but I'm Amazon Prime so I try to be careful about that anyway.

Thats good to know about roadrunner. We may have to start looking into getting somethings then. I never did make it to the running store last weekend so I really need to get there so I can find running shoes I didn't just buy off the shelf (Asics that I wear are light and I enjoy but I could probably find something with a little better support)

I haven't had the love of my life shoe experience at least athletic wise. (I do have some super cute brown ankle boots I love though)

Thank you, Heather.

We have prime too... I wasn't aware you could return shoes that were worn for even once let alone month or more. I will have to consider them then. :thumbsup2

A good fitting is always important if you haven't done that yet. After the first one, it is easier to buy off of a shelf. Roadrunner is a great store... at least in my area. I am happy with their customer service.

:rotfl: I am so cheap when it comes to shoes normally... that I am the opposite. I may like how a particular shoe looks...but how it fits or feels... probably not.

And hugely discounted :thumbsup2

Way to power through! maybe a tad hit, but sill impressive that you did it!

I lost a run...BUT it was also Weds night which as you may recall was UGLY out. Major rain, wind, BLEH.

Oh no! I hope that you get good news!!!

Yeah, me too. I cannot express how much I love the glasses otherwise. I can't tell if I really have an issue, if it's just normal new pressure point redness (which happens often with glasses in generall) or if I'm just being ridiculously paranoid. I am praying they are made of EVA. Which is fine. They reference "foam" rubber so...it is very possible they are ok.

or they are not.

It's a vicious cycle I imagine

It truly is.

Everything I have read is "certified" NOT "chip timed"

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Now I feel a tad silly for not pushing harder. Oh well... at least it is for true a PR for Steve and POT.

And that is my only concern with ordering through Amazon. But it is the exact same shoe so....:confused3

And hugely discounted :thumbsup2

It would be the same shoe. I just feel kinda silly that I didn't order through them in the past thinking that I couldn't wear and then return.

I lost a run...BUT it was also Weds night which as you may recall was UGLY out. Major rain, wind, BLEH.

Wednesday WAS a VERY icky day. That was the day we had the wind here. I never know if you get the same amount of wind that we do though since we get the freak wind storms here that Seattle doesn't get. Sometimes the entire PS region is gusty and other times it is just us.

Yeah, me too. I cannot express how much I love the glasses otherwise. I would imagine you are extra cautious. I kind feel like I am with shoes... But when issues can cause such discomfort it is worth being cautious!!!

I will cross my fingers that they are ok!!!

I have been dragging my feet on registering for next weeks race. I LOVE the RunSnoqualmie races. The promoter does a great job putting them on. They are super well organized. Also, the courses are pretty flat. It is just a long drive.

Last year the St. Paddy's day race we did was closer to home. I keep getting registration info sent to me. This year... they are having nutella crepes after the race!!!No way Steve wanted to redo last years event. It was good and yes.. nutella waffles... but also that course and a HILL. A BIG HILL. So that one is out.

Also there is a race right here IN the town I live. I bet the course will be where I currently run. Steve doesn't want to do this race just for that fact alone. This race you get breakfast after. (can you tell I love to eat after I run??? :rotfl:) Also, this is the race I had a very sad Zoe calling me crying saying we HAVE to do this one because EVERYONE is doing it.

So most organized wins. I registered for the one I was planning. I think I may end up getting Kira to take Zoe to the 5k in town. Then everyone gets to be happy.
