My hope is that HH will have a kid's night out on the evening of our Private Affair. However, if they don't, is there a TV/VCR at the beach house that they can watch? It is held at the beach house, right? Thanks!

The beach house does have a tv and I am 90 % sure they have a VCR. There are also board games in the cupboards and on some of the shelf.

They could also play games in the video game room as long as you are willing to supply them with plenty of quarters.:D

There are many evening children's activities- some even take place at the Beach House- depending on the ages of your children.

There is a TV (and VCR, I think) in the community room at the beach facility.

The Private Affair takes place in Signals now - near the Beach House.

So, is Signals actually in the Beach House? My kids are only 5 and 7 so I wouldn't want them in the Beach House alone if we were in a completely different building.

Hopefully, there will be either a kids night out or like Doc said, evening activities that they can participate in. I guess we will find out when we get there. 17 more days!!

Signals IS at the beach house. The "beach house area" is "U" shaped with the pool being located in the middle of the "U". Signals occupies the farthest end-piece of the left part of the "U" (as you face the ocean). The "community-room" occupies the bottom-piece of the "U", and the arcade occupies the right-side of the "U". Each part has its own entry door, but is a part of the same building. They are closed off from each other, so you could not keep a direct eye on them, but they will be close enough by that you could check in on them depending on how much you trust your 5 and 7 year olds to be alone.

Hi

They had no Kids night out the night of our Private Affair -and there are a lot of distractions over there - and the pool. My kids (4 and 6) went over to the video game arcade - and got stuck unable to open the door...so we were constantly getting up and getting them. It is difficult when all the doors are open to Signals to get them to stay put...And my kids are relatively well-behaved in a normal restaurant. Hopefully you'll have better luck. I had hoped it was in the beach house too. That would have been much easier to handle. It was a good dinner - but I felt very rushed to get done because of the kids.

I am confused. I never have been to HH. What is private affair?
Who would be watching your children while you were there?

Private Affair is a private dinner where the chef prepares a meal just for your party. It's $150 for 1-3 people, and $50/person for 4 or more. It's held at Signals, which is one end of the Beach House building. The tv room is in another section, with is not visible from Signals (you can't keep an eye on your kids if you're inside Signals and they're watching tv). Since the Beach House is open to all guests, it is possible anyone can be wandering through there, and although I'm not generally a nervous parent I don't think it's a good idea to leave a 5 & 7 year old alone in there. Most likely nothing would happen, but why take the risk of an abduction or other problem - or the kids could just plain get into trouble with horseplay of their own and get hurt. There is no childcare center like at the wdw resorts, so the childcare is the responsibility of the parent - not the resort. They may have a babysitting service they could recommend, though, if there's not a structured kids' activity that will cover the entire time of the Private Affair.

We're doing ours on March 18th, but since the only kids with us will be 16 & 17 we don't worry about childcare <g>. We'll just give them money to go out for a pizza or get burgers at Fuddruckers, while the 4 adults enjoy the Private Affair.

We arrive on a Tuesday and our Private Affair is on Friday. I will check the activity sheet first thing. If the kids can have some planned activity that night then fine. If not, I am going to have to cancel our dinner. I am way too paranoid to let our kids roam around in a strange place without us. Not to mention, my son would probably try to sneak out to see the ocean! Hopefully, there will be something to occupy them.

Many guests have also simply taken their children to the dinner and some have brought food for the children, if they are too young to enjoy the gourmet meal. Stop at McDonald's on the way and pick a couple of Happy Meals. Bring a few toys/games and you'll probably all be fine if there are no suitable activities available.

"A Private Affair" is a great experience and you can probably find a way to relax and enjoy!

It would seem that some better planning on Disney's part would allow for children's activities on the night a Private Affair is offerred. At Vero they have two nights of kids activities so the parents can have some time to themselves, do thay have this at HH? Shouldn't this be timed with A Private Affair?

Since "A Private Afair" is offered to only one group each evening it's available it affects very few guests, plus children are welcome.

As already mentioned there are many children's activities available- some even take place at the Beach House. It's just a matter of what's planned for the evening and the ages of the children.

When we were there we met Chef Gordon at a wine tasting program that he hosted, and he told us that he sometimes does Private Affair four or five nights in a week, and that he does not only do the dinners on certain nights, so it would be impossible for them to schedule kids activities on the same nights. We weren't able to do a dinner while we were there, but we're looking forward to it next time. I do remember that there were several kids programs while we were there, but they probably change the schedule at different times of the year. If your dinner doesn't coordinate with a kids night, maybe you could find another babysitter, or even change the date of your dinner? I'm sure a phone call to the resort, or even to Chef Gordon, would help you to figure out all of your options.
