I am looking at buying a tv for my dad for his bedroom for christmas.

Walmart has a 32" for $229
Best Buy has the deal for the day, a 37" for $299

Which size do you think is best?? I have a 42" in my bedroom and to me a 32" just looked so small, but I know it's because I have a larger one. The tv he currently has is a 25" analog! So either way it would be a step up!

This question is impossible to answer with the information you provided. How large is his bedroom? How far is the viewing area from the tv? What tv is best? Who knows? What are the brands and technical specifications?

I think the 32 inch one for your dad would be perfectly fine, perhaps even too big.

To me, the 37 inch would be HUGE in a bedroom.. we have a 37 inch lcd in our living room (main tv watching room), which we just bought last year (replaced a 29 inch old analog type).

But of course, with it being an older house (1930), our rooms aren't the biggest. We have a 19 inch lcd one in our bedroom, and our pillow is probably approx. 12 ft from the TV. I'd eventually like to go up to a bit bigger one in there, but it works for now (bought it for our camper, so during camping weather, we don't have a TV in bedroom)

Are the TVs different qualities? Or are we talking apples to apples?

If they are the same or similar quality, go with the larger, you won't regret it, but you might regret buying smaller.

Another thing to consider is where he will put the tv. Will he need to mount it, or does he have a dresser or chest to set it on? How much wall space does he have?

We have a 26 inch in our bedroom that is perfect for us. It sits on top of our tall chest of drawers. If we would have gotten a 32 inch, we would have had to mount it, which I really did not want to do.

There were some great tv deals in the first few weeks of November last year, so you might want to wait a couple weeks.

Thanks everyone. The tv is not far from his bed at all. I think I will go ahead and order the 32" tv.
I know the difference from the 1080 and 720, and for the bedroom the 720 is fine! That's what I have in my bedroom and the 1080 in the living room and I actually prefer the 720!!

Thanks everyone for your input!!

First, what a wonderful person you are to buy your dad a new tv!

My parents are in their 80's and their eyesight just isn't what is used to be (neither is mine! :rotfl:) so I would opt for a tv that is a decent size for optimal viewing.

Thanks for the info. on tv's, we bought one for our mom about 3 years ago and she already needs a new one. She was burning up the 'tube with her nonstop QVC and HSN viewing!

LOL! Does she watch in the kitchen with david on qvc?? That's the only one that I watch. I love watching him! I really think that is such a good deal on walmart.com. So a 32" it is!!

I was going to suggest the larger if his eyesight isn't great. We good my mom one last year for Christmas and got a 42" so she could see it better. Also LED is brighter?????????????????????? I know nothing about that, but DH researched for a while before we bought it.
