Halloween is coming, lets discuss talking to Dead people!:thumbsup2

I am always amazed when I see these psychics on TV talking to Dead people.

I heard how they were 'debunked", but I never read how this "debunking" operates! The "debunking' process is more mysterious then the psychics are.

I dunno...they seem sorta real too me!:confused3 If not THEY are good at the "mumbo jumbo".

I guess I wont really ever know for sure unless they read me.

Has anybody ever experienced these TV psychics in person????
Does anyone know anyone who has?
What are your thoughts?

:wizard:

hmmmm......

I believe that people have the ability but I don't believe most of the people who claim they have this ability...

make sense?:upsidedow

I have seen John Edwards live. It was truly incredible. If anything, I paid for a very entertaining night.

I went with my SIL about 7 months after my brother died.(her DH) We were hoping for a reading, but didn't get one. As for if he is fake, I have to say, the only way he COULD be fake, is if he has "plants" in the audience. Could be possible, but he read about 15 people that night, are they ALL plants? Some of the info he was coming up with, nobody would know.

Even if JE was fake, the comfort he gives people by what he does supercides that fact. He is extremely entertaining, very, very funny....so if you spent money for one of his seminars, you got a nights worth of entertaining for your money, if you feel he is fake.

I don't know this Lisa Williams.

He is very funny, but more importantly gives so much comfort to those he reads for. He read for parents who lost their child in a motorcycle accident and there is nothing more painful than to see parents grieve for their child. It was heartwrenching and he truly helped them with details no one could know. If he's fake, it would be a great disappointment.

My friend went to see JE a few years ago. She did get a reading and said it was the most incredible thing ever! The night before the JE show, my friend got carded trying to buy wine. At the reading, JE told her that her deceased brother was laughing at her for getting carded  .

I don't know if it is real or not, but she is a true believer....

Though some will think I"m silly, I'm a believer in JE. I've never seen Lisa Williams though.

Didn't anyone else see the South Park episode where they debunked them? :rotfl:

Seriously, if they were truly able to communicate with the dead, they wouldn't have to ASK any questions. They would just convey messages. The questions are used to narrow down information.

I'm in my 50s. He would start by asking me if a family member or friend had died within the year. Do ya think? They're dropping like flies! :scared1:

Family member? Most likely parent, with spouse or sibling being next, then children. Male? If yes, father/father-in-law? No? Quick glance at hand, and companions. If sitting with a male, skip next question, husband, and move on to sibling, then either child or niece/nephew, or grandchild.

And so on, until he/she can narrow it down.

And yes, I definitely believe they have plants who listen to conversations of people waiting in line, in rest rooms, etc. (I've never been to his show, but did run into a plant at a magic show this way. I saw her come in about an hour into the show, and sit at the bar as I was exiting the bathroom, so she didn't see me. She was the person he "read" about 30 minutes later.)

BTW, if your card gives your age (which it probably does) and you look much younger than 21, there is a more than likely chance that you've been carded recently.

There are professional gamblers who can read other players "tells" with uncanny accuracy, and I believe that these psychics are the same. The average person has unconcious physical reactions to questions, statements, and information, and, IMO, John Edwards is very, very good at reading them.

That was the funny part...she looks well over 21! Like I said, I don't think that these people are communicating with the dead, but it certainly made my friend feel better. She will tell you with pure conviction that there is NO way JE would have known about the carding incident the night before. I am, however, not convinced...

I have heard JE is definatly not doing what he claims and has an extensive team of researchers and such that help him get info on the people he reads, is that true? I dont know, if it brings people comfort and peace than more power to him, hes doing those folks a service and that is great.

Lisa williams however, well she just seems downright scarey good, I had read or seen somewhere her grandmother was one of the royal families personal medium as well.

I would like to believe

Oh after williams on friday nights they have a psycic challenge show, thats pretty cool if you like stuff like this

I dont believe in that stuff, but I like to watch :confused3

My great aunt was psychic, so even in a family that's skeptical about EVERYTHING we always believed there were such people. I always assume that people making money off it are NOT real, however.

I've seen John Edwards in person, and he's amazing. I truly believe that he has the gift, and I'd love to get a personal reading for my father done by him. If he is a fraud, he sure is a convincing one. He knew things at the show that there is no possible way people would have been able to dig up - without filling out an extensive memoir style biography. I think unless you've seen him in person it can be hard to believe what he does is for real.

I'm a believer, though I don't believe that all who claim to have this gift actually have it.

I haven't made up my mind either way..................

But don't you think if JE has 15 or so people planted in the audience each night, surely one of them would eventually rat him out? And I'm sure if he uses planted people, he can't use the same people over and over.........so that's even more people he has to use as "plants". That's even more people with the potential to rat him out. And even if the "plants" didn't talk, surely they have friends/family who know what they do for a living........and they might tell a friend......who might tell a friend........who might tell Inside Edition.

I'm just playing devils advocate here.

For those of you who dont know who Lisa Williams is....She is in her 2nd season on Lifetime Network. Her show is on Friday nights, and they are all ON Demand too.

She is from the UK, lives in California. VERY DOWN TO EARTH personality. Almost as if she can be your next door neighbor. She is very similar to John Edwards, only she does more 1 on 1. Too me she looks like Liza Minnelli. And she has too wear her hat when she dont want people from beyond talking to her.

OK -- not JE or LW related, but here's my psychic story. There was only one part that was "right on target" and was predicted before it even happened which kind of makes me go "hmmmmm.....". My friend dragged me out to Lily Dale which is a psychic community in our area. She had a reading and so did I. The psychic told me that she saw me with a veil but I wasn't marrying the first person who asked me. I was like "Yeah, whatever!" Well, about 3 yrs. later, I got engaged. After 6 months, the guy called the wedding off. I dated and a few years later I met DH and he proposed. We got married and, at our wedding, my friend said "Guess that psychic was right about one thing!" I was like "Huh?" She had remembered what they psychic told me about not marrying the first man that asks me! I had totally forgotten about it until she mentioned it.

Was it "written in the stars"? A lucky guess? I don't know. :confused3 Just something that does make me wonder as it was predicted before it happened. And, as I said, I didn't break off the engagement to make it happen -- the guy did. And, he had no idea what the psychic said b/c I had forgotten all about it by that point!!!!

I saw my first episode of Lisa Williams last Friday (missed it last night) and I must say that I found myself believing her a little bit. (I am much more susceptible to this stuff in October) She is scarily good if it is not fake.

It put a bit of a ding in the concepts of heaven and hell for me though. On the episode I saw, she 'communicated' with one's 4 year old, and on another person, a sadistic child-abusing mom and grandmom combo, as well as others along the spectrum of "good" and "bad". The person whose mom and grandmom were communicating wasn't even looking to speak to them, she wanted a reading of her brother, and from the look on her face and what she said, those women should be turning on a slow spit far below. And how could a 4 yr old not ascend immediately? So does everyone just hang around after? (I am not getting naked again ;) who knows who's watching)

I'm a big fan of Lisa. Would love to meet her. I watch her new show every Friday now. As far as John Edwards embarrased to say never heard of him. Will have to look in to it. I also believe there are SOME people who can communicate with the dead. I truely believe Lisa can.

Years ago, before John Edwards had any tv shows, he used to be a guest on the Scott and Todd Morning Show, 95.5 PLJ in NYC.

I remember being so fascinated by him, and the DJs were trying to figure out how he did it.

They had him on as a guest several times, and those were always my favorite spots.

I also remember that on WPJL in NY - they will still have a contest at times where you can win tickets and they have a JE get together.

He would amaze me when I listen to him on the radio.
