Turtle Talk question

We're considering doing a gender reveal on our upcoming family cruise by way of Crush. Or at least attempting it.

My question is this: Does anyone know if they tend to seat younger children or first timers around the perimeter to actually interact?

I know that we were seated there the first time or two, but last time we were at an interior table. We're a party of ten, everyone 13 and older this year aside from a two year old. I never really paid attention as to whether that was the norm.

We were seated right under one of the screens at a table with 3 adult couples, no children. Two other tables near us had children. None of us were first timers.

We figured he wouldn't talk to us because we were adults but he did. He wanted to know where we were from. When we said Canada he went on and on about cold and snow. It was quite funny. I don't think that they discriminate particularly and Crush will talk to anyone who will respond. If you don't respond, he tends to move on and find someone else who does.

We both love Crush!! Does he only appear on the first night? I don't want us to miss it. He does appear on the Fantasy ship?

The Crush show is in Animator's Palate the first time you dine there on a 7 night cruise. On the Fantasy.

Thank you so much! I'm such a kid at heart about this!! Can we request a table to talk to him?

You certainly can call DCL and have the request for a table near one of the screens in Animator's. No guarantee it will be granted, but you can ask.

Crush looks for people who are interacting so if you're engaged in the show and doing the things he asks everyone to do you have a much better chance. (I know because he talked to me on our last cruise. It made it a whole new and "totally awesome" experience "dude"!)

Great! Do we just talk to the head waiter at Animator's when we embark, or should we wait until the day of if it's not the first in our rotation?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking if you should talk to the head server about your table seating? No, that's handled before you even get on the ship.

The first time you are in Animator's (regardless if it's night 1 or night 3) is when you'll see the Crush show.

Oh, no, to see if we can arrange for Crush to do the gender reveal or if we should have other arrangements. Have an inside man.

Oh, I'm not sure the head server has a say in what/who Crush talks to, but you certainly can ask once onboard. Try going to where the dining changes are handled and see if they can direct you who to talk to and where that would be. Or if it's even do-able.

I would guess, just from my experience in shore-side entertainment, that they will most likely not agree to having a character participate. Disney characters aren't allowed to be involved in any personal announcements, such as proposals, or other situations where someone could potentially react negatively. (Check out YouTube for surprise Disney proposals and watch the characters try to tactfully remove themselves from the vicinity.)

I would contact DCL and ask about options, even if they can't involve Crush, they probably have some cute alternatives.

You need to talk to the cruise director. If crush can't do it. See if you can get a performer to do it. I seen one time a guy asked a lady to marry him. The performer needed a volunteer and he picked this lady. She didn't know her boyfriend had it set up so she will be picked. TALK TO THE CRUISE DIRECTOR TO GET IT DONE.

Since you're on the Fantasy, perhaps you could use the Animation Magic show to do your gender reveal instead? I can't remember if they let you put words on the character itself, but perhaps you could put the appropriate gender symbol on the character's shirt to be subtle. Or, since they do have you sign your work, sign it as Itsa Boy/Itsa Girl?

Part of the inspiration came from a Turtle Talk at the park where he called a couple up and had them close their eyes so the guy could get down on one knee to propose. That had to have been orchestrated beforehand.

I'll see if I can find a way to talk to him (her?). The problem is that we have such a large party, I don't know that we'd be able to wrangle them all to go to a show at the same time.

You can't use words because they flip the drawings sometimes. I could sign it that way, but I'm afraid if we wait so long to reveal, one of us will slip up and say 'he' or 'she' when talking.

Interesting! Maybe the rules are different at Sea? They used to all follow the same guidelines, but admittedly it's been a couple years since I worked in the department.

I would definitely call DCL ahead of time. The more time they have to prep, the more time they have to make magic!

Or, completely unrelated to dinner... but if you are boarding together, what about asking the crew to announce it as you board? "The Smith family and their future Baby Girl?" or something similar?

There is no guarantee you will or will not get a table near Crush or that he will talk to you, so if you want to do something like that, I would just plan it on your own.

(Also, if you are finding out the sex of your baby at your 20 week ultrasound, keep in mind that you need to sail before 24 weeks because of the restrictions in place. I am assuming you already know this but figured it was worth mentioning just in case!)

Oh, I am all over that, haha. We literally -just- found out before I did this post and sail in less than two weeks. Cutting it close!

Genius! That way we can get it out of the way before we accidentally blab. I'll suggest it to my husband.

It sounds as if restaurants are crowded...what is the noise level like? I'm imagining my daughter having a hard time hearing Crush because of background noise.
