Cast of Characters:
Me: :woohoo: Disney lover, family vacation planner, Mother, Wife, had a wild streak as a teenager (who hasn’t) but managed to make life all better as I learn from my mistakes. When asking my DS who I am most like he says “Nala” when I ask why he tells me “because she is so loving, and a good mom” awwwwww, melt my heart I tell ya! I will just use my name however as my screen name give it away lol

DH: :smokin:Runs a tight ship. Part time handyman, rest of time Super Dad!! (I refuse to call him Mr. Mom, because he is so much more) Keeps my kids in line and behaving because I am a sucker for my kids and they need the discipline now and then. Loves listening to music very loud… not a morning person… For this and any TR I do he will be known as “Grumpy” (His favorite character, which suits him well in the morning)

DS 11::joker: My preteen and showing every minute of it!! Always Right, won’t even admit when it’s been proven that he isn’t. Video game addict, Toy Story and Stitch addict. Does things sometimes that make you sit there and go “What the heck was he thinking??” For this TR he has chosen to be called “Dopey” (His choice, not mine. Mostly so he and daddy could wear shirts that say “I’m with…”).

DD 2: princess: Our Princess and she doesn’t hesitate to let you know it either. She loves attracting attention, good or bad. Cute as a button but watch out, if she gets mad… whoa baby!! Stubborn as can be, but she can’t be fully to blame for that one, both DH and I are too.. To me... she is my dream… a little girl..., who loves all things girly, someone to pass down my Barbies to and give all my old cabbage patch dolls and dress up and play tea party… plus she likes to go outside and play catch or whatnot with the boys too. For this report she will be known as “Ariel” (suits her well, the whole family agrees) Favorite Princess is “LA!!! (Cinderella... but she’s to stubborn to learn the whole thing)

DS 6months: :wizard: Our surprise baby that we didn’t know was on his way on our trip last year, until just before we got home. We still like to call him our “souvenir” because he was our Disney Vacation Surprise… who cares if he was already on his way before vacation, we didn’t know it. He is the cutest baby (not that I am partial or anything) and is a barrel of smiles, wants to stand and walk already and loves to jabber. He joined us 5 weeks before he was supposed to so he had to stay in NICU for 10 days. For this trip report I am going to call him “Lucky”, because both he and the puppy on 101 needed a bit of help in their first moments. Once he starts talking we’ll see if that changes or not, as he will always be my inspiration… so tiny and fought to get the heck out of the NICU and home to us.

Backstory:
Didn’t think we’d be able to go back to WDW for a few years but when doing budget realized we could afford to go in December… then free dining was announced and realized we could save over 1000 dollars by going then because flights would be cheaper too. Decide we should do 8days/7nights and emailed MFL Travel to see if they could find anything cheaper or just take over my booking so I didn’t have to call Disney every other minute to find out this or that (come to figure I would call Dining…every other minute anyways because I am such a control freak that I MUST BE the one to get all that set up). So here we are… going to WDW for my birthday… saving a ton of money!! ! YAY!!

2 days later…. DH and I are talking about how he REALLY REALLY hates flying… So at work that day I decide I will strike a bargain… 2 more days/nights and we’ll drive. I call him on my lunch and he agrees.. .YIPEEE!! 10 days 9 nights!!! … But wait!!! There’s more… he wants to go to the beach one day. Honey, we should just add on a night to the stay and do a beach day in the middle… OK. I email MFL again and add on the extra day… so finally we are at 11 days/ 10 nights… all but 1 in WDW!! YAHOO!! And still everything is in our budget plan for 3000 or less.

Now I am off… Got my Tour Guide Mike Subscription and found Dis for the 1st time, checked up on my old favorites, All Ears, Intercot, Mousesavers, and The Mouse for Less… and start researching where we should eat, when, why, what characters we will see… boy oh boy … I have a lot of work to do!!! :surfweb:

Up Next… Telling the kids!! :cheer2: :cool1:

Can't wait to hear more!

I also changed our December trip to September because of the free dining - and I'm pulling 2 high school juniors out of school the SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES! (And before anyone gets upset by this, one of them isn't mine and her mother said it was alright - you can flame HER!)

I have had my pre-trip report ready for WEEKS, but figured I'd better wait to post it - well, you've inspired me and it's going up soon! (It's on my laptop which decided Friday that it didn't WANT to connect to the Internet anymore, so I get to figure out THAT mystery first!)

Yay!!! Happy (late) Birthdayyyyyy! I think this is going to be a great one! Cant wait to read more!
Dont you love the free dining?
I want to know if it's really cheaper to drive rather than fly. For us,no. Suburbans suck alot of gas and I think my kids wouldnt make it to FL. alive....thus putting a bit of a damper on the magic.

ooops, sorry....
didnt mean to clutter your thread!!!! :confused3

sounds like it will be a great trip! I love it when you can keep adding days to a trip to make it longer!

Not late yet... will turn 30 the day we leave... 2 weeks from now!!! YAY!!

We have gone several times, both flying and driving and we have found that driving was the cheapest, even with a Ford F-150 4 wheel drive. We only had to fill up twice, maybe three times, down and back, which was about 300. round trip. So, if you figure four tickets, (2 adult and 2 kid) for airfare times @ 150. each, its still cheaper, plus you have the freedom to go outside of wdw resort if you choose. We have driven from Virginia and Connecticut and for us, its still cheaper. Although, if you through in the supplies for a bennedryl cocktail to subdue the kids and and all the prozac and earplugs for parents to deal with the kids, ya might just break even LOL!!! just kidding folks!!!
Even if you add in the hotel stop down and back it works out better. Besides, I would rather be in a car with the kids and have them annoy us, rather than in a plane and have the opportunity to annoy 100 or so other people, plus I am not crazy about lugging them through the airport and worrying about lay overs, etc. Okay, what started off as being a simple reply to your post turned out to be sooooo long whinded and I appoligize.......Good luck on your trip!!!

for us... we save about 200 by driving... right now airfares going down ... may change to flying... we'll see

It's a hard decision to make about flying or driving. Good luck with your decision.

Pretrip Part II
So now we are finally booked for our 11 day stay at Pop Century (did I even mention the hotel in part I?) and have gotten all but 1 ADR exactly as we wanted them. We could only get LeCellier for 8:30pm  , which to us is late for dinner, but we’ll deal. We realize since the days have been added we need to add more… but that decision will come later, gotta tell the kids 1st.

Plan was to tell them on Dopey’s birthday in July... but I just could not wait that long… :rolleyes1 so Grumpy and I talked and decided it’d be ok to tell them on Easter, with some one ground rules… DS could only ask 1 question about the trip per day, and must write both question and answer down on the sheets I provide for him. We had 2 weeks till Easter so I prepared a Trip Journal for him and filled out the information we knew for sure we would be doing (ADR’s, Parks, Hotel info) along with some fun stuff in the end for him to do and 2 pages with 56 lines each for him to do his questions on, since Easter was 112 days from departure day :surfweb: . The Friday before Easter I hustled over to the Disney Store nearby and picked him up some Disney Dollars to put in his basket instead of a stuffed animal (he’s too old for stuffed animals *not so much*). :bounce:

Easter Arrives

Due to the fact I work weekends Grumpy and I decided to do baskets when I got home from work (plus the fact that they were with me at work). When I got home we took Dopey, Ariel and Lucky out to the back patio to do their baskets. We gave Lucky his first… simple toys as he is too little for much more. Next we gave Ariel her, candy little chick that chirps and a cube w/ Cinderella in it. Finally it was time to let Dopey do his basket. I had Grumpy hand him the basket while I held the camera in anticipation of his reaction to the Disney dollars and what they meant. :confused3 To my shock he looked at it, read what they say on the back about where you can spend them and then looked at me in total confusion. I then handed him his Trip Journal and he looked at me like “mom why are you giving me something I have already used?” I told him to read the cover very carefully. He read aloud “Our 2006 Vacation, August 15-25 2006 at Walt Disney World” and finally he realized what is going on… :woohoo: “We are going back!!!!” he says and we tell him yes and give him some of the details. I tell him to read his Trip Journal as it will tell him most of what he initially wants to know. He sits there and reads everything allowed and as he is reading Day 1 he looks up and says “we’re eating with the characters too??!!” We tell him yes, them and some other places too… “So are we eating in the castle this time?” “Yup” and he is completely over the moon. See typically when we go to DL or WDW we don’t eat in the parks. We go out and grab some fast food and go back in, so we can save for the cool stuff.. .souvenirs. As he reads each page I go thru and explain the meals and what they will be like and tell him he gets to help us pick the last few…

In the following weeks I go over menus for the places that seem really cool. We have 2 more places to choose since we decided to do OOP for CRT. I give him and his father the choice and I must say they did well… WCC and Prime Time, for our non character places… :dance3:

Here's what we have so far (if anyone thinks I should move times let me know... any opinions are welcome on the ADR's)

8-15: 5:10pm at Chef Mickeys
8-16: 10:20am at PSB at Akerhaus (want a late one since not sure how we'll do after driving and MK)
8-17: 7:50am at Ohana's and 6:10pm at PTC
8-18: CRT at 8:15am
8-19: Liberty Tree Tavern 5:30pm
8-20: 1900 Park Fare 4:50pm
8-21: WCC at 8:30pm (this is our beach day so we figure it'll give us plenty of time to get back and to WCC)
8-22: Fantasmic package Mama Melrose 5pm
8-23: LeCellier 8:30pm
8-25: Crystal Palace 8:10am

Each day for about 2 weeks he asks his question and it’s all great… then he just stops. I guess that’s only because the info that I offered the information he wondered without him having to ask… yes I am obsessed… no I am not ashamed… WDW for my Birthday… Can’t beat that! :cheer2: :cool1:

Now the fun part... Details, organizing, park tour planning, organizing the cs places to try, hints people give us... Needless to say I have a 2 inch notebook FULL of stuff to help us out plus a small, quick reference binded thingy (smaller than a spiral notebook) that I can take to parks without using a ton of space.

I posted my stuff on DIS, made some new friends :grouphug: hoping to meet some while we are down there as there are tons of people going the same time as we are. Went to home depot 2 or 3 times to get our LGMHPC :bounce: , Went to target when they had all the lime green stuff and loaded up on anything we could use on trip (especially the ponchos). Went to the Disney store when they had a ton of shirts for 2.49 :woohoo: and picked up 2 matching sets for Grumpy and Dopey plus a few cute ones for Ariel.

I had Grumpy email the travel agent to organize any birthday stuff he wanted to do since we agreed we'd do a celebration there rather than in the car on the way down :rotfl: (I sure wasn't going to plan my own birthday). From what I know that is all done... or so he said... we'll see how he did later I guess :goodvibes

Now all I have left is to do the T-shirts... got each of us 5 to do so the rest of the time it's our own choices on what to wear.. so we get 3-4 days of whatever we want to wear.. plus the beach day. Oh yeah... we must pack too... :rotfl2: that'll be in about a week... I am not a last minute packer but I am also not a 2 months before one either... I figure a week before will do that way we don't pack something that will just get unpacked.

:hourglass

Up next… Packing, Packing and more packing… The final pretrip installment… will do the day we leave (while I am stuck at work waiting to be off so we can hit the road) :cloud9:

I will add a few pictures later today or on my weekend (tomorrow and wednesday).

Thank you all so much for you responses… I only hope to one day even become a shadow of my predecessors… my favorites the Happyhaunts, ZZub, and timandleslie, fixer, UTAHMAMA, nataliz, MouseEarsJenny (to name a few, I really love all of the ones I have read a lot!!). Getting ready to start on Twinkiemama's... working my way thru slowly but surely.

Decided today that we are FOR SURE going to drive... :car:

Good Morning,

When I read your countdown and saw that you were driving from Colorado, I thought, How Cool!!! :cool1:
We have driven from Massachusetts 4 times with our fifth trip coming up in April. :moped: My dh and I enjoy flying but when we open up the trip to include all 5 of our kids, driving is the only option. We enjoy seeing the sites like the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, South of the Boarder in S.C. and the boys enjoy finding all the sports stadiums along the way. We also play the license plate game and Colorado is one that we usually have a hard time finding!!!

Enjoy you trip, We are flying this time but it is just the two of us

Heidi and Bob

Thanks for the reply heidi... Keep your eyes out while you are on teh busses at WDW... you just may see us :thumbsup2

Have a great trip!!

So how did all the packing go... ok I guess...I got all the family shirts made and Ironed on last weekend and put into a bag (sort of). The family has alot of stuff to pack while I am at work today but it's mostly odds and ends... I got 95% of cloting packed... just the toiletries and other stuff we use daily...

:moped: Drive to Disneyworld :drive:

Just a quick post regarding the drive to Disneyworld… which took 28 hours. For the most part it was pretty uneventful. However, a few things did happen that I must mention, Our drive the first night through Kansas was filled with rain so we had to go a bit slower than we had hoped, but on the other hand it was one of the most beautiful rain storms I have seen in a very long time. The next morning as we were driving Lucky decided to become a spewing machine  just as we were getting ready to get back on the highway making it so we had to smell baby spit up for over half of the drive, we stopped, cleaned him up and got back on the rode. Later that afternoon Ariel, she decided to stink up the place with her diaper **shudder*** so we had to make another stop to get her cleaned up and try and air out the van before we got back on the road. We stopped at rest stops during night and took naps here and there throughout the day. DH did most of driving, by his own choice, I was mostly the early morning driver, which was great because that made me the lucky one who got to drive onto property :-D It was amazing to see the signs again and Pop Century was all I had dreamed it would be. The signs they show on the websites don’t even do it justice.

We arrived at Pop at 8:15 am and checked in to the resort…could have got a room right away but we wanted fireworks view so decided to wait… must I say “BIG MISTAKE”. But oh well, too late now. We didn’t even end up with a fireworks view, and even if we had gotten a room with a view we wouldn’t have seen any as we were never at the hotel during fireworks times. The food court was awesome as was the shop attached to it! After we checked in went over to the bus stop to get to MK in time to beat the early morning crowds. :Pinkbounc

More to come on Day 1 of trip report as I didn’t start counting the days until we arrived…

Cant wait till you start your trip report - we're staying at POP and I want to know all about it. Your ADR's look great cant wait to hear all about it .. COME ON !!
