Yummy treat! (I did not read any of this thread but the OP question, if there is anything bad about the turkey legs I don't want to know). FL without a Turkey legs would be like FL without Dole Whip
The turkey legs, to me, in concept and aroma, are great. However, I have to agree with the pp's referring to it as canadian bacon. I mean, it was ham. Wasnt it? The whole family choked one down a few weeks ago, and it wasnt all that great to me. Besides, WHAT TURKEY did that COME from? Turkesaurus Rex? Must be full of hormones as well..
I have no opinion, since I haven't tried it. However, while at the NY State Fair my friend bought a turkey leg. It was as big as her face, and well, she didn't finish it...
We only tried it once -- the one we had was not tender and really hard to eat. Plus it's alot of meat and nothing else! Maybe there are better ones out there (softer, easier to eat), but for us once was enough!
They used to gross me out, but DS got me to try one last year and I have been hooked ever since! I try to pull the meat off with my fingers so I don't look so crazy walking around gnawing on it.
I have posted this before but on a Magical gathering trip 3 out of ten of us got the turkey legs one afternoon and spent 3 days - deathly sick- in hotel rooms so so so with food poisening! It was awful for my sister and brother in law who did not get it but both daughters did and my mom as she took care of my father who joined his granddaughters in their carneverous snack- gross!!! Lots of wasted vacation and money and three very sick people all for a turkey leg!
I tried a bite of my dad's years ago...15 years, maybe? I seem to remember thinking it was pretty good, but I was also 13 and lots of stuff from that age is a blur!
Anyway, I have not tried one since, though every trip I say that this is the one where I'll get one. They smell delicious...but I'm so afraid of not liking it, and I hate to waste. I think the little girl in me is waiting to be able to return with my father...because I know that if I don't like it, he'll gladly oblige. Isn't that what dads are for!!??!!
It took me about 8 visits to WDW to try one. The first bite tasted great, but it made me a little nauseous after a little bit. Of course that was right after going on Tower of Terror. DH liked it a lot and would have one again. I'm satisfied to say I tried it once.
We could not believe that people were eating those things.
It's still makes us laugh when anyone brings up the subject of the guy eating one of them behind us at Fantasmic. My DS took a picture of someone eating one at DHS and it makes him laugh every time he looks at it.
It became a running joke all week..."Dad are you going to get one of those turkey legs for lunch today?"
I vote Yummy. For the 210 votes that say yuck, You all can buy me one and I will eat all 210 of them.I Love smoked foods and these things are good.Like many poster have said they taste like ham.So If ya like ham I say give em a try.
