Turkey Day Gang 2009

I can't believe this.... I found the mother load :cool1: . I thought I was the only one who booked so far in advance. My DH, DD, DFIL and I booked this cruise last week and are so excited as this is our first Disney Cruise. I sure am excited to get to know everyone and hear all of your advice and knowledge :worship: :worship: :worship: . We will be the ones who look totally tourist I'm sure. Anyway, glad to meet you all.

You'll fit right in. All Disney cruisers look like tourists!!:rotfl:

I think I started this thread before we all got off the boat last November to get the proverbial head start...Seriously, many of the people posting here were together in 2007 and some others were part of the Turkey Day Gand in 2004 and/or 2005.

Welcome! We're first-timers as well.

thank you for all of your warm welcomes. We are just so excited. I believe they said we will be in 7510. Anyone know if this is a good choice? They asked us when we booked where we would like to be but I do not know the first thing about cruising so I have no idea so I asked them to put us where they thought was the best available.

Also, do they do anything special on the ship for Turkey Day? I would love to have a Disney Turkey Leg on Turkey Day. :cloud9:

So many questions, so little time   and To All of your Moms, I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Thursday is generally lobster night, but they do offer turkey that week, and there have been quite a few people who have been known to offer both...just cannot recall where the link to a past Turkey Day Gang cruise is right now to post that one.

Chuck:cool1:

Icemanpad - thanks for your info. I would...(I suppose)... settle for a lobster tail. OMG.. This is so much fun and so much to look forward to. I hope I can stay in my skin for the next 18 months. How do you guys do it?

Turkey...yuck! Sorry, but I can't be "thankful" for turkey. Lobster is definitely up my alley and is the reason I took the '07 turkey day cruise to start with...I didn't want to have to cook a dumb turkey for the inlaws and outlaws (i.e., my family).

So, Ick33, welcome aboard...glad you can join us. We're a fun group and hope you'll have tons of fun. As to how we stand it for the next 18 months...we don't! We just whine alot on the boards and plan for our next disney fix!

HELLO ALLLLLLLL

WELCOME ICK33!!!!

I think another way we get through this all is coming here and talking to our new found friends and planning. I am having my vows renewed on the island so I am actually PLANNING a wedding to boot - so that is excitement. We come here and post to each other and then go to the main page and read there and then the trip reports - lots of fun to do...

We are doing Animal Kingdom first for 4 days so I am spending my time researching that too - so far we have a quote for about 2000 for 4 of us - two hopper day passes and a bunk bed savannah view room... of course it is too far to book out but that is ok - I love to plan plan plan!

Hey Lisa. I'm being nosey. How many nights are you staying pre-cruise? If you call Disney directly, you can usually get a AAA rate (but you have to specifially ask - they won't volunteer that its offered). If you buy your hoppers from www.mapleleaftickets.com, its cheaper than WDW's. I find that doing it this way is cheaper than the package pricing. Good luck!

I'm not sure if they're booking Nov 2009 now or not?? Probably are, but not sure if their AAA rates are out yet. To get an idea, just look at this year's rates and deduct 10%. I also bought tickets once on e-bay. Good luck!

Undercover tourist has great ticket prices. And if you sign up for the newsletter from Mousesavers.com you can get a little better price. The price includes shipping, so keep that in mind when comparing sites.

Also, on the touring plans website (website name is touringplans - disboards blocks the full website name here when I attempt to type it), they have a tool where if you input your plans, they will tell you the best combination of tickets and where to get them the cheapest. For some areas of their website, you must have purchased their book in order to access - not sure about this tool though. They also have a tool that tells you which parks to avoid on which days due to crowd issues - interesting reading.

Lisa,

A wedding on the island. Wow, Congratulations. That is big fun, and how romantic. My husband and I were married in St Thomas and it was beautiful. Hope to revisit Blackbeards when we are on this cruise. It will be 10 years for us :lovestruc

Karen,

You had me :rotfl: at you cooking a turkey for your inlaws and outlaws..:rotfl: That is pretty funny, never heard that before.

We will be visiting Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party the first week of December and I am trying to plan that trip as well. Anyone ever been to that? I cannot wait to see the holiday parade.

Elsie

Hi Elise,

Glad to give you a chuckle...yes, I do call them the inlaws and outlaws (and to their face :thumbsup2). Most people say that I'm a good cook and it's something that I enjoy. But I hate turkey...can't stomach the stuff. I've cooked Thanksgiving a few times...my first time was a DISASTER...I didn't know you had to remove the "stuff" that came inside the bird! I figured if it was in there it was part of the turkey. Needless to say, the bird smelled like burnt plastic and we had Domino's pizza that year! Fortunately, it was just DH and some good friends (we were newly married then). Later, we moved home and I did the WHOLE dinner (with the junk removed from inside the bird). My dear MIL suggested that I make mashed potatoes from a box since mine had lumps! I replied that at least mine were real! She was a real "joy"...by the way, the M in MIL stands for Monster in my humble opinion. The next time I did Thanksgiving was my son's 1st Thanksgiving...after my brothers in law BEGGED me to cook it since their mom's cooking (yep, the MIL again) was really BAD...her idea of stuffing (not to offend anyone) was wonder bread, chicken stock and onions...YUCK! So, I cooked it that year...while nursing a small guy (he's 10 now)...and decided that was it...I was done! I'll do Christmas or any other holiday that doesn't involve a turkey! Now, we make it a point to try to go somewhere on Thanksgiving so that I NEVER have to look at or eat turkey...my idea of something to be thankful for is lobster....shrimp....crab legs...even prime rib. But Turkey...NEVER!!!!!

So Karen, does Steve ever read these posts? and like me, i'd bet people have a hard time imagining Andrew as "little", since I recall him being about your height already.

Chuck:cool1:

Hi Chuck,

Yep, my "little guy" is not little anymore! By the time we cruise in '09 (he'll be 11 then) he'll be WAY above my modest 5'4"! Right now he's standing about 5'3" :scared1:! So, you can tell it's been a LONG time since I've cooked a turkey :thumbsup2 (yippee!).

Don't worry though Chuck, he's still on target to be your height when fully grown so you'll have to tell him how to survive a cruise (with short doors and a short bed).

Hope you, Lisa and Mason are well.

Karen

By the way...Steve (aka goofy) the introvert just lurks on occassion. Can't say he's ever posted!
