Turkey Day Gang 2009

We just got off of the Magic today. We had a great cruise. This was our 4th time on DCL. While onboard, we booked this 2009 cruise date. We are so excited. Now we have to start a countdown for this cruise. See you all "soon".

Sounds good I will give it a try :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I'll warn you though...you have to REALLY like chocolate! For me, it was just too much chocolate. Steve, my poor suffering choc-a-holic, thought he died and went to heaven...a chocolate heaven!

Welcome aboard Crazycoach! Any kids...if so how old. My DS is 10 now...will be 11 by the time of our Turkey Day 09 cruise. Hmmmm...how is it possible that he keeps getting older and bigger and I stay the same? :scratchin

Rob, have a great time! Steve and Andrew LOVE the warm chocolate melting cake (with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, please) on the Carnival cruises....

Hope you all have a great time!

You know, everyone on cruisecritic boards has told us how great the chocolate melting cake is too. I can't wait!

Priscilla

If the Magic was sailing from Pt. Canaveral this summer, we'd be sailing her instead of the Liberty.:)

3 Kids. DD 12, DD 8, DS 5 at the time of the cruise. Thanks for the greetings Pixie Dust!!:)

Not a huge fan of Carnival here, but have a good trip.

Chuck

We had a good time a few years back on the Glory out of PC. I think with Carnival you have to do 7 day cruises to get away from the " party drunk fest " boat syndrome. Their food surpassed DCL and that surprised us.

Rob – Have a great trip! And, what a great price, especially, compared to what we’re paying for a Cat 12 for Thanksgiving week on the Magic.

Crazycoach - Welcome to the Turkey Gang.

We took the Glory out in March 07 and had a grand time. I can't say that I care for the decor of the ship (public places...rooms were fine) and the ship was hard to navigate because the galley is placed in the middle...but the food was top notch (sorry, even better than Disney in our opinion). We were there for Spring Break and I can't say that we noticed a "party drunk fest" atmosphere either.

While we love Disney (the service is impeccable, the decor is wonderful, and the Turkey Day Gang is the best), we will likely take another Carnival cruise (for a looky loo at an Eastern) before our next Magic cruise too.

Hope you have a great time!

It was a hard ship to navigate:thumbsup2 It is hard to stray from the mouse but with the economy the way it is I think Mickey will be seeing us once every few years from now on:sad2: Plus we would like to do the southern Carb. again real soon and the mouse does not go there. Hopefully 2010 will bring some new ports of call and we may rebook.

Take a look at this . . .

This was a bit shocking, and it makes me only want to cruise Disney - although I'm sure we'll venture to another cruise line eventually. Scary!

Not to start a debate but I don't think that Disney (resort, park or cruise) is any safer (or less safe) than anywhere else. Whether you are at home or on vacation you need to remain vigilent about your safety, security and health.

Having cruised on 3 cruise lines...Disney, Royal Carribean and Carnival, I can't say I felt any safer on one than the other.

However, I will say that the level of cleanliness on the Disney cruise was much more noticeable...maybe it's because we heard that they got a 100% from the CDC and the Captain rewarded the crew by staying longer in Cozumel.

With that said though, I always bring Clorox wipes and hit every light switch, handle and surface in our stateroom, regardless of the cruise line. Maybe it's neurotic on my part...but I work at a University and I've seen what Norovirus can do to a bunch of law students :scared1: :scared1: !

I agree with this 100%!!! My dad was a victim of the Norovirus on another cruise line and almost lost his life. He was hospitalized upon his return to Florida in ICU on a ventilator...double viral pneumonia. He wasn't released from the hospital and then rehab hospital for at least a month. This happened during Thanksgiving 2006. I told my dad about all of the wipes and cleanliness on the Disney Magic at the time. Unfortunately, he said that the ship he was on didn't have the same public cleanliness measures. My dad is excellent about washing his hands (he is a retired dentist), but there were not wipes or hand sanitizer readily available for the others on board. In fact, 2 passengers passed away from that same cruise. We will stick to Disney after that experience!!!

Lisa

Lisa,

I'm so sorry and hope your dad is doing better now.

My family thinks I'm nuts because I carry GermX hand wipes in my purse and use them when we are out. But I had cellulitis in my sinuses more than a year ago and wound up with an infection in my brain from it! So now, while I don't use antibacterial soap at home (because there are good bugs too) I do insist that my family either wash its hands in the restroom when we are out or use one of of thewipes from my purse!

And you better believe that I made sure the family used them before we ate on the cruise line...particularly the buffet. I know we "sanitized" our hands with the stuff when we walked in the buffet...but I don't trust that 1) everyone uses it and 2) that some little kid didn't wipe their nose or something else before they touched that set of tongs/spoon/ etc.

But Disney debates are friendly! :goodvibes I think the statistics speak for themselves. I agree about being vigilant, but I think we are in fact safer on the Disney cruise (just based on the statistics). I don't think it matters if we "feel" safe or not, cause the reality might be very different than what we feel. Having said that, I was looking at the new Royal Caribbean ship - the Oasis - that one I'd like to try one of these days!

This is too funny! Rob and I are polar opposites about germs.:lmao: I drive him crazy when I curl my wrist to open doors, or get a disposable towel to open a bathroom door. He IS really good about washing hands, but I'm a fanatic with my hand sanitizer. (I'm always sure to have plenty on hand when I don't have access to soap and water.)

I don't know...I've read quite a bit about pedophiles being at Disney and the website that was listed earlier in this thread showed some of the ones that I've heard about.

I can't say that I feel safer at Disney than I do at home...or safer at Disney than I feel in Chicago...or safer at Disney than I do on Sanibel Island. I think that criminals and "bad people" exist everywhere (including Disney cruises and Disney parks and resorts) and while I'm not a paranoid fanatic about it (obviously since I'm on the Disboards!) I do what I can to watch out for my family and watch out for others too.

I think the difference between Disney and other cruises is the intangible "magic" that exists. Part of that intangible "magic" is the incredibly wonderful people that I have met, the wonderful CMs and the fact that I grew up with Disney (and remember fighting with my dad to pleeeasseeee miss dinner on Sunday evenings when one of the Winnie the Pooh episodes was on Wonderful World of Disney!). I think Disney allows all of us...regardless of age...to be kids and that's a good thing!

As my mom puts it...her grandchildren are going to be very sad when she grows up one day! I think as I age that will be my motto too (but I don't want grandkids for a LONG time!)!

I definitely feel safest at home - just because the environment is more controllable I guess. I'll probably be one of those moms who won't let her kids wander the ship by themselves even when they're teenagers - ha!

On another note - I have a Disney joke that my son read in a joke book tonight . . .

Why did Tigger put his head in the toilet?????

Any guesses?
