Turkey Day Gang 2009

Live from the Wonder - Almost

Hello Turkeys

Tried to post live from the Wonder. Wireless internet trouble all weekend. The satilite uplink was out for two days.

We arrived on Saturday AM in Sanford and drove over to the Country Inn & Suites (very close to port) This worked out great. We dropped our car at Hertz and took the shuttle over. We were actually the first the very first people in line. We got our number two boarding card and we were all set. I believe that one is reserved for concierge and suite guests.

We had a short wait and boarded close to 11:45 a.m. which was great. We visited around the Wonder and then went to Beach Blanket for a nice lunch. We met another couple who had sailed the Wonder before, they noted that the food selections were fewer than in the past. I still found plenty.

Our DD Lindsey was really missing her Disboard friends, Mason, Andrew, Rachel and Maddy. She did not think it was the same as our Turkey Sailing.

We had a terrible disboard meet. Our family of three headed to the assigned place only to find one teenager and a grandmother whos daughter had posted several times, but was afraid to come, because she thought we might be predators of some kind???? It lasted about two minutes and that was it, no disboard family... We were on our own.

A few things to note. Many other cruisers noted that the economy was slowly catching up with the Disney Cruise Line.. No more body gel or blue aloe in your daily room clean up. Shampoo and Conditioner were replaced upon request every other day???? Even the chocolates on your pillow were limited to two. No big deal to us, but at the Castaway Club get together it was mentioned by others.

This cruise was a 4 day with two stops at Castaway. This was really nice. We found a spot at the end of the family beach both days. The island as usual was the best part.

The 4 day allowed us to see the new show, Toy Story the Musical. Our family did not enjoy this. The costumes were very good and the signing was great. There were some parts that were actually dark and scared many of the children. ( Sid the next door kid blew up some toys ).

All in all it was a great trip. We met some nice folks traveling with kids. But it was not the same as traveling with the great people we met on our 2007 Turkey cruise. We really can't wait until our 2009 Sailing.

We are now at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.. High Speed internet access, YEAH. Planning on taking in a few of the Magical Hours. We hit Epcot last night and finally after a couple of years did Soaring.. It was great and Karen you were right... Sit in the front seat !

Hi Wendy,

Andrew wished that we could have been on the Wonder with you all. Glad to hear that it was good (but I figured it wouldn't be great without the Turkeys!).

Enjoy your time at WDW. Say hi to Lindsey for us!

Karen

Hi Wendy!

Thanks for sharing your Wonder experience!! Mason wishes that Lindsey was sailing with us next weekend on the Wonder!! :thumbsup2 Ya'all are very lucky to spend 2 days at CC!! ::yes:: ::yes:: That is my favorite port!!!
Did Lindsey get involved with any of the Lab programs? Mason had heard that one of his favorite counselors from last Thanksgiving (Ben from England) is now on the Wonder.

Enjoy your time at WDW :thumbsup2

OK, I had to laugh. You know you love cruising when you have a "favorite counselor." I have a favorite counselor, but unfortunately she doesn't work on a cruise ship!! I'll have my kids look for Ben when we do our 3 nighter in November. You guys are so funny!

Hopefully the internet will be up this week...I will start a live thread before we go.

Lisa:

Several of the counselors from Magic jumped ship over to the Wonder. Also several of the stage performers also. When the Magic headed out West for the Mexico sailings many adjustments were made with Staff. I hope that Ben will be there for Mason so he has a familiar face.

Chuck:

You should be all set. The wireless was working as we left. I was given a refund which was nice.

I will be really glad to hear your observations on the Wonder vs Magic. I will also be interested to hear if you think the economic downturn has hit Disney. If you feel the quality or service is slipping.. The trip was "WONDERful", but it seem like a few things had been cut back on.

Wendy

I hope ya'all have a wonderful 4th of July weekend!! :3dglasses pixiedust:

Tomorrow is a workday, then we are picking up Mason from his camp and driving up to the port. We will spend the night at the Radisson and then be at the DCL terminal by 10 am thursday!!! :cool1:

At work today people asked me what we were doing for the weekend. When I said we were going on the Wonder, they said, "didn't you just get off a Disney Cruise? They just do not understand!! :confused3

Lisa

Time for that time-told night before ritual of packing...yes, Lisa is at it again...for a 3 night trip there are way too many outfits for her and for Mason...meanwhile, I will be using one small airline bag that conveniently fits into the overhead rack...3 days, casual clothes...oy vey...

My friend and her family are sailing on our cruise. It's their first ever cruise, and I'm thrilled they are coming along with us! I've been having lots of fun sending them pictures from the food and drink threads here on the DIS! :thumbsup2

Chuck,Lisa, and Mason -

Have a great trip! Looking forward to hearing about your time on the Wonder.pixiedust:

Finally packed, but only after adding another suitcase (not for me)...I feel like I have enough luggage for a week...LOL

Chuck:cool1:

Chuck Lisa & Mason

Have a great trip. It will be a blast.

Good luck with the luggage. Our family actually got away with two suitcases and a small soft sided cooler. We packed a small package of Tide and we were all set for four days of cruise and four days in the Kingdom. We were in Palo on our second night. Larry was the only one with a jacket. Our dress up night was in Tritons and there was one Tux (that we could see) and very, very few jackets.

Casual is the way to go.

Enjoy

Wendy

Casual is the way i am going...no jacket on this trip...this will be my last post until I am on the boat. no laptop either...but, ok, the blackberry is coming along.

Chuck:cool1:

Chuck, Lisa must be a patient woman. If Steve brought his blackberry along it would be dumped overboard! Good thing his work hasn't given him one yet!:thumbsup2

Have a great time.

Karen

Hi Turkeys!! We hope ya'all had a great 4th of July weekend!!

We had a great time on the Wonder!! :thumbsup2 Our only complaint was that the trip is soooo short, but it's a great weekend escape!!!! Now it's back to reality and laundry! :scared1:

Lisa

Welcome home! Did Mason enjoy the trip too? I read your live thread and it sounds like you had a good, relaxing time. Just what I would want right now.

The trip was great...live thread still incomplete...will post photos some time this week (when I can find the time to do so)...
