With all the uproar in Tunisia and the middle east... have they decided yet to chang the itinerary on the Med cruises???

I am on the first med (May 28) and had to call DCL this morning for another issue. Thus, I asked this question. I got the "party line" that they are monitoring the situation carefully, blah, blah." Thus, if they have made a decision, they are not ready to release the information.

Our final payment is due March 1st; I am afraid that DH may cancel if they haven't decided by then. :sad2: I have been watching airfare prices and he told me not to book it yet. We have been looking at other Med itineraries on RCCL and Princess. There are plenty of interenting ones to choose from, but we may need to book our airfare for a different departure port and/or dates.

Kind of figured they were still holding onto info...

But with them canceling in Mexico, I thought maybe they might have thought about Tunisia...

I'll figure on another sea day at least and maybe somewhere else at best...

thanks!

When we went to Tunis, we only got off the boat for a little, then went back on the ship and made a sea day out of it. Many people we spoke to were very underwhelmed by the port and many of the TR's were not that great, so if they do go there, the dock is quite a distance from the city. If you are not comfortable stay on the ship. They are not revolting against tourist or Americans, just their own corrupt system...does that mean I would go into the city? Heck no, but they probably won't bother the cruise ship. Still, I think DCL should cancel the port (in reality they had no business there last year either).

We did that last Aug because DH is very into international business etc and knew about political issues back then. He begged me to stay on the ship and I thought he was crazy. Looks like he was not so crazy.I have my report on that port posted in my blog below. HTH.

Tunisia canceled... replaced with Palermo Italy...

They are indeed replacing Tunis withe Palermo, for the foreseeable future. I'm a TA and got an email from DCL yesterday saying they feel the situation there is too unsettled for them to be able to guarantee guests' safety.

Ah looks like this might not be a mistake then after all. I have been monitoring the website of a travel service for people who work in the travel industry to see if there are any specials on the Med cruises. I checked before we went on our Panama Canal cruise and it showed the original itinerary. I checked again last week and found a completely different itinerary:

Barcelona, At Sea, Palermo, Naples, Olbia, Civitavecchia (Rome), At Sea, La Spezia, Marseille, Villefranche, At Sea, Barcelona

I can absolutely understand why they dropped Tunis, but it is a shame that Malta and Corsica were dropped as well.

Was only notified of change from Tunisia to Palermo, where did you find the other changes? That sure changes perspective on excursions!

On a UK website that offers discounts on cruises, flights, hotels, etc to people who work in the travel industry. They are normally pretty accurate with the information. Unfortunately you can only access their website if you are registered and you need an IATA number to do so. Here is a bit more information about the timings for the first Med cruise (May 28th):

Corinna,
Thanks for the info, I will be very curious if those other 2 changes are in effect for our July cruise date. I actually think I might like the new ports as much as the ones they are taking out.

I managed to find the port schedule for Valetta, Malta and the Magic is not listed in May, June or July. I suppose Malta is too far out of the way if they are not stopping at Tunis. I don't understand why they have scrapped Corsica though.

Uhhggg....I wish they would stop meddling with these Med cruises !!!!:scared1:

We are booked on the 10 night 20th July cruise and I am just about to book a private tour of the Hypogeum on Malta...which must be booked well in advance as admission is very limited ...its also very expensive, and non refundable !!!!

I am begining to lose all confidence in DCL's ability to stick to plans ...they are fast getting like Ryanair for dropping /changing routes !!
