TTC thread take 2

Just a small update on my situation.....

We are officially done with IUI and moving on to IVF. IUI #3 was a BFN with AF arriving last night. My beta was scheduled for tomorrow morning, but it looks like the results came in early.

We met with our RE last week and she's very optimistic on IVF for us and believes that the small remaining endo spots on my left side are the problem and inhibiting fertilization. She doesn't want me to consider surgery at this point because the endo seems limited and she fears issues with scar tissue (I had a lap in 2002). We had to complete 3 rounds of IUI though for insurance purposes. She said we should have a 40%-50% chance of success with IVF. Here's to hoping! Now I will start the pill followed by other hormone therapies (can't remember everything offhand, there's a lot as I'm sure my IVF sisters know!) and we will likely have the egg retrieval mid to late April based on the RE and lab schedules.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Sunday! My mom is coming over and we are going to a restorative yoga class. I did one last week and felt like I had just gotten a massage! It's really nice b/c everything is on the floor. I'm just hoping my cramps aren't too bad and it will still be relaxing. Regular yoga is still pretty tough for me, but the restorative, or gentle basics classes are nice and relaxing. My RE said I should continue with those as long as I am enjoying them and she doesn't recommend or discourage acupuncture. She isn't sure of the benefits and feels that some people get so stressed out about the needle aspect that it defeats the purpose. So, I will probably put that on hold for now and needles totally freak me out. Guessing I will have to get over that for the IVF protocol!

Thanks for listening ladies!!!! :flower3:

Thanks! I actually had a little boy on January 28th. :) We started TTC#2 in the summer of 2006. I was insulin resistant and DH had morph and motility problems. We did 3 Clomid/IUIs in 2009...none of them worked. In November 2009 we went to the RE to figure out our next step and was told it would be IUI with injectibles. We decided that emotionally, financially and physically we needed a break so we decided to take a break until the summer after our big 10th anniversary WDW/DCL trip. We took our trip in June 2010. AF was supposed to arrive during our trip but didn't. Took a HPT when we got home and finally got a BFP that stuck! Amazing...after 4 years it just happened without any doctors or meds or tests. I'm still in shock sometimes when I think about it!

Congratulations Skuttle! I remember your posts from reading this boards (before I really posted). He is gorgeous! All the best to you and your family. :cloud9:

My sunday officialy sucks....I spent the morning in the hospital. Turns out, my dentist hit a nerve when he was fixing my tooth and I have temporary nerve damage!

I had serious jaw pain and frontal seizures!!!!!! OMG!!!!! Sooo angry! :sad2: I'm taking Lortab and anti-biotics now.

Good luck!

Sending good thoughts your way!
Good luck ckret! Thinking of you today!

Thank you soooo much :goodvibes

I am so sorry. :hug:I have been doing acupuncture for about 3 months now. I have no idea if it is working, but it’s not as bad as I thought with the needles. It is actually quite relaxing while you are lying there and I do notice when I leave I am more relaxed. :)

Well I had my egg retrieval this morning. They removed 15 eggs…..so I should find out tomorrow how they are progressing. I am pretty crampy and very tired. I was so nervous about the procedure…I even put the little booties they give you to wear on wrong lol

I do have a question regarding the progesterone shots again for those that have had to do them. I am curious what size needles did you use? I totally forgot to ask the Dr/nurse when I left there and I have to give them to myself in the morning. I am going to try to wait to give then until I call the Dr office but was wondering if any of you can tell me what you used. I did call a pharmacy and the said to use the 18g needles to withdrawal the oil and the 22g 1 ½ needle to inject.

Thanks for sharing your story and welcome! :welcome:
I am so sorry to hear about your losses. I can imagine the pain you must be going through. Insurance is such a pain. I am jealous of everyone that their insurance covers infertility. We only have 50% coverage with a LIFETIME maximum of $10,000. So if we end up needing to do IVF we'll be paying out of pocket for the most part.

Only 10 days till my beta! I had my progesterone level checked yesterday and it was a little low so the RE increased my progesterone from 2x per day to 3x per day. I also got a booster hcg injection which they said will increase my progesterone. Let's hope I have a little fertilized emby in there and it sticks to something! ;)

I am very lucky to have insurance, like yours it's 50/50 till 11k. I am not sure how much is left after this last IVF though. My first 5 IUIs were covered thanks to my first RE and his magic billing lady.

Lots and lots of luck on your beta!!

The whole thought of IVF is much scarier than it actually was I think. I was just terrifed of my ER, but they put me to sleep and it was over. The worst part is all the waiting and waiting.
I agree you get used to the shots. I will be on double the shots next time since we are adding 2 more meds:<

I didn't so acupuncture. I reallly wanted to, but in the end I think that it was going to stress me out more than it would do good. My insurance pays for 3, but the place that "works" with my RE wanted me to pay cash and get it back from the insurance.

Lots of luck with your cycle.

Opps Just saw your update. 15 is great!!!! I went to work the next day, I had to:< but I agree that I felt crampy and awful. Luckily I had the weekend to sit around.

This is bad, but I am not 100% sure even though I did PIO for 6 IUIs and my IVF. But I am sure you use the bigger needle to get the med out and then use the smaller one for the shot. DH did all mine and he agrees, but it's been Oct since my last shot. They are killer, but I prefer to the other stuff.

Good Luck!!! Are you starting with 50mg or 100mg of Clomid? When I was started taking clomid it's what finally regulated my cycles. Do you also take metformin?

She started me on 50mg Clomid. She said she doesn't want me to take metformin for now, though that could change.

I'm sorry that your IUI didn't work, but it sounds like your doctor is very optimistic about IVF. That seems very positive to me.

I'm glad that it's behind you--I totally understand your nerves, as I would've been nervous too! Here's to a successful IVF!

Ladies, I have a Clomid question for you.

This is my first month taking it, and I'm curious what it's likely to do to my irregular cycle. Am I more likely to ovulate on CD14 rather than later like I used to? Will AF be more likely to arrive on CD28 than my usual CD36-41-ish? I say "usual" for those months when I actually have AF, lol.

Obviously DH and I intend to cover as many days as possible that I'm likely to be most fertile, but I'm curious if Clomid will make me more like clockwork than I normally am.

oh man I'm so sorry :sad2:

It does sound like your RE has a great outlook for you. If it's the endo preventing fertilization, then IVF will get that part done for ya. Then we can pray hard that it sticks!!!

how long do your acu sessions last?? Are you doing another post-transfer?

15 eggs is great!!!!! Can't wait to hear what they say this morning.

That sounds right. The bigger the gauge (#) the smaller the actual needle. I withdrew with 18 or 19 and then used the 22 to do the shot. fun fun stuff

Ok...I am officially nervous. I found out late yesterday that my egg retrieval is tomorrow (sunday):scared1:

What great news! 15 eggs is awesome! As for teh progesterone shots you use the 18 gage to withdraw the oil and the 22 gage to inject it. I am going on my 7th week of taking them and I have to tell you yes they are uncomfortable, but afterwards! Make sure you rub your butt for about a minute before you get your injection adn then a minute after. It helps with absorptions. Also get a heating pad and use it when you go to bed at night. Again it will help with absorprtion into your muscles. Remember you can do everything right but you are still going to have discomfort. ;) Mike told me yesterday that he thought I only had 2 more weeks of taking them! Hell, to be honest, what ever keeps these babies where they are supposed to be Im in!

amen sister!!!!! Glad you've got a rhythm down with the shots. I hope I am going to be on them MUCH longer next time too....

I just want to welcome all the newcomers to the thread here. I hate that so many of us are (still) struggling.

I'm sorry, I'm usually so much better at the whole welcoming thing....but there was a lot going on that I missed and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. I will just take it from here and hope to get to know all of you soon. :goodvibes

It may, for me my cycles were every other month around 60 days. After taking clomid my cycles are now 35 days exactly every month. So it may shorten your cycles too. When I was taking clomid just by itself my dr had me temp chart and also take OPK's starting day 10 twice a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon/evening so I would be sure to catch it. Unfortunately I don't ovulate on my own so I never got a positive. Some people do ovulate later with longer cycles so if you don't get a positive around day 14 you may not get one until as late as day 27 taking into effect a 41 day cycle.

What over the counter prenatal vitamins do you guys take? I have been taking the gummy vitafusion ones but I am getting tired of them and want to try something different. I have a hard time swallowing the large horse pill ones.

I currently take some that were prescribed by my RE -- large horse pill ones. :confused3
:rotfl:

The first bottle I had bought on my own was at Walmart and I could never find them again, but they actually didn't taste nasty b/c they had some sort of coating. And they weren't quite so 'horsey' if I remember.

I still have the bottle in my nightstand...in the hopes of ever finding them again. I should probably look for them online. (But I'm at work and can't remember the brand now)

Thanks for the info! Looks like I need to get some OPK's. I was using the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor before to monitor ovulation, but my PCOS screws it up. So I'll invest in some OPK's to start using on Day 10.

I have a friend who just started Accupuncture (she's doing IVF.) She said she loves it, but I'm just not sure if I could do it. I HATE needles. I did have it done ONCE, I actually used it to induce labor with my last child. I hated it and at the time swore I'd never do it again. However, it worked, I went into labor 8 hours later, and I keep reading it could really help regulate my hormones. Like you, I just can't decide if it's worth the cost and the trauma of those darn needles. :scared1:
