TT SR--designing car in exit area?

We are going to want to use the single rider line on TT (hopefully it'll be open). I swear I read somewhere that if you go to the area in the exit exhibits where you can design the cars for those little racetracks, you can design a car, tap your MB, and then when you ride SR, you can tap and have that car show up on the ride. Thus, even though you've skipped the pre-ride car design by doing SR, you don't have to miss out on that element of the ride experience. Can anyone confirm whether this is true?
Thanks!

Absolutely - I do it all the time.

And if you have more than one band/card, you can design (and store) more than one car. In fact, the way the system works, pretty sure you can use any rfid device to design a car. It doesn't talk to the MyDEx system, it's just looking for an ID number to hold on to between the design and boarding areas.

Yes in the show room area there is a design station. We go in ahead of time and design a car and then the other one of us designs in line

Well, you learn something new every day, I had NO idea about this!

There is also an area in the show room to virtually race the car you've made!

Yes, it has served us well. Your MB will save the last car you designed, regardless of where/when you designed it. With three kids, we run into "challenges" when we ride TT. We get split up into 2 and 3. Whomever is in the 2 group obviously gets to design because my wife or I will let them do it, but the 2 kids who are in the 3 group argue over who gets to do the design. Having this feature helps to curb the arguments...a little. Whomever doesn't design scans their bands at the ride start and competes against the one that did. Sometimes I think the design is more fun for my kids than the ride...they are super competitive.

Yep, works like a charm! Not being able to design was the one reason we avoided single rider line. My guys like that part as much as the ride. Once we discovered this little secret, single rider it is! Makes touring plans so much easier at Epcot! Those Tier 1 FPs are a real pain and now this is one we don't have to worry about, without missing out on anything.

Just a note of clarification, your MB does not store the car (actually nothing is ever actually stored on an MB). The Test Track system stores designs matched to the RF signature of an MB or any RFID card really. These designs can be available for a long time, even on a subsequent trip, but I have heard that the system is sometimes purged, or that older designs will be eliminated so they are not there forever.

I always ride SR, so I go through once and use one of the pre-made cars, then I will spend a little time at the end to design my own for subsequent rides.

Any chance you read that in my trip report? :) Someone informed me of it there. I didn't know about it, either!

So 2 different magic bands for the same person for the same MDE will store 2 cars? If it is using the RFID ID that is what I would expect.

Probably so! I'm so glad to know this works and to have received so much helpful information from others who have used it here! Y'all are the best!

Precisely. This suggests that other rfid devices will also work, but I'd hesitate to go so far as to say say that *any* rfid device works.
But as mentioned above, it isn't clear how long the system stores the designs. I would be surprised if they store longer than two weeks, since only a tiny fraction of WDW vacations last longer than that. I know mine had been purged after four months, but one might think they would keep them for the duration of a typical trip.
