TSA Pre-Check With Kids 12 and Under

Unfortunately, elderly are not automatic like kids are. I'd say it's more likely if his FF account shows him residing at the same address as the two of you. Also, if you have more friendly TSA folks, they might let him through, both as a courtesy to you, and as a way to keep the regular line moving.
Thanks. This particular reservation is not linked to his FF account - the airline website said the names didn’t match, and he hasn’t gone through the process to fix the discrepancy, so hopefully they’ll think he lives with us and give him Pre✔️!

While we're talking about TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry with kids, I have a question about the other end of the lifespan. We'll be flying with my 96 year old dad soon. Both of us have Global Entry, therefore we have TSA Pre, but my dad doesn't. My dad's airline reservations are on the same reservation confirmation number as ours. Will he get TSA Pre too?
This is probably a YMMV thing. We have TSA Pre, granny does not. But every time she has flown with us over the past few years, her boarding pass has always had the TSA Pre stamp on it as well.

I wouldn't count on it. Keep in mind, none of us have pre-check. However, several years ago, our extended family of six...four generations....flew to Florida for a cruise. We were all on one reservation on Southwest, except for my 77-year-old mother-in-law. Since she was flying on a seniors fare, she had to go on a different reservation.

The five of us on the first reservation (oldest was me, at 59) all got the pre-check.

My MIL did not. And she needed it the most.

At least, since she was over 75, she didn't have to take off her shoes.

My family has global entry which includes precheck. We had one trip that southwest decided my name didn’t match and I did not get the pre check. I had to go through the regular line while my husband and girls went through precheck.

Granny was always on our reservation - probably makes a big difference.

That’s frustrating. Was it a simple mistake by Southwest or do you a special name?

I think global entry had my middle name, while my southwest switched to my middle initial.
Sorry that happened, must have been frustrating.

I've run into this - but thankfully not on my boarding pass. I forget what airport I was at, but they scanned my ID and it wouldn't work and I had to use another form of ID. Turned out the problem was my legal name is my maiden name on my driver's license, but my military ID is hyphenated. This only was a problem this year, but it seems nowadays names need to be exact.

I wish they could put her on our reservation. With two different reservations, it means two different check-ins-at-24-hours.

However, at 80, she is now not mobile enough to navigate airports without a wheelchair. So she (and my husband) has priority boarding.

Because she has priority boarding, I check ourselves in first; then her. We usually get in the low Bs and she usually gets the high Bs. And she still wonders why we have the better boarding position. Even though, she boards before us.

For future reference, can this type of mistake be corrected by the airline at the airport?
The answer is probably. The check in agent can fix the issue so that the names match, usually then when the BP prints it will have the Pre designation. There are other considerations as to why the Pre didn't print, or the airline may be out of TSA slots.

We had arrived at the airport ( this was Tampa not MCO) right after a college basketball team so the lines to see a check in agent was crazy. I had called southwest when we got our boarding passes, and we figure out why I didn't have it, but the phone agent was unable reassign the boarding pass with pre-check.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get TSA PreCheck for a newbie?
Our son's friend Dan the Man (17) received his state id yesterday and last night DH set up his TSA appointment for Thursday, Sept. 16th.

Last thing, my son received his first state id (Michigan) when he was only 5 years old.

In my experience, your precheck status is valid immediately following the appointment. Your TSA ID number should be included with the interview paperwork.

When was this? And was this for GE or Pre? When I got Pre in 2019 it was 9 days after my appointment that I got the email with the number. They have to run a complete background check after you give them all of the information at the interview. GE is different in that they do a lot of the checks before the interview so they know what questions to ask.

You may be right; my whole family has done GE, and the interview always seemed to be a formality; asking questions that they already knew the answers to from the background check.

It's rather random, and depends on how many applications have come in recently. Sometimes it can take a few weeks, and sometimes you get the email before you get home from the appointment. We've done the on-airport offices and the 3rd party offsite offices, and that doesn't seem to make a difference AFAICT.
