TSA Pre-Check With Kids 12 and Under

Does anyone know how long it takes to get TSA PreCheck for a newbie?
Our son's friend Dan the Man (17) received his state id yesterday and last night DH set up his TSA appointment for Thursday, Sept. 16th.

Last thing, my son received his first state id (Michigan) when he was only 5 years old.

My husband and I did the application online for precheck at the end of June and had our appointments early in July. It was about 26 hours after our appointments that we received the email that we were approved and how to find our KTN (known traveler number)

No, 13 and up.

No, but you can get nexus (if those sites are open yet) or GE, if you have travel right after they are 13 and you won't have time to get precheck. Those two come with precheck.

Well, yes it's Canada, but it also gives you Global Entry which also gives you Precheck.
And it's cheaper than even plain old Precheck.

If you have no issues that keep you from Canada and you can get yourself to the interview locations, it's a terrific option. For whenever they start taking applications again, if they haven't already.

In 2018, I signed my daughter up for TSA Pre-Check and she was only 12 at the time. She received her KTN in August because we were scheduled to travel in October. She turned 13 in September so she was going to need it before we traveled but there was not enough time between when she turned 13 and when we were scheduled to leave for her to get enrolled. Perhaps it was a unique situation, but I can say with 100% certainty that my 12-year-old was able to get TSA-Pre-Check.
