9/3 Boma
Im down to the last two table service reviews, and then I will work on Counter Service when I get a chance.
At this point we had 7 table service credits left. My original plan was to eat at Narcoossees on this evening. If I had stuck to this plan I was going to have paid for my sons dinner out of pocket at Shutters since he wanted to order off the kids menu anyway. This would have given us 8 credits and we would have used all of them up at Narcoossees.
This plan was done in by the aromas that would always be wafting up from Boma as we would be heading across the AKL lobby on the way to our room. My wife truly loves seafood, and to give up lobster, etc. really tells the story of how intoxicating the smells were in order for her to be the one to suggest switching to Boma. Another factor was that we would not have to travel to dinner either. We spent so much time in the parks that we had not really had a chance to look around AKL all that much.
This day we had spent the morning at the Magic Kingdom and at around 1:00 we decided to head over to Epcot for lunch at Sommerfest for brats and kraut. On our way over to World Showcase I grabbed Fast Passes for Test Track since DW and DD had not done this yet. We entered WS near Mexico so I could grab Nachos for DS since he didnt want a bratwurst. I was just going to get the nachos and a bottle of water, but the CM said why not take the dessert anyway. I remembered reading a trip report where someone made a point of always getting a churro when at WS. Since I have never had a churro I thought why not. Truthfully, I did not even know what one looked like, and I love Mexican food. When I got the food the nachos were packed in a styrofoam box for takeaway which was perfect because DS was going to eat them in Germany anyway. Both kids looked at the churro, and almost in stereo said What is that?. I told them it was a churro, and was supposed to be good. They kind of turned up their nose at it at first, but I told them just give it a try. DS was the first to sink into it. Next was DD. At this point we were walking past Norway, and I told the family to go ahead and keep heading for Germany while I buy a Carlsberg to chug down on the way. Once I got my beer I double-timed it up to the family who were now in between China and the Outpost. The churro was gone, so assuming the worst I asked if they didnt care for it, and threw it away. Just the opposite, they really liked it and inhaled the thing.
Wait a minute, Im supposed to writing a review on Boma, right? OK, Ill get to it here shortly after I finish my not so little Epcot story. The bratwurst were good (again), and we headed for Test Track. Wouldnt you know it, before we even got back toward Norway it started to rain. There goes Test Track. At this point we decided to just head back to AKL, but by the time we got to the car we were soaked. Once back in the room we all changed into dry clothes and headed down to the lounge for some cocktails. We sat there for awhile and I had 3 Tusker lagers while DW tried a couple of their specialty drinks. If you ever stop by here give the snack mix a try. It is a nut mix with a dusting of African flavors. Hard to pinpoint all of what they use, but it is unique and very addicting.
We had a 7:30 ressie, so at around 20 after I went down and checked in and got the pager. I definitely knew that we would not get seated on time as the resort really got packed from Friday afternoon onwards. They were turning away everyone who did not have an ADR. At about 7:45 the pager lit up and we were off.
We decided to have a bottle of wine with the meal as kind of a sendoff since this was to be our last full day at WDW. I chose the Gamekeepers Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and was very pleased with the choice.
Our server asked if we were on the dining plan and when I told her yes, she began to explain the different ways to maximize. She pointed out that the smoothies were included as the beverage if we wanted, etc. She informed us that the Dining Plan was not a good deal for the servers. I told her that we were not really out to maximize the plan by ordering the most expensive non-alcoholic drinks, etc. I did however hint to her that since I was going to be paying separately for the alcohol that good service is always rewarded. Im sure that she picked up on this because we had outstanding service for the evening, making sure that the kids had ketchup, bringing DW Tabasco, etc.
The buffet itself had SO many choices. I started out by trying very small portions of a lot of things to see what I liked. I laid this ground rule out for the kids too. I wanted to make sure that they did not waste food. I hate when I see people getting rid of almost full plates of food and then going back to get other things. Hello, McFly?
Some of my favorites were the Durban style roasted chicken, the ribs (very tender and meaty), prime rib of course and the soups. I grabbed a second bowl of the Coconut Curried Chicken soup it was so good. There was also a seafood stew that was very good. Everything that I tried I liked in fact. The kids did not really experiment however, and with the exception of some soup, stuck to chicken tenders, spaghetti, fries and macaroni and cheese. They went for seconds though, so that means that it was pretty good. There was also a lot of fresh fruit which we all enjoyed. Desserts were outstanding as well. There were so many that looked good that I just went ahead and grabbed one of everything. When I got back to the table I got the look from DW. I explained that it was our last night and it is a vacation, right? Ill ride the bike extra long when we get back, honest. No, really, I will.
This was a big time winner, and I would definitely go back without hesitation. Im really glad that my wife suggested this. And it left us with 3 TS credits left to use at the ESPN Club. I had originally planned on paying for this out of pocket since my son wanted to go there before we headed to the airport.

Boo Hoo, our last day. We had a surprise for DD on this day. We packed her Snow White costume and I had reserved My Disney Girls Perfectly Princess Tea Party for her at the Grand Floridian. We packed everything up, and of course I had to buy another suitcase to bring all of the stuff we bought home. I called bell services and then went and retrieved the car. We were off to the MK parking lot, and then we all went over to the GF by monorail and checked DW and DD in for the tea party. DS and I went over to MK for a little while and agreed to meet back up at the boat launch outside MK at around 12:30.
Since the tea party is more of an event than a meal I knew that everyone would be hungry for lunch. ESPN Club was fairly busy, but we were still seated right away. And as a bonus, one of the TV screens had the Formula 1 race on. Excellent!
DW, the family wing nut, wanted the Red Wings as her meal so we ordered a double batch of these in the hottest variety, Flame. I got the chili for my appetizer. The chili was excellent, and piping hot. It was also pretty spicy, so I was very happy. The wings were HUGE. Each wing was the whole wing minus the tip part. Most places split the wings into the little drumette part and then the other part with the two bones. Im not kidding here, the two orders of wings were 20 of the whole wings. The wing lover had her work cut out for her. The kids and I even helped out, but alas, she was unable to finish. And I even ordered a third beer to give her more time.
The kids both ordered the Double Play, which were two burgers and fries. These burgers were of a nice size and the fries were quite good. I ordered the Fish on the Bun, which was a nice cut of Mahi Mahi that was offered either grilled or blackened. I chose grilled, and this sandwich was delicious. It was served on a nice whole grain bun and came with the excellent fries. I devoured every speck of this.
Only my son had room for dessert. He chose the Hockey Puck, which was a brownie covered with chocolate and surrounded by a vanilla sauce. It also had a small goalie stick made of chocolate with it.
Again , service was outstanding, and I made sure to leave a nice tip with the separate bill for our alcohol. A very nice ending to a fantastic vacation. We were all sad to leave and cant wait to go back.

Now, if you have followed my reviews you will see that there were no really bad grades given. I dont feel that I am an easy reviewer however. What it does illustrate though, is how good the food really was everywhere. If you want to see a few lower than average grades stay tuned for my counter service reviews.
