We currently own at OKW with a June UY, bought direct from Disney. We are looking at a small add on. If we purchased a Saratoga contract resale, with an October UY, I understand that we would have 2 separate member numbers. How does that work when making reservations? I know there is a one time transfer per member per year, so essentially I would have to transfer the points from the Saratoga member number to our OKW member number each year, and then use those Saratoga points once we got inside of the 7 month window?!?! Am I correct? Way off base?

I would like to keep things simple, which would obviously be buying direct again with the same UY to keep one member number, but the savings might just be to good to pass up.

So, I take my predicament to my DISers because I trust no one else!!

Thanks

Having two contracts with different use years is like being two different people that happen to both own DVC.

As you state, you can transfer the points from one contract to the other each use year and then you can combine the points at the 7 month window. This uses up your 1 transfer per use year per membership for both contracts.

Another option is to reserve a many of the nights as you can from each contract and have MS link the reservations. The linking may or may not cause an issue with online check in or the 180+10 entitlement. You might still have to transfer points because you cannot combine points from two different memberships to put towards the same night.

It would be easier to manage another contract if it has your same use year. Be sure to get it titled exactly the same as your Master (OKW) contract and ask that Disney tack it on to your existing membership. Then you can combine freely at 7 months (11months if the home resort is the same).

Unless you are in a big hurry for the points, consider waiting for a contract that has your same use year.

Thank you for the reply. We are in a bit of a hurry on points, I may just end up going direct to keep things simple. With a small add on, the savings are not what they would be with a larger contract and the ease of having one member number and no transfers may offset the small savings.

I knew I could turn to the DISers!

I thought about adding the points I needed direct mainly because we wanted a specific use year, which really would not have been a problem (In fact you could use this to your advantage). I decided called Fidelity and TSS about contracts and asked to be notified if one came available. TWO WEEKS and it was exactly what we were looking for. I guess what I'm saying is, give it a shot, and don't loose hope !! :thumbsup2

Unless you really wanted SSR for some reason, I would be really suprised if you could not find a comparable deal for OKW points.

I owned two UY's when we first became members in 2009, but one contract was only 50 points at VWL. I realized that with something that small, along with with the 130 I owned at BLT, that when making reservations at the 11 month mark, I did not own enough in either contract to book all 5 nights of our typical summer vacation without borrowing, something I did not want to do. So, I sold VWL only 2 months after buying it.

We know have two UY's again, but my BWV contract with the Dec UY has 150 points and my BLT membership with a June UY has 180 points (130 and 50 point contracts).

Because they are this big, I am able to really use them in a way that allows me to book the nights they way that I want.

So, if you are considering a 2nd UY, be sure it will do what you want in terms of booking. I think its much harder when the contract is small and would probably spend more to get the same UY in this case because you won't have to worry about transfers, etc. if you do--everything is combined at the 11 month mark if they are the same resort, and at the 7 month mark if they are not.

Good luck!

Don't consider buying a 2nd UY account.Very hard to make reservations and there are some many deals out there to get , just wait for your UY.

If you won't simple, buy resale in the same use that you have it will make booking more easy to understand .
