We will be sailing on July 3, 2004. Our DSs will be 14 and just shy of 16 during our cruise. DH mentioned getting something for them for the cruise this Christmas.

I thought about giving them money to use as on board credit. We could create something that looks like a certificate telling the amount and how they could use it. Not very personable, but may be the best for this age group.

Any other suggestions???

Thanks!
Karen

I orginially posted cute things for girls, and then looked back to see you wrote DSons! Oops!!!! I am sure your boys DO not want sparkly sunscreen!!:p
I agree with the others, gift certificates for the video games! Or even better........2 way radios!!! They would have a ball!

perhaps a "gift certificate" created on the computer for a $ amount stateroom credit for your upcoming cruise....

Hi Karen :wave2:

We've been thinking of things we could get for our DSs too.... How about snorkel gear if they don't already have it?? Some underwater one-use cameras? Disney Dollars they can use to buy arcade cards with?? (They'd have to give you the Disney Dollars to put towards your shipboard account, I don't believe they can use the Disney Dollars directly to buy the cards). These are a few of the ideas we've come up with. We want to have baskets waiting for the kids when we get onto the ship :boat:

Clothes? shoes? sandals? new bathing suits? cool sunglasses? (okay, I notice that they are boys but maybe some teenage boys are somewhat into clothes?)

A new piece of luggage?

Lisa

Here's a thought... you could buy *me* a cruise. How about that!

EDIT: Oh. I read your post. You want to buy your kids something for Christmas. Silly of me to believe you were thinking of me with the thread subject of "Trying to think of a Christmas gift..."

I just had another idea... buy them roundtrip airfare to the grandparents' place for your cruise. Spend the difference at the spa.

Water cameras, film, an album. The stuff that will nickle and dime you in June, you can stuff stockings with them.

Oh, btw, I'll be gettin' off the day you're gettin' on!

I'll keep it nice for ya! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

How about some cruise merchandise? T-shirt? DCL lanyard? Ball cap??

Find someone going on a cruise soon and see if they'll pick something up for them.

If you decide to go that route, I'd be willing as long as I know specifics (sizes, etc)

Hey KarenB.

Keep the "Christ" in Christmas, not the "Cruise." My vote = buy them a toy...

Since the cruise is pretty far away, I would probably emphasize the "excitement of planning" by putting brochures, excursion lists, sample navigators, and add some things like a model of the Magic and some Disney dollars - maybe including the $$ with a certificate describing the ways to use it on the ship such as: arcades, sodas, snacks for the movies, etc. Depending on how creative you want to get, you can make a "Disney-themed" box to hold this collection. You can find a lot of merchandise on Ebay also. Sounds fun. BTW, there's no way you can take the Christ out of Christmas otherwise it would be 'mas' and who would want to celebrate a holiday called 'mas' - I wouldn't even know how to pronounce it...

Get them a blow up Palm Tree for their rooms, cool Tropical shirts for tropical night, blues brothers sunglasses & MP3 players or Ipods. Rip some MP3s on them with cruise tunes... Beach boys, Jimmy Buffet, etc... They may not appreciate the music, but they'll love the MP3 players! I bet that will get them in the mood!

Or if you want to go crazy, get them some steel drums!:earseek: LOL!!

Karen,

What about a personalized calendar leading up to the cruise. You could use screen shots of the ship and the ports for the different months. Then set up (and put on the calendar) some family nights. For example: Family night - let's discuss what we want to do in Grand Cayman. Have them do some research on the library or the net - you can do your reseach here.

Maybe have a reward set for each month as well. For example at the time of finals set up a shopping trip for after for new swim gear or new summer clothes.

Does your family already snorkel? It's great fun. Maybe you could look around and see if your local Y offers a snorkel class and you could all do it. Or call a local dive shop they often offer classes as well.

Just a few random thoughts.
