First off, let me say my eyesight is pretty bad. New glasses for me run $200-300 because I never qualify for any specials. I tried to order them online through a discount site, but they totally screwed up my Rx, and I ended up going round and round with them for months. :headache:

My current pair still seems to be doing the trick, but one lens got scratched up. Of course, it is directly in my line of vision.

Do any of you know of a way to buff eyeglass lenses to remove surface scratches? I know it's a long shot, and I don't want to ruin the pair I have now, but if anyone knows of a tried and true way to do this, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks! :)

Go to the place where you were fitted for glasses or to a local independent shop and ask if there is anything that can be done. If the frame is in good shape, they may be able to order new lenses for you. If the scratches are only in a non-scratch coating, the lenses may be able to be re-coated.

My lenses run $100+ each (I just get the basic frames to keep the cost down), so if I could avoid that, I'd be happy! ;)
I will be giving them a call today to see if they have any way to help me. I was just wondering if anyone here had any home methods they've used before. Thanks though. :)

For the future: if you buy your glasses at Walmart (and a lot of other places) you can purchase insurance (I think mine at Walmart was something like $25-$28 for two years coverage). That insurance will cover your lenses and your frames, no questions asked. So you can get new frames if they break or are damaged and you can get new lenses (FREE) if yours get scratched. It's defnitely worth the $.

I needed new glasses last year. I wear contacts all day long and only wear the glasses at night around the house so I didn't want to sepnd a fortune on glasses. I ordered my glasses from the shop in my eye doctors office and told her that I only wear them a coulple hours a day. She went in the back and came back out with a tray of cheap frames. My frames were $40! I was so excited! They wouldn't have been my first choice but for as infrequently as I wear them, they are perfect!

I will definitely be doing this on all future purchases! I used to have no problem keeping my glasses in good condition between exams, but I have gotten very klutzy in my old age, LOL!

Have you tried ordering through zennioptical.com ?

I have a horrible Rx and I was able to order through them and get a pair of glasses and a pair of Rx sunglasses for $30 (shipping included). you just need to know your PD (pubilary Distance Sp?) which your eye doctor should give you if you ask.

My mom got hers at a place called Americas Best and they seemed very reasonable. Had some specials like 2 pair for under $100.

Yes, I tried, but they aren't able to make the lenses I need. Thank you, though!

I do get my glasses through them ~ but I don't qualify for the special deals due to my lens strength. One pair through them is $200-300. :sad2:

I am just going to order new ones, it looks like. I will get insurance and be extra careful with the new pair!
