Trying to get up the nerve

Well our 26th anniversary trip is coming up in 2 weeks and we can't wait! First time alone with my wife in over 22 years...no kiddos. My problem is...I want to try collecting autographs. Always had a secret desire to do it...was happy to stand in lines with my kids over the years for them to meet characters and get autographs. So...how does a man with a wife and 3 grown children go about getting the nerve?

So...how does a man with a wife and 3 grown children go about getting the nerve?

Make a game of it. Just go stand in line. Laugh at each other and everyone else will laugh with you. I can guarantee that you won't be the only two adults only couples or singles standing in line. Discuss plans for those autographs, like making a scrapbook of photos with signatures.

I say go for it and have fun with it. Who cares about age. I would recommend that you do buy an autograph book before you do the meet and greets. Recently while Me and my wife were on our honeymoon, we were getting Character autographs. we are both in our early 30’s, and we felt like little kids again. The only thing we wish we did was buy that autograph book earlier.

Another option is to book some character meals. I've never had anyone look at me funny in an all adult group gathering autographs or getting pictures with the characters at a meal.

Epcot has a great area. It takes a little while to get through the line - but you get all the big names. The camera assistant guy will even take pics for you with your camera. Although if your in line without kids - don't pull out your camera until you are at the front of the line.

Animal Kingdom has some good areas too. The Pooh gang hangs out on the river and can be a lot of fun to goof around with.

Magic Kingdom if you go to the very end of the parade route (when it ends at Splash Mountain) - they will come right up to you and take a picture During the Parade. Mickey and Minnie hang out at night behind the castle too.

If you don't want to go into AK - in the late mornings you can meet and greet Lion King characters for free outside the gates.

It rained one day and I also got some cool shots of Star Wars people hanging out inside the line for Star Tours at Hollywood Studios - they were suppose to all do jedi tranning but it was cancelled.

Plus you never know who else you'll run into - could've swore I rode behind Ross the Intern from the Leno show on Space Mountain yesterday.

Oh and I think the autograph books now come with a special pen and a hangle to carry them. Fancy. I'll check today when I'm at the park.

Alas down to 2 days. Sad sad sad.

I'm going to be doing the same in a few days, but I'll be mostly solo. I think I'll stick to photos and not necessarily signatures though. I'm just going to go with the flow and hope their is a willing CM or nice person that will take my photo.

I am 31 and still get the autographs, what me and my freids do is we make it into kinda of like a scavenger hunt in each park we go to. we take a autograph and a camera and we have 3 hours or so to get as many autographs and pictures as we can and at the end the one wity the least amount that day would have to by the first round at the pool side bar or dinner that night. It is a great for adults to play to make them feel like a kid agian.

We're arriving tomorrow for trip #8 since 1992, originally scheduled to be our first without the kids. Now it's us flying from California, son/21 flying down from NYC, and daughter/25 (and boyfriend) flying over from Denmark. I wonder how that happened!

go for it. while standing in line with my children I spoke to a few couples who were in lines for thier children while they were at lunch or in another line. if anyone says anything just tell them that.

Live Dangerously! Go for it! I honestly don't think anyone would give it a second glance. Afterall, Disney is for the kid in all of us.

I have two autograph books; one for my son and one for me. I even saved the Birthday card that Mickey and Minnie signed for my brithday. That would be my 18th, 29th brithday just in case you were curious.

We will be buying an autograph book in the CR Fantasia store first thing when we arrive at the hotel.

One of the most incredible things about Disney is that it's perfectly okay to act like a kid! Do what you want to do and have fun with it. I never want to grow up so much that I don't feel the magic and wonder of it all when I'm at WDW and I'm 52.

My kids are getting older, and I am divorced, but you bet when I meet Mr Right he WILL love Disney and we will do all of that and more. So do it!!

Now where is Mr Right!!!! lol (and he must love Disney!! What is wrong with people anyways......how can anyone not like it!! Yes Im talking to myself here!! lol)

Stand near the character and wait until a large group of children get on line then just join them. No one will know they aren't yours.
