Im camping solo at the Fort for 18 days from Jan 30th. I will then have another 25 days of camping solo in Orlando after the fort. Im trying to decide which other campsites to stay at and am hoping some of you can help me out in deciding which sites would be best for me.

It will be my first time camping in orlando, i am from the UK and will be buying most of my equipment after i arrive. I won't have a car so will have to rely on public transport to get from campsite to campsite.

The campsites i am currently looking at are.

Turkey Lake
Tropical Palms
KOA Fort Summit
KOA Kissimee
Lake Louisa State park.

Was just looking for a bit of advice from people who have stayed at any of the above sites and which ones they would reccomend and might be more suitable for me. Security and saftey is a big issue for me as i am staying in orlando for 9 weeks in all, so will have alot of personal belongings, park tickets, passport etc.

I would like to stay at 3 different campsites during those 25 days, but at the same time i'm thinking it would be easier staying at 2 or even just 1 so i wouldn't have to travel between campsites so much and lug all my equipment around.

I'd appreciate any opinions and what you camping pro's would suggest.

Well, first, I'd ask-what, other than Disney, would you like to see in the Orlando area? And, next, if I were you, I'd spend some time googling up public transportation in the Orlando area. Although I know there are buses in the area, I am not sure how they run.

If I was visiting and tent camping in the Orlando area, I would probably reserve a campsite at Disney for the entire time. That way, no lugging epuipment around. Plus, you will always have a clean shower and a safe place to rest your head at night. You could also keep much of your money, any valuables, etc at the front desk. Then, if there was anything in the area that you wanted to see, that was farther away, you could consider site-seeing and perhaps renting a hotel room for a night, if you didn't think getting back to Disney every night was always going to work.

This trip sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
Best wishes.
Kathy

Im staying at the Saratoga springs resort for 3 weeks at the start of the holiday. So i will be on site at disney for 5 and a half weeks. I had originally booked 28 days at the fort, but had to change my dates and then the last 10 days off my stay doubled in price going from around $45 to $85 dollars so i've decided to cancel them nights. I think 5 and a half weeks is long enough to be onsite at Disney.

I will have passes for Universal/seaworld as well. Turkey lake seems like a good location to spend a week doing universal but the campsite it self doesn't sound as nice as some of the others. Would anyone recommend Turkey lake or not?

I am trying to get as much info on transport before i go. Reading up on the Lynx buses, mears shuttle etc. Although im not quite sure yet how much equipment im going to have to lug around from campsite to campsite, that could be my biggest problem.

If you are tenting it I'm concerned you could get very chilly!!! Last year in Dec. we litterally froze to the point we had to go in before we wanted to because the temps were so bitterly cold we were concerned about frost bite. !!! It doesn't get that cold often but that does need to be a consideration!. I was wondering if you had checked out rentals of an RV for a month. I know I met a couple from Germany at one campground and they got their RV for 450 a month. I'm thinking that would be a much better and more reasonable cost. If you got a class C it is drivable and you could go where you wanted and then back to your campsite at night. Set up is easy so that shouldn't be a concern. ....just food for thought!!! enjoy your stay!!! Cheers!

Wow your talking Adventourist! How Exciting! I have stayed at Turkey Creek and it would be very convenant to US and IOA and Seaworld. I just don't know about tenting there. I think I would be more comfortable at Disney for security reason and FW is a whole lot cleaner. Don't get me wrong I like Turkey creek and if I was staying in a camper I would stay there. Good Luck!

Why not just stay at the Fort?
Use that as your home base.
because i can't really afford to be paying $80 dollars a night just to pitch a tent.

I will be prepared for cold weather but i don't think it will be to much of a problem. Being from the UK im used to the cold so im not to worried about it being to cold. I did look into the rv rental option, but it would be costing me more again and also i don't drive.

That is my only worry about turkey lake, the security. Having stayed at TL what would you say the security is like? Just wondering why you would say you wouldn't know about tent camping there?

There is a site called rvparkreviews.com that should give you realistic reviews of campgrounds in the Orlando area.

I only stayed ther once and I was in a camper so I'm trying to remeber the ten sites. It is a nice campground and for the price I would try it. I beleive that it is gated so you have to have a code but I'm still not sure how secure your stuff would be. So if you have real valuables keep them on you or see if thye have lock boxes at the office. It's a pretty big campground but not as modern at Fort Wilderness. It's clean I have seen a lot worse. One of my clients said it was the best kept secret of Orlando. You may want to get a reservation.

I think i am going to book a reservation at Turkey Lake tomorrow. I'll ask if they have lockers when i call. If not i'll just make sure i take all valuables with me when i leave the site. Seems like too good of a deal to turn down at the price considering how close it is to Universal. At the moment i'm thinking 12 nights in Tropical palms, then 12 nights in Turkey lake, and my last night in a Disney Hotel and then get the Magical Express to the airport.

thanks, i'll check it out.

We've stayed at many of the sites throughout the FW Campgrounds, but like the 300 loop the best. Walking distance to the lake, and a pet loop too. Sometimes it's a bit tight maneuvering into the sites, but the more I do it, the better I'm getting at it.
