We are a family of four and originally I was thinking deluxe oceanview with verandah would be enough room. now I'm thinking 214 square feet may feel a little cramped. Trying to decide if I should upgrade it to the family deluxe room that has 50 more square footage. Is it more comfortable and can you notice that it's bigger? We are planning to traveling on the Magic in november

You will notice it is bigger because you will also get a chair in the room in addition to the couch. That being said, it depends on the ages of your kids. We have a 16 year old son which takes up more room :)
I do prefer the bigger rooms but it isn't a deal breaker for us at all if we either don't want to pay the price difference between the smaller and bigger room or if there are not any in a location that we want. I am not a fan of directly below the pool deck.
If you have younger kids, I think the smaller room would be plenty of space.
Have a great trip!

I think you will notice the extra room. The extra space has the chair and another pull down bed. I would think the value to someone is in the family dynamics. Our family likes to have a little extra elbow room. Hopefully you will have so much fun you will hardly notice either way:hippie:

Actually the extra space has EITHER a pull down (Murphy) bed OR a chair:

Wow, I never had a room that slept 5 and now I am glad, I really love the extra chair. I would be bummed to not have that. Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you Shmoo. Of course. With the bed down there wouldnt be enough space.

is there a way to know which of the rooms has the murphy bed?
we're only four in a room, but none of us would want to be in the upper bunk, so the murphy bed would be great!

I've never found an easy way to find out which cabin has which setup...but I have no doubt that someone on the site has.

I've heard that if you try to book a room for 5 people and are not allowed to, it means that the room doesn't have the murphy bed for the fifth person. If you can book for 5, then it has the extra bed. So, you could make up a fifth person and try booking, verify which rooms are available, then switch back to a reservation with just 4 to book.

Don't forget another reason for not being allowed to book 5 in a deluxe would be if the lifeboat station could not accommodate 5
