True Blood Question

I have just started watching True Blood. I don't have HBO so I'm renting Season 1 at Blockbuster's (I'm at episode 6 - so no spoilers please).

I really enjoy the show so I was thinking of ordering the Sookie Stackhouse box set from Amazon. So, here's my question, book 1 (Dead until Dark) seems to be season 1 so, is the second book season 2? If so, should I wait to read the books until I can watch season 2.

Get the books!

The HBO series veers WAY off path from the books, so you'll get a few "spoilers," but in the future series on HBO you don't know what's going to be incorporated and what isn't.

The HBO series has made more of certain characters from the books, too.

From the description on Amazon, it seems like season 2 follows the second book.

Yes, get the books! There are still so many surprises with the show after reading the books. The series "seems" to be following the books in order, but very loosely. There are things that I think I know what's going to happen, but the show changes it.

Now I just have to decide whether I want to wait for Season 2 (and 3 and 4) and be surprised by the plot or just go and get the books...hmmm

I haven't watched the series yet (like you, I'll be renting it when I get the time!), but I have read all the books. It may be different for you since you're already into the series/plot, but I (and a lot of my reader friends) struggled through book 1. I literally gave it back to the friend who loaned it to me and said I wasn't going to be able to get through it. I'm glad she told me to give it another chance, 'cause the other books are GREAT.

In conclusion, if you struggle with the first one a bit, don't worry about. Soldier on!
