Tropicana or Best Western Plus Park Place Inn?

WDW veterans traveling out west to DL for the first time on 03/08-03/12. I'm basically asking about these two properties because they are across the street from DL and are the only ones with rooms available for my dates. I've seen some reviews on Expedia, Trip Advisor, etc., but I would like some of your input.

How about park crowd levels during that week? I know that much/most of California schools don't have Spring Break until the week(s) after. in advance!!!!!

I haven't stayed at the BWPPI but I really liked the Tropicana when we stayed there last summer. It's nothing fancy at all, but clean and comfortable. And if I remember, right, they charge for parking but not an additional "resort fee" unlike some of the other Harbor hotels.

ETA: I remember why we have never stayed at BWPPI. To get two queens there, you have to upgrade to a suite and no one in my family sleeps if we don't have two queen beds.

There is a huge convention (Natural Products Expo) that weekend, which is why hotels are so limited. I would expect that weekend to be very busy and then trickle off a bit, although that is the beginning of spring break season. The main difference between those two hotels is that BWPPI has breakfast and Tropicana does not. They both have many fans on the boards and either would be a fine choice. I wouldn't wait much longer to book, though. Hope you have a great trip/

I've stayed at both. Hubby and I preferred the BWPPI over the Tropicana.

In the end though, we are just needing a place to sleep, so I wouldn't rule it out totally but if I was forced to choose between the 2, definitely BWPPI.

On our next trip, we're going to give the Park Vue Inn a try, which is on the other side of IHOP.

We haven't stayed at the Tropicana, but we've stayed at BWPPI four times in the past two years. It's a basic motel type establishment, but it's clean, the staff friendly, and so close to the parks that we don't need a rental car. The tipping point for us between BWPPI and the Tropicana or Park-Vue is Best Western's rewards program. The more you stay, the higher up you move in membership levels, which increases the number of points you earn per stay. When we earn enough for a free night, we redeem the points in the form of a Best Western gift card which we can just apply to our hotel bill on our next stay. Also, my Discover card and Chase Freedom card give me the option of redeeming their reward points for Best Western gift cards. Discover offers a $50 gift card for $45 in points. Last year, we paid for half of one stay's hotel bill with gift cards accumulated through rewards programs.
