Trixie Belden fans, post here!

I can't believe that there are so many other Trixie fans out there! I began reading Trixie when I was in about third grade (1983-84). I loved her and the other Bob-Whites!

None of my friends read Trixie then so I have been alone in my love of these books for ages. I didn't even know that anyone remembered these books until I went on EBay and found a TON of them. I bought several from EBay, but I wish I could find my old ones.

My favorites were The Mystery of the Headless Horseman and The Mystery of the Queen's Necklace.

I LOVED the Queen's Necklace too! I loved them in England, and the whole "Maroon Saloon" thing, remember that?
I loved it that Trixie had money problems, too and wasn't always sure if she could go on a trip or get a new swimsuit, etc. The others had a self-imposed money restriction, but the Beldens were always on a budget. That made them more real.

A publisher has recently been re-releasing the Trixie series, in a new cover for this generation. I hate the cover art though. Trixie looks like an out-dated revamping of an OLD book. They should have spent more money & thought on the cover art. What girl wants to read that book when Hillary Duff as Lizzie Maguire is sitting right next to it on the shelves?

I'm not saying Trixie is, or needs to be cool & hip like Hillary, but, geez, they could have gotten an art layout that is as fresh-faced as a modern day Ivory soap gal.

Even Emma Watson, who plays Hermione in the Harry Potter movies, with frizzy hair & no make up, running around the woods, said she loved being Hermione in the last movie because she's so modern, being all "Girl Power" & spirit wearing jeans [dungarees] through the woods.

Trixie is all that! They could have created a cover to appeal to girls who want to read & be like that. :sad2:

They were probably trying to make a cover that would appeal to the die-hard fans by looking retro, but updating the clothing styles a bit and brightening the colors to please the younger group. And by trying to please everyone, they pleased no one.

But I have to say, at least these are better looking than the crappy thin hardbacks they put out in the 70s or the bright yellow ugly artwork paperbacks they put out in the 80s (not the cool cream colored ones with the ovals on the front that came first--those looked pretty good)! It's been a long time since poor Trixie looked the way she deserved.

WHAT A GREAT THREAD!!

I just loooove the Trixie Belden books. I guess my fave would be the Mysterious Code, but I love all of them. I would even memorize some of Mart's quotes with those big words, and use them on my brothers (even if I didn't know what they meant!) :rotfl:

I did like Jim. He was really safe (sweet *and* rich.) But Dan is the one who really flipped my skirt. He had that whole edgy "bad boy" thing about him that seemed so daring to my 10-year-old mind!!

One thing that always bothered me about the series was that they gave two different explanations in at least two different books for how Honey got her nickname. (Wasn't her real name Madeline?) One was that it was because of her hair color, and the other was because she used to call everyone "Honey."

Guess what I had? A RED SATIN JACKET!! It was a hand-me-down from an older cousin, and it was priceless to me because I would pretend that is was one just like the Bob-Whites wore. If I could have found someone to cross-stitch my name on it, I would have been in heaven! :cloud9:

Remember Tom and Cecile?! The perfect little couple! And what was the name of the guy who owned the "pie-shaped" piece of land in the middle of the Wheeler estate? The one they thought was a poacher...when I read that book I didn't even know what a poacher was...I just figured with the way they acted, it was something reeeaaaly bad!

I also loved Nancy Drew (my favorite was Bess), the Jupiter Jones books, Encyclopedia Brown, the Katie John books, the Heidi books, the Bobsey Twins, the Dana Girls, Ballet Shoes, The Secret Garden...I could go on for days.

Another Trixie-ite! They keep coming out of the woodwork. Have to reveal myself as the nerd I truly am--the other reason she was called Honey besides her hair color was not that she ever called others Honey, it was because of her "sweet disposition." :earboy2: The non-poacher was Mr. Maypenny.
I would have killed for your red satin jacket!!

Loved Mr. Maypenny, but my favorite of the older characters was Mrs. Van der Poehl (sp?) and all those cookies she made for the Bob-Whites. The one about the antiques show was one of my favorites.

Today I am cleaning out my children's rooms while they are at camp and every time I walk by the bookshelf in the hallway I see all 39 of them winking at me. Very tempted to sit down and start reading them all again, something I do every few summers!!!

Gleeps! You're right! ;)

I love Trixie books, too! I had some of the original "hard" backs, but somewhere along the line they were lost or loaned out and never returned. I do have the set in softcover. My daughter read a couple, but never got into them like my friends and I did.

We grew up in a small town and had horses, so always thought we were Trixie and Honey and the rest. There were a couple of old abandoned houses in the country that we used to ride by and since we were about an hour from our state capitol, we would always hope that something would happen in one of those houses--fugutives, bank robbers, etc. What dreamers we were!

:cloud9:

Oh my goodness, I haven't thought about Trixie Beldon in years! I have a couple of the books somewhere in a box, but I bet I checked out everyone the library had when I was a kid - at least three times each! My favorite was when they went to a ranch in New Mexico (??). I don't know which I liked better: Trixie Beldon or Nancy Drew.

I'm surprised my Mom hasn't posted on here yet. She got me reading these when I was in elementary school. I've started buying the new set (and reading them) to start my collection for my daughters. The oldest is 5 now, just a few more years and she'll be ready!

My favorite was the one set in Arizona, and I actually did end up living there when I was in junior high. I can't look at silver jewelry without thinking about painting clear polish on the back to prevent a rash! I probably only read 15 or so of them, but I'll get to them as our collection grows now. The Red Trailer Mystery was just as great to read a couple months ago as it was in 1979.

 I love Trixie! I can't believe there are so many Trixie fans on the DIS. I was in love with Jim from the first book... and then I married a Jim!

Didn't Brian (Brain, lol!) buy his jalopy from Mr. Maypenny?

I collected the first 31 (or 32?) books, 2 of them older hardcovers, and saved them but my children have no interest in them. I'm guessing they'll go on Ebay  , I just don't have room to keep hanging onto them. My daughter has no taste in books, doesn't like mysteries at all.

My favorite was the one where they traveled to Virginia to find the civil war mansions. Many years later, I ended up commuting daily through the area that they were supposed to have found the ruins of the two mansions, and I wished I had the books around to pinpoint what town!

Just found this thread tonight - I too am amazed there are this many Trixie fans on the DIS! Of all the books I had as a child, my Trixie books are the only ones I saved. Fortunately, my daughter has enjoyed them as much as I did. I only had the original 16, but we've added a couple of the newer ones. And I still enjoy re-reading them!

Did anyone ever read any of the Donna Parker series? There weren't many - I think maybe 4 or 5, but really liked them. Unfortunately, gave them away and they're a lot harder to find than Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew.

I didn't read the Donna Parker series, but they're on EBay :goodvibes .

When my children want to mock me, they always say, "Gleeps, Moms" because I tried to make them read my Trixies and they just weren't into them the way I was. I really loved trixie!!!

Another Trixie fan here. I grew up way out in the country here in Louisiana. We couldn't wait for the bookmobile to run every 2 weeks. I would be out in front hours ahead of time waiting. When I meet my DH and he took me to meet his DM guess what - she was the Bookmobile Lady! How could I not say yes? :lovestruc

What in the world was this thread doing waaaay back on page 8?!

There have to be more Trixiefans out there...Bob White! Bob White!

I can't believe I just found this thread! Last week I climbed to the top of my closet and got out my Trixie Belden books....again!

Loved them and still reread them occasionally....don't have the "complete" set cause the price of the last 2 on e-bay is ouchie.

Also like Cherry Ames, the Boxcar Children, the 3 Investigators, Encylopedia Brown. Yep I was always the kid with their nose in a book.

Anyone else found the Trixie fan fiction that is kinda scary? Gleeps! What would Moms say?

Was always the big Regan fan...even as a kid!

Anyone for Trixie trivia? What color was Trixie's new swimsuit that she got for the trip to Cobbet's Island?

PS...I was young enough my Mom had to explain what a girdle was when I read about it!

Wasn't it blue to match her eyes?!

My turn...what color were Di's eyes?
