Okay, I have navigators and kids programming at my desk for 3-4 and 5-7 groups. Feel free to ask any questions. I'm putting our land and sea details all in this thread.
Day one
Arrive in Orlando. Kids doing okay but getting a bit cranky. Get the car, drive to Disney while looking for a grocery store. Get into Disney property and have still not seen a grocery store. Made DH turn around, and got completely lost in Orlando, wound up in outlet mall area and asked for nearest grocery store. Directed to Super Walmart, got there, kids asleep in car! DH went and got groceries (fruit, bread, pb, cereal bars, chips, water and beer)
Checked in at CBR at 3:00- kids still asleep in car. Check-in very smooth, drove to room and kids were awake. Dropped the luggage, grabbed a camera and some bottles of water and headed out to MGM even though AK was a late night, we felt that AK would be better in a morning.
First camera shot at MGM discovered digital camera batteries were dead and we hadn’t unpacked the back-up ones. DH turned around and went to camera store, snarky CM (our only bad experience) told him that we’d need to buy double A batteries off-site, as Disney was sold out. ??? I found them at the next concession. $6! But what can you do?
MGM was a blast, kids loved the big hat, the muppet show, meeting Mike/Sully (whichever is the big blue one) from Monsters Inc, and Fantasmic. So glad we stayed for the show.
Got back to CBRt and picked up a late dinner at the Port. Decent cafeteria style food, some good salad selections.

What we’d do differently- Glad we bought groceries, I wouldn’t buy as much next time and would look at that on-line delivery service. Buying bread and pb and some fruit was good, chips were a waste really as the bags were too big to take to park, too greasy as a snack at night.
Should have bought 24 bottles of water/beer instead of 12, we went through them all and spent another hour on the day of cruise having to stop and buy water and beer.
Should have brought a stroller. My kids are not “walkers” (4 and 5) and for 4 days strollers would be around $50 in the parks, and we really needed them from the tram to the car, from the car to the hotel room, etc. If your kids are not walkers, consider buying a decent umbrella stroller and just selling it after the trip. I don’t have a double umbrella style and should have bought one for this. But the strollers at Disney ARE great. And the lines were not bad at all.
Tickets we purchased were on the old system, which meant we got 4 days from the day we arrived to the day we checked out. We were not able to add the non-expiry option to them. So we had to make a decision to either lose part of the day on the ship, or lose a part day in the park. Kind of a bummer. I asked if I could pay more $ to use the last day after the cruise, but they said not able to do it with our type of ticket.
Bring a pen for autographs. DOH!
Rented a stroller, even for only 2-3 hours. It would have been worth it!
What worked- Would stay at Disney, however might stay at a value instead of a moderate if the price is that much better. We never once even looked around CBR, too busy with the parks. The little we saw was nice, we just were hardly ever there! Apparently they have a great kid’s play area… we never saw it!
Thanks to the poster who suggested using a scrapbook for the autographs. It worked wonderfully and now I can put the pictures right around their names.
DH and I each having our own camera (him digital, me not) worked GREAT. We each took pictures based on what we wanted and there were surprising few duplicates.

Day Two
VERY Cold day in Florida! We woke up and headed to the Contemporary for an 8:00 breakfast. Unfortunately we did not look at the map properly and got lost and didn’t get to our PS until 8:30 but that was okay with them. Had breakfast and younger son FINALLY warmed up to the characters, but it took a while. Food was okay, service was excellent. Characters coming around was okay, the boys felt they didn’t stay long enough and Minnie never came around. $72 for 4 including tax and tip. One expensive breakfast!
Spent the day at Magic Kingdom, used Fast Pass for the longer waits and had a lot of fun. Had to buy a sweatshirt at the first store, I was so cold. Bummer since I found ones we liked better further into the park. We had a late lunch there and left at 7:00 to go to Olive Garden. Kids were cold, as were we. Younger son fell asleep at dinner, thankfully after eating. When we got back there was a message from DCL saying that we needed to go to the reception in the morning between 8-11 to drop off our forms and pre-clear for the boat. It was hard to tell by the message if it was optional or not so we decided to be there at 8:00, even though we had planned to be at AK for the early start. Note- she had said only one adult needed to be there but they did need both of us after all, so plan accordingly.

What we’d do differently: I wouldn’t do a character meal again. I know most people love them, but our kids really didn’t and we found we saw the characters everywhere in the park anyway.
Other than that, I’d order a sunny day instead of 50 degrees, or at least remember to pack a sweatshirt for myself so that I didn’t have to buy one at the park. :-) :flower: :sunny:

Day Three
Sun! Yea!!!. Went to do forms for DCL at 8:00, took longer than anticipated and didn’t get to AK till almost 9:00. Saw a Bug’s Life and then went and had breakfast at Tuskers. Note, if you get there and the outside window has a long line up, peek indoors. The line inside was MUCH shorter. Meal there was probably best value for $ we had at Disney.
Went to Dinoland, the kids didn’t want to leave the bone park. They loved the sand pit and digging for bones, but we didn’t stay there that long since some little ones were throwing the sand around, and I didn’t want the boys to be covered in sand for the rest of the day. Found the musical bones, kids could have spent hours there.
On the way out of dinoland spotted the Pooh/Tigger/Eoyore meeting spot. Total magical experience. Kids loved it, we didn’t feel rushed at all.
Did the dinasoar ride, DH lost his two way radio on the ride. Told the photo desk and they located our cart (based on our picture they took), called down and asked us to come back in 10 minutes. When we did they returned it to us. Just one example of why disney does it best.
Had lunch and then watched the jungle parade. Then went to see the Lion King show…. WOW! Also saw a family act of contortionists performing near Africa (I think), they were phenomenal.
Left AK at around 5:00 and headed back to the room to grab more water. On the way realized that my older son’s KTTW and panicked. When to hotel reception and they replaced it in less than 1 minute. Great service.
Arrived at MK and immediately went to Haunted Mansion after picking up a stroller. Younger son did not want to go in, so DH and older son went in and I headed to Fantasy land to get a fastpass for peter Pan ride, but all were gone and the line-up was 1.5 hours! Went back to Haunted Mansion and sprinkled some pixie dust for a family whose daughter had had an accident on while waiting for their friends and they didn’t have any pull-ups, so gave her one of ours. Younger son fell asleep in stroller and we had a quick bite, he work up at the end of the meal and wanted food, so back in line and then waited for him to eat. 7:40 by that point so we headed back to Fantasyland and the wait for Peter Pan was only 10 minutes! So we went on and then headed back to watch the fireworks, which were great. Didn’t get a view of the show, but the kids loved the fireworks. And we couldn’t believe how quickly we were able to leave, even with all those people we were back at CBR within a ½ hour!

What we’d do differently:
We’d do dino-land after lunch and let the kids play for at least an hour. Other than that, perfect day.

Day Four
Sunny again! Headed to DDD at 9:00 but realized that you didn’t need passed to get in, so instead went to Epcot. Superbowl Sunday and it showed. No crowds whatsoever. Raced around Epcot, loved the inventors section and the Honey I Shrunk the Audience ride, kids were experts in 3-D glasses by then. Went to the living seas section and spotted the real life Nemo and Dory fishes and oohed over the dolphins. Saw half of the country exhibits (up to Italy) before we had to leave. Took the boat across the pond and headed to the car and to Cape Canaveral.
Note, if you need to buy water do so before you get to CC, there was nowhere around there to buy it and we had to drive another 15 minutes to find a store that would sell us a case.
Boarded at 3:00 and walked right on, it was great not to have to fill out anything and we had our KTTW already. Hubby just had to drop off passport and b.c. for the kids since they are not US citizens. Other than that very smooth.
Dropped of the carry-on luggage at the room and ran upstairs to register kids for the clubs and get food for the kids. All they wanted to do was get into the pool. Had the drill at 4:00 (short and sweet) and then DH brought the kids up to the pool while I unpacked. We departed around 5 and the waves were HUGE. Everyone on the ship was walking as if they were drunk, quite funny.
Dinner seating was Animator’s for 2 nights, then Parrot Cay, then Triton’s. Decided not to do Palo’s. Servers were Alit (from Bali), Zeljka (pronounce Jelka- from Croatia) and head server Michelle (from Australia). Animator’s was fine- the kids enjoyed it and while I agree that the food was not gourmet it was good and the wait staff was very attentive. I did not expect gourmet food so was not disappointed. One thing that made me giggle is seeing a grilled sirloin steak under the “lighter” options. :rotfl2:
Saw the Hercules show while DH went to watch superbowl in Diversions. He regretted that, it was WAY too smoky for him, he’s an ex-smoker too! He met us after the show and we put the kids to bed. Early night!

What we’d do differently- Have I mentioned that we should have brought a stroller? Or at least rented one at Epcot, there is A LOT of walking there.

What we did right- packed all the dirty and park clothes in a suitcase and left it in the car.
Had the daycare give me a letter saying that my younger son would do well in an older group. The CMs allowed me to put my almost 4 yr old into the 5-7 program on a trial basis and it went fine. I think the fact that I brought the letter for them made them more comfortable.
Suction cup hooks for the shower!!!! What an awesome idea, thanks DISers.
Request to be at a table with another family. It was just us, which was nice BUT it would have been nice to meet another family.
Edit to add- I brought water shoes (from Walmart, the kind that look like mocassins) for the kids. They could wear them in the pool and on deck and never slipped. A great idea.

Day Five
Docked in Nassau…. Sunny and warm! Had breakfast in Triton’s since they were doing Eggs Benedict. It was good, just too fancy for the kids that early in the day. They really wanted to go to the kid’s clubs so we left them there and headed into Nassau. Walked around the port area, the Straw Market (some of the fake purses were really bad) and then picked up some flavoured rums and headed back to the ship. There were water taxis to the beach and to Atlantis but we really just wanted to relax on board. Had lunch and then picked up the kids and spent the afternoon at the goofy pool with the kids. It was windy but warm.
Kids played and then had a short nap before dinner. Pirate night! Dinner at animators was good, it might have been better atmosphere in Parrot Cay for the pirate dinner but we enjoyed it. Atil made the boys pirate hats. After dinner dropped the kids at the club (their request) and headed to the Mike Super magic show. He was great, I regret not taking the kids along. Picked up the kids (older one was very upset that after 9:30 was mat time, he did not like that part of the club so we never did the night again) and headed up to deck 9 for the Pirate Party. Of all the times for our video camera to jam! Party was great, kids were everywhere dancing…. So much fun. Little one was a bit scared of Captain Hook and insisted on being held. But it was a magical experience.
Off to bed!

What we’d do differently- nothing. Well, maybe we’d actually look at the map of Nassau and plan a route first, other than that, nothing.

Day Six-
Castaway Cay! Sunny, sunny day. Had breakfast on deck 9, then headed out to the beach for the day. Note that unlike docking in Nassau, you leave from Deck 2 for CC. Forgot sand toys. Looked at the little store and decided against buying. Mistake. By the time we went back all the cheaper, smaller shovels (2.50) were gone and we had to buy the $16 bucket. ARG! Lost DH and one son when they went ahead to get a spot on the beach. Note- only do this if you have 2 way radios, or if you remember to bring them to the beach. Otherwise you’ll do what we did, trudge up and down a beach 3 times looking and finally ask the lifeguard to page your lost party.
Lunch at CC was good, the ribs that got raves were (to me at least) fatty but good. The burgers were excellent. A good day at the beach. Was disappointed that I didn’t’ get a family shot of us from the shutters people, they were never around when we were all together. Did get a nice shot though of DH and the boys.
Back to boat and we all showered and changed when I realized that we were 1 hour earlier than I had thought (trying to get to see Aladdin at 5:30) so I sent DH and the kids to explore a bit and packed all the dirty clothes and anything we were not wearing/using in the next 2 days into a suitcase.
Saw Aladdin, had dinner at Parrot Cay. Alit was very good about me changing the main entrée around (I wanted only lamb and shrimp for the mixed grill, and sweet potatoes instead of rice). DS finally clued in that our wait staff was following us around! Boys were falling asleep during dinner, we had to walk them around in between courses. Left early (skipped dessert) and went to line-up for a character. Before we left our wait staff gave us a certificate naming us their “disney dining experience” family with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and a couple of pins for our kids. You could tell they were disappointed that we hadn’t of stayed so they could present it a little better. Went to the Golden Mickeys- good fun, boys enjoyed it. Then to bed!

What we’d do differently- sand toys!
What we’d do the same- packing on that day made my next night MUCH easier.

Day Seven- at sea
Overslept! Missed Ash Wednesday services altogether. Spent the morning in the kid’s pool. Had lunch there . The kid’s had hotdogs and pizza. The pizza was gross but the kids liked it. We did the seafood buffet, I overdosed on crayfish. Yummy. DH did the sushi thing, he liked it. Kids were tired and needed a nap but wanted to go to kid’s club. Changed them and let them sleep until 2:30 then off to club for graduation. DH and I went to adult pool. Lots of empty chairs but they all had towels, and no one came back to them, but I didn’t want to move a towel so sat by the side of the pool. That really irritated me. (the leaving of the towels) Hung out until 4:30 then dashed back to shower before grad ceremony.
How cute is that whole thing? All the kids in their t-shirts and hats…. There were HUNDREDS of kids on stage. Very well organized.
DH got the kids, I finished getting ready then dressed the boys as it was Tritons. Forgot dress shoes and socks for DH, so he went in topsiders with nice slacks, shirt and tie. All pictures that night are ankles up!
Dinner at Tritons was good, less seafood than I expected, all restaurants seem to follow a common theme when it comes to the chicken/lamb/beef/seafood ratio on the menu. But meal was enjoyable and we had a b.d. cake for DS who turned 4 a couple of days after the cruise.
Went to Shutters and found our CC picture and our formal shot and bought those. Then went to Disney Dreams then to lobby for the Final Farewell. Kids were grumpy by then so went back downstairs to pack for that insane 11 pickup, but ran back upstairs for the 10:30 finale and to pick up the pillowcases and picture mattes.
What we’d do differently- try to keep the kids there for the final goodbye- that was a truly magical thing that they would have loved and I’m sorry we didn’t try harder to keep them there.
Ask guest services if more ‘heros” could sign the pillowcases. They are great (all black, the photo mattes they used the other colours I had left) but the boys really wanted Aladdin and Peter Pan, etc. to sign.
Pack DH some dress shoes and socks!
Label all film canisters with 2 labels, and rip one off when used. I had an unused roll of film in my bag and didn’t realize it.

What we’d do the same- pillowcases and photomattes- thanks again DISers!
Dress up for Tritons. The kids loved it and we got a nice family picture.

Day eight- Arrive back in Florida.
DH and sons had to go at 6:00 am for an immigration clearance (non-US citizens only) and to get passports back. The children had to go- we asked! He waited 45 minutes in line while holding children, by the time he was through people were just strolling in and not waiting. Went to Triton’s for breakfast and then disembarked.
Drove to Kennedy Space centre but too much $$ to get in, so we went to DDD and shopped for the afternoon, then headed home!

What we’d do differently- have I mentioned that we needed a stroller? Ever try to leave an airplane with 2 sleeping children when you are in the last row with 4 pieces of carryon luggage and 1 LONG walk to customs? And DDD seems a lot bigger when you are carrying a child around.
What we'd do the same- waiting until the last day to buy souvenirs at DDD was the right idea, especially since lots of the stores had buys a certain $ amount and get something like a lithograph, etc. And the kids got ONE thing each, so by that time they had seen everything and could make a decision. No cruise merchandise though, if you want that you have to buy on board.

that's all. Maybe too much information, probably not what everyone wants but if you have questions I'd be happy to help any way I can.

How Did You Like The Cbr? We Are Doing Land/sea In April With Our Two Girls Age 3 And 5, Sounds Like Your Kids Enjoyed The Kids Clubs.

Very interesting report. It almost felt like I was along with you! Or is that just my wishful thinking...

My dd5 and ds8 loved the clubs also, and sometimes against my wishes they spent a little too much time, until my dh reminded me that it was their vacaton also, and it was their idea of fun....

One thing I insisted upon was that we all ate breakfast together, and spent part of the afternoon swimming together, otherwise I do not think I would have ever seen them...

Hi Amy
CBR was fine, easy to navigate and get to the parks. but to be honest it was just a room to us, we NEVER walked around it at all. I didn't even realize that we were on the water until the last day! It's not luxurious, just a clean room with 2 doubles, which is all I really wanted. I don't know what the $$ difference is between a moderate and a value, but if the rooms are similar in size and if it is significantly cheaper (i.e. $20 or more/night) then I'd stay at a value next time.
Forgot to add that I'd totally recommend having a car. We rented one for $200 (including boosters and gas) and never had to wait around for the bus that only runs every 15 minutes. Plus we got to go into Orlando whenever we wanted.

Thanks, great report! I'm assuming that "mat time" at the kids club means that they have to stay on their mats and not run around and play after a certain time? If so, 8pm seems awfully early for that.

I've read that there are a lot of activities in the evenings at the kids club, which is why I'm thinking about the early dinner seating. What types of evening activities are there that we'd be missing withe the later dinner seating?

Thanks, T&B

Salut Depomas! I know how you feel. DS4 would have spent all day, everyday at the clubs. DS5 loved everything but the movies. But since we both work we wanted to be with them! That's why I'm glad we did the land and sea, it gave us lots of time with them before the cruise.

Thanks so much for the story of your trip! We did the L&S last year and like you loved it so much that we are going again this year. I believe others who end up reading your story -will understand better of how the flow of the trip really is! :flower:

Hi T&B- we did early seating. I messed up the times- the movies started at 9:30, I'll go back and edit that!
Using one evening for the 5-7 group-
5:00-5:30- slide time
5:45-6:30- dinner
6:45-7:15- stormin' the lab (computers, games, k-nex)-basically individual play.
7:15-8:15- "gases in action" in the lab (another night they made flubber)
8:15-9:15- Exploration time (same as 6:45-7:15)
9:30-1:00- movie time (Brother Bear and Monsters Inc were one night)

The kids had to stay on their mats but could sit up and chat with other kids. But DS5 just wanted to be on the computer or running around.

If you take your kids to the shows they'll miss the activities anyway, since the shows are at 8:30 for early seating diners and by the time they are done the kids are on mat time. All depends on whether you plan to go to the shows and take the kids.
Let me know if I can be of any more help.
cheers

thanks Littlemuffin and Disney Fans. I learned so much from these boards that I wanted to, in some small way, re-pay everyone here. I'm already socking away money for another trip. shhh, don't tell hubby where the fund is, he might spend it on power tools. ;)

I really enjoyed reading your trip report. Giving what you would do again and what you would do differently was helpful. I took notes.

thanks yazee, if any questions come up please let me know. I feel like I missed telling so much! Like how the night before you leave at 11:00 is NOT the right time to discover you are out of blank tapes for the video recorder.
enjoy your cruise!

Thanks! Seems that a person really needs to make a decision as to which activities/shows a child can take part in. I forgot--is early dinner seating 6pm? If so, I guess a child can go to "slide time" (what is that exactly?) then a quick dinner with the family. The could then go back to the kids club after their dinner (while the adults finish dinner) until 8:15 and then to a show with their parents. Does that sound doable?

I don't know how it would all fit together with a late dinner seating.

What happens in the kids club during the day? Didn't know if it's planned activities, free play, or a combination of both.

Thanks, T&B
