We had an amazing trip. Arrived at YVR three hours early, they checked our tests at check-in. We used Nexus cards and sailed through the other lines. The plane was completely full. When we arrived at LAX, it was nuts, there were people every where. Assuming it was so busy because it was a Saturday, everybody was on the floor sitting against walls etc. Thankfully when we got to car rental, some wonderful lady at Thrifty pulled my daughter aside who was using a crutch and gave us our car right away. Off we went to Anaheim! When we got to the hotel, the scooter had been delivered. Had a lovely meal at The Cheesecake Factory. We were using 2 yr old gift cards but had no problems. On the sunday we hopped around to our favourite stores and did all our shopping. We managed to find a scooter or wheelchair for my daughter most places. Masks were only required indoors if you were not fully vaccinated but we decided to wear them regardless.
Monday was our first day at the parks. It was cloudy then turned into a full rain day. Being from Vancouver, we were fully prepared. Thankfully we had nailed most rides in Disneyland in the morning before it started to pour. They closed several rides in the afternoon, if they were outdoors, like Alice, Storeybook, Dumbo etc.
We managed to hit all our fav rides at least three times each over our three days at the parks, including Rise of the Resistance. Because we had a scooter, we did have to line up differently in Disneyland. You went to the exit for most of the old rides, but what you do know is go and use your tickets to get a "return time". So it is like a fast pass, you can only have one at a time. The time was usually about 10-15 minute shorter time than the actual wait time of ride. So it was a little better but you still had to wait your turn. No lineups were more than an hour regardless while we were there, we usually had about 20-30 min wait.
We had our tests at WorkSiteLab.com in Long Beach near airport. It was about a 25 min drive. I booked them for 6am on the Tuesday. I was pissed off however when they called me late sunday to tell me the hours of that site had changed and our appts were now at 7am. In the end it worked out ok, we still made it back to park at hotel and got into park on time. It was a drive thru test, and you swabbed your own nose. Because we were first in the morning, we had the results by early afternoon, which was great.
The weather by tuesday was back to pure sunshine and hot weather, monday was the only blip. I decided to book a CVS Covid shot for Thursday, the day we were going home. I said it was my 2nd shot. When I arrived, she asked me for proof of my other shots, of course then she noted it was my 3rd shot. I just said I booked it that way because it is my 2nd Pfizer. She really didn't care much. She just hadn't given one to anyone with mixed doses. Once I told her that several provinces in our country had given 3rd for travel, she said no problem, and I got it. I had no reactions at all from it as well, just sore arm. In fact, I came home and on the Friday, I had my Flu Shot!!! Then I reffed 5 soccer games, so no reactions for either.
LAX was a bit of a **** show coming home, not sure why, but the Westjet people made you pull out your app, paperwork before you even joined the line. So it got crowded and confusing. Then they gave you an orange tag to hand to the check-in person. Once we did that, we had no issues. Arriving at YVR was nerve wracking. Customs wrote a big letter T on our print out. We were sure that we were going to get tested again. She also handed us a quarantine bulletin etc. Once we gave to printout to guard at exit, they told us to go to line B. Line A said Exit, ours went to the test line up. However, once through some guy offered to help my daughter with her luggage so we said are we getting tested, he said no you can exit. Very confusing... Yesterday I got a follow-up email from them saying "if" I was tested I needed to follow these instructions, if not ignore.
So glad we went on the trip. No regrets at all! Thanks everyone for all the advice here, it was super helpful to navigate putting it all together.
