Trick or treating in your area

Just had a lady dressed as a witch, probably mid fifties, no kids and with a man not in costume actually come ring the doorbell and say trick or treat and stuck out a plastic pumpkin. What do you do with that? I gave her a candy bar lol.

Awe. I would have assumed there was something else (dementia maybe) going on and just played along. Doesn't hurt anyone and at least she was in costume.

Trick or treat hours here are 4-7PM. We had about 150, which is more than we've had in previous years. I think last year we had about 35.

I see her and this man walking around the neighborhood, they are very friendly. I agree, doesn't hurt anyone :)

We don't get any. The houses are too far apart and no street lights. But neighboring areas do.

It's been years since anyone has come to our door. We do the "trunk or treat" events. Those kicked off at 5 or 5:30 tonight (6 for the ones over the weekend).

Dusk til whenever. Sometimes I turn out the light at 8, but DS is manning the door right now, so we're still going (8:25). On bag 12 of candy, generally 2-pieces per kid...how many bars are in a standard bag?

We get a fair amount. We go through a big bag of Costco candy (minus what the family inhales). We don't have official trick or treat hours. People tend to be out between dusk and 9:30ish, though we shut off lights by 9 for bedtimes.

Ours is 6-8 and we only get between 30 & 40 kids, so a few years ago we switched to the full size bars. The kids love it, they get so excited.

The snack size candy has really gotten chinzy of late hasn't it. I remember as a kid getting pillowcase full of nothng but big bars.

Ah, you're one of the legendary house my class talks about with awe ... all the full size candy bars passed out in the "rich" neighborhood! :)

Looks like we will hit about 70 tonight in my neighborhood. Trick-or-treat hours are 5 to 8 PM. I wish they didn't start until 530 or 6 PM and went a bit later so we could at least eat dinner first and so people could get home from work. I took the kids out starting at five and most people were not home yet. The kids then went out with daddy for an hour, stopped home to inhale some dinner, and headed back out (they are almost 6 and 8.)

Didn't count the kids, but it seemed to be mostly 9-12 yrs old groups. A dozen or so little kids. With giving 2 pieces per kid, we went thru 8 "fun" size bags. Just the normal size bags, not club size bags. So I'm guessing about 50 - 60 kids.

We don't have set hours here. Never heard of that before reading the DIS. We usually have about 300 kids come through but I think we are going to have a lot of leftovers this year. Crappy weather...plus our neighbors on either side don't have their lights on and we live across the street from a park and the street light over there is broken. Sad.

No hours, but usually it is over by 730 pm. And no moving it to Saturday night like some cities do.
We have had about 12 the last few years.
We had about 120 30 years ago.
Many of the folks on our street are the original owners of their homes, we're the new kids, been here 33 years. I think only 4 kids live on our street now, used to be 40. They have all grown up. Then we had a spike of Grandkids of neighbors coming by, now those kids are grown up.
It's 5:51pm now. Not a single one yet. Sunset isn't until 6:06 pm, but it is very cloudy, so getting dark already.

We are in an area where the houses are not real close together. T or T time is 6 - 8. I had one child. Only bought one bag of Tootsie pops so have most of them left.

All of the families, like mine, have adult children so not many little kids here. We used to have a lot 20-25 years ago..

It seems every year we get fewer and fewer kids. I live in a huge development, over 1000 houses all easily walkable, but we are on an older end where the kids are all teens and college aged now. The little ones from the other end of the development don't make it over here.
This year was depressing for me, my kids are both off to college, and having no trick or treaters made it feel like just another day.

We had about 200 kids between 6:30 and 8:30. Most kids came between 7:00 and 7:30. It was cold out, but not windy or rainy like the last few years.

We got our first group just after 6.00 and we heard crickets around 7.20. We had 20ish kids..
