Trick or treating in your area

I don't participate anymore. Too difficult with a dog who wants to run out the door and has doesn't like strangers. That coupled with adults NOT in costume made me stop.

When I did in the neighborhood we are currently in, we got 50 coming to the door, never could tell. Hours are in general 6p - 8p (nothing official, never heard of that until the DIS). I would turn the lights out at 8pm, never got too many after that anyway. Previous house was in the sticks and there were no Trick or Treaters.

I've been at work the last couple years so I'm not sure how many kids were out. Trick or Treating was 6-8 pm. My street is a mile long and don't thing any kids have ever gotten all the way down it.

A lot of local business districts around here have afternoon Halloween events. Participating businesses put out a standard sign.

I was at home today and then picked up my kid at school, where they had a Halloween party. I brought Halloween cookies. Then I took our kid out to one of these business districts. We didn't get a whole lot, since most had a limit of one piece, but it was fun and was during the daytime. A few prominent businesses (like a coffee place and the Apple Store) didn't take part.

We didn't buy too much. Some years maybe one kid shows up. Another year it was just our next door neighbors. So far I think 9-10 kids have showed up (it's 6:25 now) and I'm rationing our candy. My wife is going to take our kid out after dinner. There are some well known trick or treat neighborhoods nearby. I have no problem with my kid doing that. I used to live in a place where there weren't too many kids, but parents would drive their kids to the neighborhood. It felt good to have kids out there having fun, even if our neighborhood didn't have too many kids.

Most communities in our metro area have 5:30-8. I saw fewer than 30 kids this year. That's down a bit. Most kids here are aging out.

Well, turned on the outside light at 6:00. Neighbor's two kids showed up at 6:20. It's not 6:40 and no one else has come by.

It runs really busy or really dead in our development. Last year we had a bunch of trick or treaters. Used up my whole bag I got at Sam's club, as well as some smaller bags I had of my own stuff.

No set hours here that I'm aware of. Generally it seems to run 6-ish to 8. One year we turned off the light, brought in the Halloween decor outside around 8 and someone still was ringing the doorbell at 9.

UPDATE: It's now 7:15 and we've had a total of 11 kids.

No hours, but usually it is over by 730 pm. And no moving it to Saturday night like some cities do.
We have had about 12 the last few years.
We had about 120 30 years ago.
Many of the folks on our street are the original owners of their homes, we're the new kids, been here 33 years. I think only 4 kids live on our street now, used to be 40. They have all grown up. Then we had a spike of Grandkids of neighbors coming by, now those kids are grown up.
It's 5:51pm now. Not a single one yet. Sunset isn't until 6:06 pm, but it is very cloudy, so getting dark already.

6:45 pm now. We've had 1 trick or treater.

About 30 showed up, which is the norm. Most between 630 to 730. A trio of HS age teens were the last visitors about 830 pm.

We got about 65 - 70. Been about that many for several years. Used to get 100 - 120 back in the 90's. Must say the costumes were pretty inventive this year. Love seeing all the kids having fun!

We saw maybe 40 to 50 kids, less than usual, but it really varies every year and is unpredictable. No designated hours here and kids start when it's still light out, right after school, so around 3:30. Generally only the middle schoolers and teens are still going after dark, up until around 9:00.

3-7pm here are the official hours. Schools all have a 1pm early release. Weird to me...by the time it gets dark here, the kids are already in for the night. But I didn't make the rules and we've only lived here for 6 years, so.....when in Rome, right?! Doesn't seem to bother anyone here, and it seems that most people just leave work early or take the day off. More porch lights go on and the crowds do seem to multiply around the 5pm mark, though....so I'm sure people just start when they can.

DS10 wasn't feeling well (just was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance a few weeka ago and accidentally ate something he shouldn't over the weekend) so he stayed home and didn't want to ToT. He did the monsters on main street this weekend with his friends, which is basically ToT to local businesses in our village, aND he's never been a big ToT'er anyway, so he didnt even really care that he missed it.

Dd12 went with her friends - she put her costume together herself and didn't need me for anything, so that was easy. And DS16 had a football meeting after school until 5pm, so I picked him and a friend up from school after the meeting.

We didn't pass out candy. We live on sort of a "sidestreet" - there's only 5 houses on my block and we all face the side of the corner houses on the perpendicular streets, so most kids just bypass our block. And we had planned on being gone with DS10 since after this year he will be in middle school and will prob want to ToT with his friends after this. We were supposed to meet up with some of our friends and ToT together before DS got sick but those plans flew out the window.

We didn't turn our light on, and only got two doorbell rings. We just ignored them since we didn't have anything to give out.

ETA: Street location seems to be what makes the kid count hit or miss in my neighborhood. Interior streets that lead to more interior streets are always busier and the last streets before the busy roads get much less traffic. There is this one house (somewhat famous) that does a bang up job of decorating - it's so scary and creepy! - and attracts kids and people from miles away, so that whole block gets over 300 kids every year. It's nuts! And it's only two blocks from my street, but we don't even get any overflow.

Our town is 6-8. I had about 130 kids this year. Last year, I had 225 kids and a dog. Instead of candy, I gave out pretzels. The kids seemed to love them.

Wrapped things up about an hour ago...not many kids at all this year. Maybe 20 or 25? I think a lot of kids did Trunk or Treat/Light up the Night this year since it's a Monday and a school night. DH said the neighborhood where our kids met up with their friends was packed, but it's a big development. They came home with bags full!

I ended up with leftovers this year for the first time ever. Even after I ate a bunch while sitting outside waiting for trick or treaters, LOL!!

Our first trick or treaters arrived around 3:00- just after school got out and the last one came around 9:15. My daughter and her friends headed out around 8:00 and went until 9:30. We got a decent number this year, maybe about 150 or so. The last few groups I dumped handfuls in their bags-and we give out full sized bars so they made out well LOL. We did have a weird guy like 50 years old trick or treat (just him, no kids)- he must have been going all evening because he had a pillowcase full of candy- I gave him some, he may have been one of the local homeless guys so that candy may be his meals for awhile!

Here in Celebration we get a huge amount of trick or treaters. People come into town early to beat the traffic and get a parking spot. Waaaaay back in the further reaches of town where I live we barely get anyone. This year we were in the center of town with friends and counted over 1000 trick or treaters. The last ones came around 10. I can't believe there were so many on a Monday night! We had a blast. :)

Probably about 50 kids so far, but I'll keep the lights on until 10 pm, so a couple more hours to go.
Not many Disney costumes yet, what's up with that?

It's 5-8pm in our town on the Saturday before Halloween. We've been out trick or treating with our kids since we moved here and haven't been home--last year the neighbor across the street said we were the first family to stop by in 5 years. This year we saw a few other families out. Our street is mostly older couples and very slowly homes are selling with younger families like us moving in.

Trick or treat has been a marathon for me the past 2 years! The homes in are area are 2-4 acre lots with very long driveways. It's a lot of walking for the candy!

We live in the sticks but we had 3 ToTers. My nieces and nephew. I texted their parents and asked them to run by if they had the chance. It was fun even though they were the only ones. And our dog was excited. And apparently the neighborhood coyotes!

Turns out my wife didn't want to go out so I did. I had a rough idea of the area, but while walking someone suggested a specific street that was supposed to be THE PLACE. They said we couldn't miss it. I think some drove miles to get there, since it had a reputation. It was one house after another trying to outdo each other, some with lines out the door. The activity was going on well past 8 PM before we headed home and tried a few places in our neighborhood. The place my kid really wanted to go to turned off the porch lights before we got there, so we ended the night we visited our own house. Even so, there were still some homes still handing out candy at almost 9 PM.

No one comes up to my house unless they want to discuss religion.

When we do participate in trick or treating we have to go into town - which is acceptable in my town. We didn't bother last night.
