Like I said in the previous post, Saturday was the day of DS's 3rd birthday party! We got up nice and early thanks to DS waking us up at 6.

We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast, then went to pick up his birthday cake. This was the first year he actually understood what a birthday party was, and seeing the cake got him even more excited. We went home and let him play for awhile, knowing we would have to put him down for a nap earlier than usual so he could get a nice one in before the party. But he actually asked to go in his bed even earlier than we were planning on! He definitely understood that after nap = birthday party.
We had the party at a little pavilion in our neighborhood and it couldn't have been more perfect. My friend actually lives even closer to the pavilion than we do and let us use the refrigerator in her garage to store the cake and ice cream until we were ready to take it out for the party! We got everything set up and people started arriving right at 2 pm.
We kept it simple for food with pizza and snacks, so people started eating as soon as they got there. DS doesn't do well with eating when there are too many other fun things to be doing. But he surprised me by eating a whole slice. My friend from work was there, and she is the child life specialist at the hospital so her job is to play with the kids, help them through scary procedures, etc. Wouldn't you know, all the kids gravitated to her immediately!
There were only two other little kids DS's age there from daycare, but it worked out perfectly. The three of them had a BLAST together! There is a playground nearby the pavilion so they had a great time playing there too.
The little girl is one of his three daycare BFF's, so we were all really happy she came!
DH had made a a playlist of all the songs from both Cars soundtracks and the Planes soundtrack, so every once in awhile and song would come on and you could hear DS yell, "IT'S DUSTY CROPHOPPER!" And then the kiddos would all run to crowd around the stereo and dance.
Soon it was time for cake! It came out SO amazing! I sent the girl a photo off of Pinterest and she did a beautiful job recreating it for us.
After cake and ice cream, we did the pinata. It was supposed to be a pull string pinata where one of the strings would open the flap for the candy, but it didn't work. lol We had to just rip it open and let the candy fall for the kids.
Of course, since we have had what didn't fit in the pinata sitting in our candy bowl at home, DS didn't waste any time trying to grab all the chocolate and leave the Smarties and suckers for the rest of the kids.
I did eventually have him put some back so the other kids could have chocolate too!!
Then it was time for presents!

Here's one of the birthday banner I made on my Cricut. I was pretty proud of how it turned out, and it held up really well!
The day wasn't entirely perfect...a rainshower did roll through and brought the intense humidity out at the end of the day. Of course, the first year I had his party outside was also the first year it rained on his party day! But we were lucky we had that pavilion and just piled under until it passed over.
We all had a great time, especially DS! I think it was his most fun birthday party to date!
