I am not into this at all (I like most dogs but am unfortunately allergic to them) mainly because of the cleaning/housekeeping issues; also somewhat because of the potential noise issue since resort soundproofing is already so lacking. More generally speaking, it is also a problem that Disney CMs don't enforce policies that require confrontations with guests and this would potentially just be yet another of those problems. However, I could be wrong but I have a hard time seeing a huge impact, as in that there will now be tons more dogs on property. I can't imagine most people would think it is smart or fun to bring the family dog on a WDW vacation.

I also think it's strange that a place that bends over backwards for food allergies doesn't seem quite as responsive to environmental allergy concerns.

We are probably going to be doing the exact same thing. My travel agent is trying to find us another room on property but it’s been several hours and I haven’t heard back from her. If we can’t be moved, we will definitely cancel and stay off property. This is for our January anniversary trip at POR.

We have also decided not to renew our AP’s. We are stuck with our YC stay in November, as my husband has already paid for a continuing education conference and there are no refunds for the conference. We have emailed Disney about our dissatisfaction but have not received a response. They will no longer be receiving our money in the future. We are mostly upset because we were not given enough notice so we could have changed our plans or conference site. Now we are stuck.

Beach Club is full for the conference rate as well, I’ve already checked......

I'm going next month with just my 9 year old and staying at Pop so this stay is no worry. But I was hoping to book a Bounceback before we leave for our family of 5 at POR in the spring. With CBR under heavy construction and the food court/restaurant still likely closed we will probably just go offsite to someplace like Bonnet Creek. I'm not happy with that at all as we are definitely an onsite family. I might have splurged on the cabins or AoA suites with a good deal, but they are also dog friendly resorts now. I'm really upset.

If they limit this to certain hotels I now know what ones to avoid. Most people will follow the rules but everyone knows what is going to happen, some people will ignore it and one dog bite later the Disney lawyers will be earing their money.

I just wanted to say that I have an upcoming stay at one of the affected resorts (POR) and still haven't received any notice from Disney at all directly. If I was a casual vacationer (dare I say: average disney-goer) I still wouldn't even know about the change in policy. This, to me, is unacceptable.

And this is definitely worth a mention to Disney and the executives. I'd be furious if I booked a trip, especially if it was a resort I'd been to before and knew it was pet-free, and showed up to find I was now sharing my resort with dogs. I'm not sure why some people are getting this info and other's are not. The people booked in these resorts should have been the first to know.

Do I like this idea? No. Do I like how our favorite resort has taken half of Magnolia Bend for Royal Rooms and now X amount for dogs? No. Am I glad that we switched to AKL with free dining for our upcoming December trip? Yes. The part I really don't like is the short notice. Our family just knows now to avoid those resorts in the future. Just thankful we switched.

It's kind of depressing to read posts comparing a desire not to have to deal with allergies and phobias at WDW to not wanting to wait long times for rides and character meets. ...Posts using exaggeration to misrepresent genuine concerns from people. ..And, generally, posts completely disregarding the real reasons for concern from people who don't have the luxury of choice in this matter.

It's not a sense of entitlement to want to vacation without the stress and grief this can bring. Feeling well, safe and at ease is not a privilege compared to the added extra of taking a pet to a resort.

There have been so many repeated replies explaining why even a few (not millions) dogs can be a big problem and, anyway, why there are likely consequences beyond pets just being hidden away in corners of resorts. Consqeuences we've encountered elsewhere and have a pretty good idea what we're talking about.

One dedicated pet resort would be a different matter.

Universal has a written policy dogs not to be left unattended. You state that you were allowed to do so and for the record I totally believe that’s what you were told.

Gee I wonder where people get the idea that the stated rules will be broken?

This really is frustrating. For years and years I have had to fight for my rights at Disney and other places like universal. While others seem to just are allowed to do what they want.

1) three years ago, Disney told me to bad for me because they had no way to let me on rides that restrict my service dog, I either had to pay for a companion to come or skip any ride that the dog was not allowed on. Once sued they put kennels in place, and I still fight for equal assess, a year ago June it took me 2 hours to ride space mountain with a fast pass because the person who could use the kennel refused to come and watch the dog. Last May I spent 5 days not allowed to ride space mountain because someone stole the kennel and they had to order a new one.

2) four years ago Disney tried to bill me for extra cleaning in a resort room my guide dog was in, $200, I told them I had a guide dog, and asked if there was any damage, no no damage they found dog hair and wanted to charge me for the extra cleaning, against ADA.

3) most of Disney is wonderful with my service dog but a few places I refuse to go because of how we are treated, like 1900 Park Ave, once seated the manager stood at the pole 5 ft from the table and refused to stop steering at the dog the hour we sat to eat. If Disney can not put up with a service dog, what will happen to regular dogs.

4) a dog I. The room. Every policy Disney has states I am not allowed and I have always been reminded of this, to leave the dog in the room. I said I would never post this but now that Disney is changing its policies here goes. I have a $60000 trained service dog from Guiding eyes for the blind in NY. Last year in June I wanted to take my granddaughter on the animal kingdom tour that lets you feed giraffes and such. None and I mean none of animal kingdom tours allows you to take a service dog. It took working with Disney 6 months to come up with solutions to allowing my grandbaby to go on the tour with me for her 11 th birthday.and believe me I appreciate everything the CM did to help me get there, but it furiates me that a year later, any dog can be left in a room. It took no less than 50 phone calls. It took me having to book a room at animal kingdom lodge jambo house. It took at least 20 CM working together to pull this off.

I woke up and took the dog out, went to the breakfast at bomas, with the dog, part of the tour. The tour guide then waited as I took the dog potty and brought her to the room, where I meet the manager of jambo house, who watched as I put the dog in the room. I told them that the dog is well trained and would not need to go potty but they checked on her every hour for four hours and also did take her out once but she did not go potty.

Now one year later, any dog can be left in a room for hours without any problem with Disney, than why just one year ago was it such a problem.

5) I have tried for years to get access to the dog kennel near POR, I can't so rather than accommodate just one guess they are going to flip and now accommodate 1000 and take more away from me. Disney for years have told me I can use the kennels. Yes but haw does a blind person get to the kennels, they don't have buses. They don't have pick up services, which would be a much better plan than allowing all dogs in all rooms.

6) Disney buses can not accommodate dogs, even a service dog has a hard time and we do buses daily at home, Disney buses are a lot more crowded, have no safety for dogs, my home town buses have separations under the seats, at Disney my dog slides from one side of the bus to the other. If I have to rely on buses at night, I have to wait an hour or more after park close or the buses are to full for us to ride safely.

Ugh, I work so hard for equal access and once I start to finally get it, Disney says well it works for these service dogs let's have all dogs come and try it. It is a total slap in the face for those of us who need equal access.it also has damaging effects on us also, when this does not work, service dogs will not be treated nicely. I think right from the beginning I will be treated as I was 10 years ago by Disney. I will be stopped as I walk into the restaurants, I will be stopped as I enter the pools, I will be stopped as I enter the parks. Is that a service dog, and then more questions, most of my vacation will be about answering the questions about my dog and about this new policy. I will have to hear from CM as to why they had to stop me, and how they had 50 or 100 dogs a day trying to get into the parks, or how 20 rooms are now demolished because the dogs chewed or peed or pooped in them. How more rooms have fleas than bed bugs.

If they are going to do this, and believe me I think it is the worst idea in the world, than they should I force that all dogs other than service dogs have a spot at the kennel during the day and not be allowed to stay in the rooms.

Ugh, I am just so frustrated and then Disney CM just give whatever story sounds the best. I hope and pray the idea is meet with Disney greed, start with the $50 a night and like most things Disney raise it to $100 by next month and then enforce that the dogs must be at the kennels during the day which is another $40 or $50 and for most people, $140 to $150 a night will make them think twice before they bring a dog to Disney.

Again ugh, ugh, ugh.

There are so many comments on this thread but very few from anyone who is actually planning to bring their dog to WDW. As I have posted earlier - within hours of seeing this announcement I contacted my travel agent to book us a cabin at Fort Wilderness. We had stayed with our previous dog twice at Portofino Bay hotel and had talked about taking our new dog again at some point.

While at Portofino, despite being in the dog friendly room, I would never have noticed that a dog had been in their previously. Their rooms were immaculate. I am also allergic to dogs and cats (we have a first generation golden doodle so no problems) and have stayed in many pet friendly hotels and have never had a reaction. (I do understand severe allergic reactions as I had one myself over 30 years ago and went into anaphylactic shock and nearly died). There were other dogs there during both of our trips but we never paid them much attention. I also never heard any dogs at night.

We want to bring our dog with to Disney as it is a perfect marriage of our two loves - now that the children are grown and gone - our dog and Disney. While at Portofino Bay we had an in-room dog sitter or sent our dog to doggie day care. For this trip in May I am already booked for day care at Best Friends. Our dog will have a great time playing with other dogs during the day and then be with us in the cabin in the evening. We go to Disney and on Disney cruise line a lot and for those trips we leave our dog at a kennel or at home with one of our children. I don't think many dogs like being in a kennel overnight and it is a lot of work for a dog-sitter. Sometimes the worst part about going on vacation is leaving the dog. So now our dog came come with us - taking a couple of nights to drive to Florida - with some fun dog friendly stops along the way and back. We can have a good time during the day in the parks knowing that she will be having fun (she already goes to day camp once a week) and we will all enjoy being together in the evening. She will never be left alone in the cabin. She doesn't shed but despite that we always have her special blankets to cover the couch and bed if she climbs up on them.

This will more than likely be a one time trip to Disney for her. There are many other places to take dogs and I am sure that we will do so. The point I am trying to make is that we are putting a lot of thought and care into taking our dog on this trip. We don't want to bother anyone - and we won't. We are not going to take her where she is not allowed to go - she doesn't need to go to the parks or anywhere else where dogs are not permitted. I think that would be the case with most other families with dogs as well. It would be nice to hear from them.
I like your point specifically about nighttime. Other than eating normally, that is when I would worry about my dogs the most is at night. Most facilities are not 24 hours so pets are alone all night. I wouldn’t leave them alone all day in a strange room either. I wish wdw would add a pet sitter option like you have talked about. Then I would absolutely bring my little dog. Boarding is a traumatic experience for him.

After a lot of thought and discussion today, we decided we couldn't stay at art of animation, we don't want to downgrade and we didn't want to go offsite.
Call me a hypocrite but ive followed the advice of all the pro dogs in hotels crowd and have got to another resort.

I feel I've done what's Best Buy my wife, we have cancelled all table service meals we had 6 booked including 3 signature meals as we are on the QS PLan we will be okay with those meals and are using that money we had saved to upgrade to a dog free hotel. The only available one for our dates... animal kingdom lodge.

Please don't hate me

If I may ask, why did you cancel table service meals as it is my understanding that dogs other than service animals will not be allowed in restaurants?

Listen I get if someone has horrible allergies to dogs.

But why are some people assuming that some dogs are just going to come up unprovoked and bite a guest?

It happens a lot that people ignore leash laws/rules and let their dog bound up to complete strangers.

They may well not bite, but just being approached by a strange dog can be a big problem for many.

Add this to how people seem to push things further at Disney because a Disney vacation can be a very big deal and they want to get all they can out of it - and you can see why there's concern people with dogs might not all respect their surroundings. Most will, but it only takes a few who don't...

So, so, so agree with this.... If you have a seeing eye dog, seizure sensing dog, or other truly certified therapy dog you should, be without question, be allowed to have your dog with you at all times during your trip to WDW resort/park/Springs (and your shouldn't have to pay a penny extra -- as a true therapy dog doesn't pee or damage indoors -- at all..... ) it should not even be a question. Your dog has been extremely well trained and certified that they will behave as expected.....

This change seems more for pet dogs, non-certified therapy dogs, or the emotional therapy animals. This change does not reflect that emotional support/pet dogs have no where near the training they need for this type of situation and will definitely ruin it for truly trained therapy dogs...

I agree that a dedicated resort would be the way to go. And I also feel for people with allergies that would be affected by this especially those that it can cause serious issue for. I dare say the majority of the posts though are from people who don't want dogs there for no other reason than they just don't. And so my point in all this has been there is way it all can work for everyone. But people don't want to see it that way. They just want it their way.

Hopefully Disney can make this work. But if not and they decide to do away with the policy, I wouldn't be mad about it all. Like I said earlier - I don't expect to be able to take my dog everywhere. I also don't expect it's too much to ask for people to give the trial a chance and for adjustments to made instead of acting like it's the end of enjoyable trips to Disney.
