Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

People hoping that complains will put a stop to this test, remember it took a child being eaten by an alligator to cause Disney to put a fence around an open water way.

No one at Disney saw that being an issue until somebody died, in an extremely tragic way. Mission space still operates after people have died.

The only reason Disney will change this is if it hurts them financially. The only way to do this at this time is ask to be downgraded to a cheaper hotel, and ask for a refund, which they have said is an option.

If you pay to upgrade to a more expensive dog free hotel, then Disney are winning.
Not a fair comparison at all. Dogs are not predators like alligators. Totally different topic.

After a long discussion with DH last night, we have decided to wait for first hand reports of implementation of this new policy. If done correctly, it should be okay for us to stay in a "canine free" room with a medical cleaning if they can't guarantee it. We studied POFQ and it just doesn't appeal to us. We will not stay at a Deluxe as it is way too expensive. POP would be acceptable to DH but I have plans for a Saturday evening enjoying the resort and three dinners at DS, taking the boat. Hoping for a respectful, responsible implementation and leaving my reservation intact.

Very few people will actually pay that much to bring their dogs. Many more (if not most) will drive in and bring their dogs to their rooms without mentioning it to the front desk. Once in, who's to know who paid and who didn't? They will simply put the "Do not disturb" sign on the door and that will be that. DISNEY KNOWS THIS. That's why the idea of trying to designate sections won't/can't be effective; it's simply not enforceable.

Mine was in review. There are a couple that voice concerns but they are largely only allowing the positive it seems. Given the vast majority on every other site I'm on (and with every conversation I've had with Disney lovers in my own family & friends circle) are in opposition to this decision it would seem they are likely editing them to only allow a positive spin.
Mine was deleted as well - I just wanted to know how they plan to control fleas and ticks. I feel that is a legitimate question.

I was thinking this exact thought. Some will not pay to bring their dog. They will not request a pet room to avoid the fee, b/c now it will be, in their minds, allowed.

We see it frequently. Someone asks are the room limits set in stone & there’s always one responding ‘Just put him in your room. No one will know”...

For those with allergies to dogs (life threatening or not) how do you handle the service dogs that are allowed by law in the parks, restaurant, and hotels?

FWIW...on SW if there is a passenger with a service dog on board and you report an allergy, by law the service animal and passenger get to stay and SW will put you on another flight. (This is straight from a customer service supervisor at the gate)

Was in Marshall's about a year ago and walked into the ladies room. Low and behold there was a very elderly woman washing her dog's bottom in the sink because he had a #2 accident in the shopping cart they were using. I was shocked to say the least. I said something to her about how dirty and germy that was and she told me to shut the "h...." up. I immediately went up to the front desk to find a manager. They manager didn't do anything so the next person that came along would probably use a shopping cart tainted with dog feces.

Management couldn't have ignored me if I had been in that situation. I'd be the loudest person in the room for the entire time poop-washing dog lady was in the store. No lady, I will not "shut the hell up", and why don't I pee in the sink while I'm at it to bookend what you're doing. I certainly don't have a problem calling people out on crap like that.

I guess you can sneak a dog in your room if you have one that never barks. I personally have never owned a dog who didn't bark at some things.

If a dog is barking and someone reports it, management must nail the occupants with a dog fee.

They can hit you with a cleaning fee for smoking. A dog being in the room is even easier to prove. Have a guest open their door with a CM present. Dog fee imposed as Fido struts over.

I think this is a real possibility too.

So if people get caught sneaking in their dog, I would imagine they would just end up having to pay the daily dog fee after all. I can see how some people might just try it and play dumb when they're caught.

Or get kicked out. Isn’t that the penalty for sneaking in additional guests now?

Does anybody know if those with service dogs are charged a cleaning fee? Has anybody encountered checking into a resort and told a service dog had occupied a room?

In May of this year, we stayed at AKL and was assigned a room that had previously been occupied by a dog. When we first entered the room, it reeked! It smelled like urine and of all the chemicals used to attempt to cover up the urine smell. DH has allergies so there was no way we could stay in that room. We immediately visited the front desk and let them know of the issue. That is when we were told the room was previously occupied by a dog. The CM insinuated that we may have the same cleaning smell in a different room. We were certainly willing to try another room. Our newly assigned room was completely fine, no strong odors of any kind. We stay at WDW a lot and I’ve never smelled a room that bad (and never want to again!).

We had a stay booked at Yacht Club in December. As soon as this news broke, I called WDW like many others. The CM admitted they didn’t have all the details yet, so I asked to change resorts. She was unable to find availability on the phone. I kept searching myself online and was able to switch to the Beach Club. Now I know we are VERY lucky and I feel terribly for others that were not able to switch. It’s poor customer service by Disney to spring this major change on us.

I sent an email to Guest Services and received the same form/template email that everyone else received. Frankly, I feel that response was condescending as it didn’t address any of my questions or concerns. I also posted a comment to the blog but it’s been in moderation for over 2 hours so I’m not expecting it to be posted.

Real service dogs are trained to behave in a manner that does not allow them to touch me or I them. I am fortunate enough to have had Animal free flights every time. I am okay on a plane for a few hours if I am seated well away from the service animal. I check my seat before sitting down for signs of previous animal occupancy. I often fly first class using upgrade points. The seats are more likely to be leather and I wipe it down with a Clorox wipe.

Guests get kicked out because they've gone beyond the number of people allowed in rooms, so violating fire codes and such. I don't think that applies to dogs.

swan/dolphin, while being on the Disney property, don't have the same advantages as Disney resorts.

The major things that you don't get with the Swan/Dolphin are the Magical Express, the ability to purchase the Disney Dining Plan, and the ability to charge back to your room's account.

You do get EMH, the same access to FP+ and ADRs, and full use of the WDW transportation system. You even get a boat to Epcot and the Studios. :)
