Travelodge Maingate East - Urgent

Anyone stayed here? I am considering booking a half term break here - we aren't really that bothered about the hotel so long as it is clean and not MILES and MILES away from anything. We would have a car to get around so... is this hotel OK?

Have a half term offer (Feb) for return flights, car hire and 7 nights @ travelodge maingate east for £502 pp - Is this good value? It seems it to me.

Just did a search and there were some pretty damning reports on that hotel. For £680 pp I can get Wyndham Orlando Resort - Is my extra dosh well spent on this hotel?

I am desperate to make my first trip to the world!

I haven't stayed at the Travelodge Maingate personally but I know somebody who has. They did get a very good deal on this hotel which is why they went for it, but they did say if they had the choice again they wouldn't go back. The hotel in general is very basic, from check in through to the rooms, although they did say there was no problem with cleanliness.

As for it's location I can comment on that as we stayed on 192 in 1999. At that time there were a lot of roadworks which meant getting around was very difficult, we even had to hire a taxi to go 1/2 a mile up the road. I haven't been back to 192 since but I would guess that the work is completed now so you wouldn't have those problems this year. There are literally hundreds of restaurants and discount shops, but personally I-Drive is far far better IMHO.

Your deal for the Wyndham Orlando sounds good, if you asked for my opinion, I would go for that.......!!!

It's all down to personal taste at the end of the day though isn't it .......!!!

p.s. You're closer to Disney on 192, that could sway it for some people, although I-Drive isn't really that far away.

The 192 is finished and a very good road now.Have you considered a villa for your holiday it could work out to your benefit.

Mel, Orlando is a long way for just a week. you'll lose a couple of days flying. IMHO you really should look at a minimum of 10 days.

You don't say the size and ages of your party. You also don't say if the car includes insurance, that can be almost as much as renting a car from a consolidator style company. At the moment they can't give rooms away in Orlando, that may change but I don't think it's going to change very quickly. I would look to break down your package and see if you can get a better hotel, for the same price doing it that way. You can rent a car, all inclusive from about £150 a week. I'd do some checking on flights and see what they come in at. Hotels you can use the on line travel agents connected to this site to price up some of your options.

If you're tied to getting just a week at that time I'd seriously consider going this summer for 2 weeks. I think late bookings there are going to be some massive bargains as the airlines and hotels scramble to fill places.

I wouldn't agree with Vernon on the one week point. We are limited to school hols and have done single weeks for the last two years. Admittedly we go twice a year (Feb and Oct) and are noe child free (although our 19 yr old DD will be coming withus in Oct) so things are not really frantic. If you are corralled into school hols I would say go for the week, it's a great break! I also think a villa or condo might be nicer, but the price you quote is a pretty good one! Have a fabulous time whatever you decide!

I got offered the same hotel with Travel City Direct in late sept for 420 pounds including flights, car & full insurance and holiday insurance (based on 2 adult & 1 child sharing).

Decided to change to May (Going next week !!!!) hurrah! and managed to get through Travel City Direct a lux villa for 2 weeks, 7 seat minivan & full insurance, flights & full travel insurance for a shade under 600 pounds per person based on only 4 sharing a 3 bed villa. I'm still pinching myself at the bargain.

I have used Airtours Direct as well in the past but Travel City Direct has amazing prices!

I will never again book through a high street agent or that other con story, TVtravelshop.

Sounds like an advert for TCD but it's not.....honest!!!!

We have stayed at the Travelodge MGE for a few nights for the past 3 years.

If you can get the room at a good price, this year (just returned) we got it for £25 per night, then its a great hotel.

Its in an excellent location with lots of restaurants, shop etc., locally to walk to (we dont like having to drive at night), the bar inside the hotel is great with a lot of Brits, and the pool is right outside.

The rooms are quite large but are looking dated and tired.

Theres an arcade for the kids, gift shop and restaurant. Most of the people we have met in the bar have all been there before and returned because of the above good points.

We use it as a base for the first few and last few nights and then travel around the coast in the middle. As the hotels on the coast are about $100 a night, it's good to make some savings somewhere.
