can i cash travellers cheques easily near the parks or on the 192 i will be near poinciana avenue or something near that name :rolleyes1 if the dollar goes near $2 before xmas i will buy buy buy :woohoo: well you never know :thumbsup2

Poinciana Boulevard you mean I think :)

You can cash cheques at any restuarant/gas station etc - used as a cash equivalent in most places.

I've never came across a place in Florida that wouldn't cash a traveller's cheque.

As an alternative to taking loads of travellers cheques you could take a Nationwide credit card - they do not charge for international use and so you get an exchange rate very close to the bank rate. With TCs you are stuck with the exchange rate when you purchase them.

You can also use ATMs to get cash - these accept most Maestro/Switch cards etc. You will get charged for getting cash, so best to take a few large withdrawals rather than a lot of little ones :)

As has been said before, you can use TCs exactly the same as cash. You may get asked of photo ID if using large cheques ($100), but very rarely.
Remember to get $ TCs and not £ ones :)

There is also a newish product out now - the AMEX Travel Cheque Card - you load money onto it and then use it like a debit card. There are sometimes some good offeres available on these where you get free $$$ when you apply for a card.

Here's a few threads on the card:

We've had the travellers cheque card this year - there was a great offer in february and we got our rate for 1.8 (when it was about 1.7). If you get travellers cheques just be careful in gas stations with the 100 dollar ones, my husband was given a very dirty look and the assistant shouted "do you only have a hundred" much to his embarrassment and horror as there were a couple of unsavoury looking people behind him - that was on our first visit when we didnt realise how cheap the petrol was. That was the only place where there was a problem and since then we asked for smaller denominations and now we have the card so no problem at all (i hope :) )

Large travelers cheques sometimes require ID but you can cash anywhere, Take a credit card not just Nationwide any UK bank and tell them in advance you are going.

That's a top tip. It's always a good idea to tell your bank and credit card company about your trips abroad so it doesn't trigger any fraud alerts on their systems. A friend of mine always told his card company when he was going abroad. When his card was used for a transaction in Amsterdam the card company rang him to enquire if he was there - when he confirmed he was in the UK they blocked the cloned card and refunded his money. So it does pay to let them know.

Have a great time ! We're not going back until 2008 so a wee bit jealous.

You might have picked this up from previous replies but just to make sure......you don't need to cash travellers cheques into local currency (dollars) like you do in the Med.

Take $ TCs with you and then use them like cash....if you're in a restaurant and the bills $60 then you can sign a $100 bill and get $40 change. It's brilliant !

The only places you won't be able to use TCs in this way tends to be the juice and food vendors in the parks.
