Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

TGIF!!!! I woke up at about 4:00 a.m. this morning thinking about everything I need to do by next Thursday! My mind just wouldn't turn off. My husband and I have dinner theater tickets for tonight, but then I'm staying home the rest of the weekend to clean, do laundry, and possibly start packing. I can't believe this trip is finally here. It almost doesn't seem real to me. It will when we get on that plane next Thursday though.

We did margarita tasting on our last cruise, and my DH was pretty much drunk. Of course, he drank mine and few others' around us. He wanted to make sure he got his moneys worth. I'm not sure if we're signing up for it again this time or not, but it was a pretty good laugh. He wasn't hammered or anything like that, but he sure did wobble a little bit when heading back to our stateroom.

It is absolutely freezing here today, so I'll take 66-68 degree weather for sure. I was also hoping it would be a little warmer than that, but I'll take what I can get and realize that once we leave Port Canaveral, we should be in for some beautiful weather!

If it makes you feel better a lot of time 68 feels a lot warmer when you add in the sun beating down and humidty so tell yourself it is 88 and then it might feel like it

A little scare this morning. I got in the car to go to work, turned to go down our STEEP hill, and the brake petal went to the floor. It was a thrill I do not want to repeat ever in any way. Good news is that no one was hurt, there was no properly damage and the car is fixed. The bad news was a car repair bill before vacation. It turns out that one of my brake lines had severed. Nothing like a little terror to wake you up in the morning. A good thing that came out of it was that by the time it was fixed, it was too late to go to work so I got a lot done for the trip.
We take our little dog Louie to the kennel tomorrow morning for a overnight to introduce him to it before we leave him there for ten days. He is very timid (except with us) so I hope he does well. He looks kind of like Bolt except with no tail.

Once we leave the port area, we will very quickly be in sub-tropical waters and will stay there for most of the trip...thus, while I suggest bringing a sweatshirt or windbreaker as the deck of a moving ship can get a bit gusty at times, the weather should be quite nice.

As to the water, for anyone but Floridians, the temperature should be quite nice...for those of us who are used to bathwater temperatures, it is sometimes a bit chilly.

As to water, you can bring sealed bottled water onboard...I suggest a soft-sided cooler, but NO ICE.....alternatively you can buy the somewhat overpriced "water package" and you can get water, but not bottled water, at the deck 9 drink station.

Hmm, I'm considering to bring my Brita pitcher if I still have some space left. Quite overwhelmed with the packing lately, still trying to get the some stuff but the list really helps since I'm not quite an organized person.

We just bring water bottles and fill them up. We do not mind the ship water. If you are particular I recommend you carry your case on and not check it in.

Does the ship water have some kind of smell?
Does DCL not allowed us to check in the water bottles?

I checked weather.com. THey are predicting sunny and a high of 69 and low of 51 that night. If it were us going, we would bring sweatshirts. The only time you could possibly regret it if you were just sitting around waiting on a parade, then you might get cold. We have brought heavy stuff before and crammed it in a locker at the entrance, just in case.

I do not think the water has a smell. Yes, you can check bottled water, but it is not recommended as many times the packages are broken and you do not get nearly the number you checked in or sometimes you get none.

I probably live the closests to the MK and my opinion is a sweatshirt is fine. Especially since you are used to cooler temps then I. As long as you are fine if it is 50-deg and you are in a sweatshirt I think you will have no problems. Remind me a day or two before you leave and I will walk outside for you

We got an okay view from way over here. It still is very cool to watch that orange ball fly by the full moon. My in-law's were there for the launch. I hope to make it someday.

So they definitely aren't taking cases of water with checked luggage? I was hoping to slap a luggage tag on ours. It made it just fine last time. I read a report that someone did have a porter take hers without any problems, however, I couldn't get anyone else to confirm it.
