I just finished chatting with a CM on the Disney website about travel time by DME. My daughter and I are flying with only carry-ons (my husband is driving with the luggage and arriving a few days earlier). The CM said to allow 3 hours from arrival at MCO to WDW. For those of you who have used DME before is this accurate? It seemed a little lengthy to me but I have never used DME before.

The difficulty lies in the unknown. How many people on the bus. The bus does not just go to your resort. Depending where you are staying, many stops my occur before it reaches your resort. So the CM's guesstimate could well be accurate.

It really depends on how long you have to wait to board your bus. Once you leave MCO it takes between 30-45 minutes till you are at your resort. If you plan on 1 1/2 to 2hrs from the time you deplane till you reach your resort, you should be in the ball park.:tigger:

Average time is about 70 minutes from the time you step off the plane. 2 hours is possible, but highly unlikely. I have never, ever, ever heard of it taking 3 hours for anyone.

Highly unlikely. I've used DME more times than I can count....I have never had a time of more than 90 mins!!! And that was just the one time....last of three resorts, a ton of luggage to be off loaded at the first two resorts...just miserable.
But generally speaking, it's usually about 75 mins, from gate to resort. I've had times of 60 mins, most around 70, with that one at 85 mins.

BUT...you get picked up at the resort 3 hrs prior to your flight home. Perhaps that was what the CM thought you were talking about?

On our first trip to Disney, we had a 3 hour trip to the resort by ME. We landed at MCO around 10pm and had to get our bags from the carousel. We waited a few minutes for the bus but were on and moving by 10:30ish. We were the last resort stop and there were 3 other resorts. It was well after 1:00 am before we were at our resort checking in.
This has never happened again, thank goodness. I alway make sure we have earlier flights now. Our last trip was a breeze. We landed and were at our resort in less than 90 minutes. We had a bus load going to the Allstars. That was even including time to chase a lady that grabbed the wrong carry on from the plane to the restroom to get it back.

On aug 5, we checked into DME at 6:05 pm. We were the first stop of our bus, and arrived at 8:14 PM.

We stood in an empty line (with about 20 other people) waiting for a bus to our resort (POP) for over an hour. Then the driver loaded our luggage on the bus, then apparently went for a break for 20 minutes while we sat and waited.

It was NOT very magical at all watching other buses come and go, half empty -- but because they were not for "our" resort -- we couldn't start our vacation.
