I just got a jury summons. It is 4 days until my trip. Do any of you know if a trip insurance policy would cover this?

Thanks

I've always been given at least 6-9 weeks notice for jury duty...which is more than enough time to request a postponement because of already-committed vacation time. Are you saying you JUST received the summons today and must report in 4 days?

if you cant reschedule it (which you probably can).

Then again I always remember the old saying

Who you don't want on your Jury....someone who is not smart enough to get out of jury duty!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This of course is NOT directed at you!

Good luck, you should be fine.

Do you have a policy already? If not you can't purchase the policy after the fact and expect them to pay it. They will require proof as to when you were served if it's something they'd cover.

Call the Clerk Of Court's office & explain your situation & see if they won't delay your date to appear. It is certainly worth a try.

If the trip is booked, you should have NO problem being exempt from the days. Just show them the confirmation. Otherwise, yes, trip insurance will cover.

Thanks for the responses...

To clarify-- I got a summons for later this month---which is 4 days before my trip.

Yes, I would cancel a trip if I had to serve. I wouldn't want to and that is why I asked my question.

I called the clerk and have a postponement. So. all is good.

Years agao, I had jury duty 1 week before leaving the country for vacation. Where we were living at the time had the system 1 day or 1 trial. If this is your case go the first day and explain there. This way you get credit for showing , not just postponing it.

I explained the situation to the lawyers and would you believe they picked me to serve. The trial was suppose to last only 3 days. We the jury deliberated my last day (leaving in the morning!). Thankfully we came to a decision by lunchtime. The lawyers were getting worried, since I told the turth from the start and there was no alternates, they would have been in trouble with the judge.

I'd call the court house and try to reschedule, especially if you just got it. I know here, it's not an issue to postpone your civic duty;)

Does anyone really know what happens when you just don't go or respond?

I hear all kinds of horror stories.....

There was once, years ago, when I didnt respond. I was young and didnt know you could get in "trouble". Nothing ever happened. :confused3

I got called and went. I couldn't believe the number of people who didn't show up when their names were read. I wondered what happened to them too.

I received a jury summons in September and had a trip booked. I was able to postpone it one time. I had to choose a date within 6 months and they said I would get a 2 week notice. This is in NYC.

You can be jailed for contempt of court if you just don't show up for jury duty. We've had a couple judges in Indiana do that recently, since people don't realize the importance of serving on a jury.

For the OP, call the Court and explain the situation. They will probably just put your name back into the pool of potential jurors to be called later.

The one time I got called I also had a WDW trip planned. One short call to the court got me rescheduled to the next jury pool after the trip.

The OP did call and doesn't have to appear.

To others: Never, ever just fail to appear and expect everything to be okay. You have to get an excuse. I'm an attorney and have been called for jury service more than a couple of times. I even sat on a criminal trial jury (I can't believe the defense attorney didn't reject me -- and his client lost). I, too, am amazed at the numbers of no shows. Several judges will send law enforcement out after those folks and haul their butts to jail until the judge or his clerk can get down there to have a little talk with them.
