I know that this will probably get many people annoyed, but there are definetly plenty of other citizens here in America, who deserve a free trip to Disney World.

If the miner can afford to have two mistresses and a wife, he can definetly afford a trip to Disney, even in Disney's flagship resort.

We're going to be at WDW Jan 25-Feb 1, so we'll be there most of the time the miners will be there. I read about it a little while ago, and was, of course, selfishly wondering what the impact will be on our vacation. Media frenzy? Huge crowds wherever they go? Whatever day they'll be in a certain park, I'd just as well avoid it. I agree that they'll probably stay at the GF. We'll be at WL with several planned meals at GF...I wonder if our paths will cross. I am happy for them, but DH and I are hoping to keep our distance.

I don't know if envy is the correct word. I can't imagine have 2 mistresses and a wife. You'd have to be nuts. This is coming from a woman. He couldn't possibly make them all happy. Honestly, he wasn't that good looking. He's a miner, so it couldn't have been money or intelligence. That only leaves one other thing in my mind and with 3 woman to please I somehow fail to see that either.

Even though I think what WDW is doing is great; it's all about the PR. It would have been nice to see them do the same for family members of the Sago Mine disaster in which 29 miners lost their lives in a mine explosion in West Virginia.

Seriously? He was a MINER in CHILE... I am sure he made next to nothing. I doubt he was showering his wife and mistresses in jewelery from Tiffanys... So I doubt he could afford a trip to Disney, considering we are planning our trip- and practically need a 2nd mortgage first...

Chile has one of the highest standards of living in the Americas. Miners make squat worldwide, of course, but Chile is no worse off than the U.S.

Great point, and if they give any away somebody is going to "know" someone / some group who was more deserving.

If I had a vote I would vote for wounded vets and their spouses and kids getting free trips. But I think Disney does a huge amount of good so no complaints from me.

I was really pointing out the hipocracy, my wife would castrate me if I did that, and rightly so! On another note, the miners were not paid for their time underground, as the mine's owners went bankrupt. I personally don't mind
Disney giving them a freebie(Disney stockholder since 1999), but it should be in the value resorts and not interfere with any PAYING guests vacation.

Actually, many children with serious illnesses receive trips to Disney through Make a Wish foundation. I bet Disney donates a lot of money and cast member's donate a lot of time to various charities. They also offer discounts for military families. I'm not saying discounts make up for the sacrifices made by military families, but it is still a nice gesture. I have no problem at all with Disney bringing the miners to Disney. What a wonderful experience for them after all they have been through. I doubt it will impact crowds.

Disney gives plenty of military discounts as this is how OUR Disney Dreams have become a reality. Our first Disney trip was in 2002 after 9/11 and then a cruise in 2003. Every trip since has been discounted for us as a military family and then we just bought into the DVC.

Our tickets this year for our trip in June will be $138 total for 6 4-day Park Hopper passes....yes, you read that right!!! Now that's a great discount and way to recoginize the hard work and effort by our military!!

There are plenty of people from other countries visiting other Disney spots for free as well...Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo...it's not just here in America!

It has absolutely nothing to do with where the miners are from. People who are complaining about Disney not picking another group of people need to take a closer look at what they are saying. They are self-centered people who would say something like this. There are thousands upon thousands of people who have been subject to hardships in life. Disney cannot accommodate them all. They have offered trips in the past for other groups of people too. This is just like any other group that Disney has chosen to recognize.

As far as where they are staying, I am sure this information isn't going to be in the news for the privacy of the miners and their families who are traveling with them. Once they are actually there, I am sure that people will see them around and will post about it.

I will there before the Chileans arrive, and I hope they can get some peace of mind while there. I am certain Disney will film and note most of their visit- but I certainly HOPE AND PRAY outside journalists are restricted-
for all our sakes. that is the attraction I dont want to see.
The rest of us want privacy as well.

I really hope those families that suffered in that emergency are doing okay.
