Trapped Miners

I am traveling those same dates and while I usually hate any news that seems like the parks will be crowded while I am there, I am quite excited that I will be there at the same time as the miners. I was glued to my computer during the rescue and I think it would be awesome to get to meet some of them. It is such an amazing human survival story and I would love to show my son pictures when he is older of these men who lived under extraordinary circumstances.

I hope that I am in Magic Kingdom the day they are in the parade so I can cheer for them!

I think it's a great gift to the miners who endured such a terrible ordeal and their families who experienced such anguish. I hope they have a wonderful time. Their nationality is not relevant.

I wonder what resort they will be at. We'll be there too, but only a couple of days.

So the end of January/1st part of February we should start seeing posts about the Chilean Tour Groups taking all the fast passes. :rotfl2:

For real?? What does it matter if they are Americans or not? Disney is never going to be able to give free trips to everyone who is "deserving" so why question or begrudge these miners this gift?
Agreed. The miners showed grace and courage in horrible circumstances- it's amazing to me how they kept their spirits up when many people would have just given up.

I don't care what country they're from, I hope they all have a wonderful time:wizard:

Really why? Don't get me wrong, I am glad they are alive and well, but I think there are so many more Americans who deserve a free trip to WDW. Anyone know how many trips WDW has given to kids who lost a parent in the war? Or a free trip to a disabled veteran, or a child with cancer??

Actually, many children with serious illnesses receive trips to Disney through Make a Wish foundation. I bet Disney donates a lot of money and cast member's donate a lot of time to various charities. They also offer discounts for military families. I'm not saying discounts make up for the sacrifices made by military families, but it is still a nice gesture. I have no problem at all with Disney bringing the miners to Disney. What a wonderful experience for them after all they have been through. I doubt it will impact crowds.

Obviously at CSR, right near the dig site...

That's funny!

We are at CSR 1/30-2/7 so I will let you know if I see any Chilean tour groups or bunches of people with climbing ropes attaching them together walking around singing Hi-Ho.

There is also a USPS convention at CSR during this time. Does this seem like too many overstressed people at one resort?

I think I'd worry more about the USPS folks than the miners! :rotfl2:

On the good news front, the more conventioneers and miners at CSR, the less cheerleaders!

We're at CSR for a couple of days the other end of the month! :woohoo:

Have a great trip! pixiedust:

While I think it's fine that Disney is doing this, I'm sort of glad I will have my trip before they arrive. Not because of the miners, but because of all the media that will be savagely hunting for photos and stories. THAT feeding frenzy I can certainly do without. I hope the miners have some time to just relax and enjoy the parks without feeling like they're under a microscope.

I hope there not staying at the Poly, the ONLY circus i want to see is at Downtown Disney! But on a lighter note, I wonder which mistess will be accompanying the stud of the group lol ;)

Now you gotta wonder if they are going to get their pictures taken with the 7 Dwarfs or not. :woohoo:

I was thinking the same thing! They better! That will be an awesome picture!

"We dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig in a mine the whole day through......"

 I was also wondering whether that miner was planning to bring his wife or his mistress! I seem to remember hearing that the wife had left him, but I'm not exactly current on that soap opera!

I actually envy the guy, he had TWO mistresses and a wife. I have a hard enough time with a wife, can't imagine two mistresses too, must have cost him a fortune! LOL

Lol, Hi Ho!

No one "deserves" a free trip. This is just a way for Disney to get some lovely virtually free pr, and for pixie dust to fall on a group that would never have seen such a thing.

and you plan on being in the middle of it? All those questions you are going to have to answer are definitely going to slow down your vacation!

No, I check out on the 21st and they don't arrive until the 27th, so I won't be in the middle of it all - and for that I am thankful. I just hope they give the miners a little breathing room to just enjoy themselves, instead of it just being one big media rollercoaster. Some news reporters can be pretty obnoxious when it comes to getting a story.

Disney can give away some free trips every year or they can give away no free trips every year.

If they give away some free trips, I can't blame them for choosing whom they did choose. Chilean miners? Terminally ill children (Make a Wish)? Randomly selected in a sweepstakes? Residents of New Jersey? (I don't recall any other honored states such as in "New Hampshire Days")
