Transferring points ?

I have recently become a DVC owner. I had already rented points from another DVC owner for a vacation in December before I became a DVC owner.. Actually purchasing these points is what made use look into buying DVC.

I was thinking about asking this owner if he would transfer the points to us instead of making the reservation for us. This would give me full control of the reservation and I would be sure I had it. Is there any risk in transferring points to my account? Is there any reason the other owner wouldn't or couldn't transfer the points to my account?

If you are talking about your December reservation, remember your name is on it but it is his reservation. If he transfers points to your account he will cancel his reservation. (He has to get his points back to transfer to you). You will have to book a new reservation under your own name and ownership and the likelihood of the dates being available may be iffy. Someone please correct me if I do not understand this properly!

You are correct. Unless there is still availability for those dates for the room type and resort, you will lose that reservation. The other DVC owner would have to cancel it in order to transfer the points into the OPs account.

We only get one transfer per Use Year (into or out of the account) so if the owner you are dealing with has already used his one transfer this UY, or plans to use it for something else, then he wouldn't be able to transfer points to you.

He also could not transfer points if they were banked or borrowed points.

We did the same thing. Rented points, said - this is crazy, I need to own! So, I called the owner to see if she could transfer the points into my account. She couldn't because they were borrowed. We ended up wanting a longer stay and bigger accomadations, so I actually transferred some of few points into her account to complete the last night's reservaiton. Then, I finished our trip with our points. I know you'd like the points in your account, but I figured I could bare it for one trip, since there were so many other trips in our future!

The transfer deadline is the same as the UY? So technically If you have a Sept. UT you coud do a transfer in Aug. then again in Oct.? The calender year means nothing, right? Also points never lose their home resort affiliation? Once points are transferred, let's say in do they fall under your banking guidelines or the original owners guidelines/UY?
