I'm considering a gift to family of some of my points, actually to spread them between three children equally. Does anyone know who I would hire to do do the process. I certainly don't think I could do the maze on my own..

Do you have three contracts now or are all your points in one contract?

call MS and ask them how much it will cost - expect to pay.

this is only if you have 3 contracts - if you only have one - they can't do it that way - you can get them as co-owners if you only have one contract.

again expect to pay.

I never ever thought to call member services - I didn't think this was something they would do and I'm not sure why not...thank you so much....DVC members are GREAT! :cool1:

You cannot break up a contract. Only DVC can do that. That is why we bought three contracts along with keeping them the right size for selling. Real big ones don't sell as well.

Actually, MS has nothing to do with splitting contracts or alloting points among family members. If you have 3 contracts, Member Accounting can advise you, but you are basically selling your kids the contracts for $0, so you will have closing costs for each contract. That's about $350 each. If you have only one contract, you can't do anything, except to put all your kids on as associate members, and hope they don't kill each other. :rotfl: It's free, though.

If you do have separate contracts, there are ways to minimize the costs of transfer far less than $350 per. You will still have to go through ROFR I believe but I understand they give an automatic one in this situation. I agree with talking to member admin to get the definitive details.

Wondering now....Can we add our 2 adult children on as associate members instead of deeding the membership to them in our will? And it's free?

Yes, that will allow them to use the membership and make reservations but will not create a pass through in the event of death and will not necessarily entitle them to discounts and the like. If it's a single contract and DVC will waive the transfer fee (ask them), you could do this for about $50, possibly for nothing but I'm not saying how on the BBS. If DVC won't waive the transfer, it's $200 per contract.
