Trail's End Buffet or WCC?? I can't decide!

I'm trying to decide where we should eat for our last night in WDW (Saturday, Sept 15). It will be me, dh, and our kids ages 5,5, almost 4.

We're currently booked at Whispering Canyon Cafe. The menu sounds good, and I think the kids and dh would like the "hi-jinks". I'm sure they'd love the Bottomless Milkshake. The one downside is one of my twins doesn't like barbuque--which cuts out the child's skillet for her at least. I don't know if it will bother her if the rest of us have the skillet, and she just has a cheeseburger or mac and cheese.

Anyway, I'm now thinking of switching to the Trail's End Buffet, just so we can check out Fort Wilderness. I think the kids would like the petting zoo, and I would like to walk along the swamp walk. Also we could maybe time it so we could do the Chip and Dale campfire sing-along. I'm considering having us stay in the FW cabins for our next trip (not until Jan 2011--but hey I like to plan ahead;) ), and this would be a great time just to check it out. Also it being a buffet would give the kids a bigger variety to choose from (the kids menus are somewhat limiting).

For those of you who have eaten at both WCC and Trail's End, how do they compare? Would you pick one over the other? Is Trail's End worth it just to check out Fort Wilderness?

Thanks!

Kelly

Here is my take on it....
If you are using the DDP I would go with WCC. If you are paying OOP and want to save a little $, trails end is a great choice. Now, if money is not an issue I would do HDDR. I am sure your kids would love it and that would be a great way to end a trip to WDW.

Well, we're doing free dining, so money isn't an issue on either choice except HDDR (and since this is a budget trip I'm too cheap to spend the extra money for HDDR, although it sure looks like fun!)

How's the food at Trail's End? Any good?

Its pretty good, for a buffet. But with free dining I would do WCC, more bang for your free dining buck!! Eat early and head over to FW for some evening fun.
Enjoy the trip!!!

I've been to both, and prefer WCC. My most recent trip there in February was so much fun, and they had some of the best nachos I've ever tasted!! The steak & mashed potatoes were also delicious, and I was so full I couldn't even eat my dessert!

None of us like the Trail's End. Last year was the first time we ate there and we were looking forward to trying it. After spending as much as we did on the other buffets, the price looked great (we had the DDE, not the DDP). Unfortunately, we thought the food was only so-so. It's edible, place was clean, CMs were courteous, but the food was just ... eh. Even my DH (who is a pro at pinching pennies till they hurt), said it just wasn't worth saving a few bucks and that was the one place he did NOT want to try again this year.

That said, that was only our experience and opinion. Could have been a bad night, could have been picky customers :confused3 ;) , could have been any number of things. Many others enjoy it, so it might be worth trying to see how "you" like it. I agree, the amenities in the area are worth a look-see and we enjoyed a lovely walk and seeing everything else they offered.

WCC, however is a favorite. We've not had what I'd consider a "bad" meal there ever. Some things we like better than others, but all were quite good.

Either way, I hope you enjoy yourselves wherever you go.

Do WCC. Trails End is the only bad meal I've ever had at Disney. Food was mediocre at best. My family and I are regulars in the campground. We have had it a couple times just because it was easy for us to get. Won't ever have it again though.

I like Trail's End, but I like it because it is usually a quick meal, good food but not great. WCC would be my choice of the two for your last night. When you are done simply walk to the stops and wait for the FW bus, the first stop the bus makes would be the area for the petting zoo, or continue on to the 2nd stop and walk right over to the campfire show(starts at 8 in the summer I think).
