Here is the story:
I have a friend of mine that traded in some RCI points for 2a/3c 4 day Park Hopper, Water Parks Plus, and No exp tickets (value of $1700). He can no longer make the trip and has offered to sell them to me because he knows I am going soon.
I don't need the tickets he offered (because our vacation is longer) but I wanted to know if I bought them from him, if I would be able to go to the gate and trade/upgrade them to the tickets we need?
I am not sure because they were not paid for with CASH, he used points from RCI???
Any help would be appreciated.

New, unused MYW tickets can be upgraded (once they are obtained,) regardless of how they were purchased.

But, you need to UPGRADE them (get tickets that cost MORE than the current tickets) otherwise you will likely not get any cash back in the transaction.

The simplest thing to do in this case is for the original purchaser to just KEEP them and use them (or upgrade them) on a future trip.

A big mistake was made in getting No Expire Tickets. All WDW "Magic Your Way" tickets expire 14 days from date of first use. A four day ticket costs $53.25 (including tax) to add the No Expire option. And, as you said, your trip wll be more than four days. Adding NE to a ticket is usually worthwhile in either of two situations; one is where you will use the ticket for two or more complete trips to WDW. The other is when you will want to use the WPF&M options on a subsequent trip.

You might want to look at the Everything About WDW Tickets locked sticky in this Forum. Especially the items bolded in the list below.
