Trading pin scavenger hunt

I was readying a trip report the other day and the writer had ordered a lot of trading pins off the internet and organized a scavenger hunt for her family to trade those pins for other pins. I thought that was a great idea and went to ebay this morning to buy some for my family.

However, I have seen two different types of pins. Both seller types seem very professional (that's what scares me). Both claim to have only official Disney licensed pins. One says - no sedesmas. The other type of ad says it has the Disney trademark and must be marked "sedesma." Which one is accurate???

I hate eBay, so let me just be clear about that up front!

Sedesma is a manufacturer. The pins are lighter weight than other Disney pins, and they have a cheaper look and feel to them. The metal is very thin. They can be traded in the parks, but they are not the greatest.

Pins MUST be marked "Disney" on the back and they must be metal. If you haven't been to the official Disney pin site www.odpt.com you can find the rules of trading there.

There is also a forum here called "Collectors" where you can find a ton of info on pin trading.

The thing with eBay is that the pins are often factory seconds that were not destroyed OR they are counterfeit. Especially the "cast lanyard" and "Hidden Mickey" pins. It is a very slippery slope to buy from them. I refuse to buy pins from eBay because I have had so many bad experiences.
