Trading into DVC from II

Hello All - I know many of you have DVC and other Timeshares from II. Actually - I know a few people who book with their DVC points and then put in a request with II for an exchange of another TS and then go with that if it comes through and they save or end up renting their points. (that sounds like a great plan). Anyway....to my question.

I have a request with II now for any DVC 1 BR for the week BEFORE Thanksgiving. But, I have already stayed at SSR, OKW, BWV and was really hopping to get BCV this time around.

For those of you that trade into DVC - if I drop the other resorts from my request - do you think I have a chance of getting BCV. If supose if I don't get in a couple of months I could always add them back in to the mix.

I just don't want to end up getting nothing cuz I was greedy with BCV.

Thanks in Advance!

I would not drop the other requests but you could reasonable eliminate certain resorts if you wanted. I'd only push it for BCV only if it's that or nothing. Remember you can retrade so if you get the exchange, keep looking online for BCV and if you see it, put it on hold and call them and ask them to retrade. It will cost you an extra exchange fee, likely worth it to get BCV over certain other resorts. I know a number of people who use a DVC reservation like a wait list when trying to trade in to II. I do this method myself both with DVC and otherwise, esp using the request first method for II.

Thanks Dean - the whole II and owning TS is new to me. I wondered if once I got a ressie and I saw something better if they would allow me change it. Glad to know it is a possiblity and if it will cost a few extra bucks. You seem to be the resident II expert. Anything else I should know?

Having an exchange confirmed and changing it is called a re-trade. If you think you might do this, don't pay the $95 fee until you actually arrive at the resort. DVC deposits MOSTLY studio and 1 BR units and mostly OKW & SSR. Holding out for a given resort is risky, esp for BCV & VWL.

I don't know what you have with II but you want to play with it enough online to know what to expect when you really want something. Will it pull summer, will it bull a 1 BR, a 2 BR? For this purpose, ignore anything you see inside 60 days as that won't give you any trade power information.

Thanks - I have been playing with it for a few years (the TS was my in-laws and I had all their passwords) they recently "sold" it to us.

I can easily pull Studio and 1 BR - and have seen them throughout the year. But mostly at SSR and OKW. Have never seen a 1BR pop up at BCV, BW or DWL. Did have a 2 BD at SSR show once - but it was within the 2 month window. (our trader is a 1 BD and decent enought that II will give an AC for).

On that topic - I have an AC that is pulling units right now - even outside of 2months. I have been watching to try and grab a unit in Jan with that AC. Can I assume once we are within the 2 month window the AC will show more?

I check II every morning around 6:45 EST. Is once a day ok - or do they deposit more throughout the day?

You know you can do an ongoing request with an AC for the locations/months on the grid. You have to call II to do it though. That is your best option for what you want. You can still keep looking in case something squeaks by. Remember that the AC's have trade power too, pretty much tied to the trade power of the week in question that produced it. Also note that what you see online is the leftovers so your chances of getting what you generally see over 2-3 years is very high but your chances of getting a larger unit or higher demand resort are better than your instant search results would suggest. And given that more DVC members are exchanging, SSR is still selling and AKV will be coming on board for II in the next couple of years, those chances will improve somewhat.

Thanks - I don't know whey I didn't even thinking of putting the AC out there for an ongoing search - but will do. One last thing....what is a GRID?

On the back of an AC is a grid of what months and areas it can be used in.
