Hello.

We would like to make a trade and go to either the Maui Ocean Club or the Kaui Beach Club next summer. I was wondering if any of you have ever made a successful trade for either of these resorts, and if so, how far in advance did you have to request the trade?

We tried last summer for a week this summer to no avail, and I tried yesterday for a week next summer (I gave an 8 week window too) and nothing was available.

Any tips/info/trip reports would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I don't own disney but I own Marriott and those trades may be difficult especially in the summer months. I am not sure how Disney works but can you put in a pending request. On the Marriott system you can put in a request for a pending where you select the resorts you want to stay at then, you wait. Once a deposit becomes available you will be granted the deposit immediately if you trade is comparable (in your case I would imagine you have a very desirable trade). I was told the average person deposits their request 154 days out in the II system. About six months before you might get your request. Also, since, they are Marriott properties the Marriott owners get a 21 day window advantage over non-Marriott owners (that is the only disadvantage I see you having). Have you considered other resorts like Westin in Maui and Waihoai (spelling?? this resort is also owned by Marriott) in Kauai.

This year we got a trade to The Cliffs Club on Kauai for Thanksgiving week (not our 1st choice but we'll be in Kauai). Good Luck!

Tina -

Thanks for the info. We have not really considered other resorts available for us to trade, but I can look at the resorts available to us through the DVC and consider some of them. The two I mentioned were both recommended to us from friends who had been there or near there, and they are both available as trades.

I have a pending request submitted, so hopefully something will work out.

I have secured trades to Kauai Marriott and see both online. The problem is that you will not likely get anything until 2-6 months out, too late for FF miles and some cheap air options. Both are great if you can live with no full kitchen, they are little more than the DVC studios. Also a 2 BR is essentially impossible. Try for a direct exchange with a member at one of them. Also add the two new Marriott's if DVC adds them (Kauai and Oahu).

how are the kitchens equipped? Microwave, toaster, coffee maker?

Of course, this may not really matter if I cannot work the trade, but it will be useful for future reference. If I were looking for a direct trade, where would I go to look for members of those resorts who would be willing to trade?

Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks!!:smooth:

I'm not 100% certain but I think it's like DVC with a little more cabinet area, electric skillet if I'm not mistaken and real plates and the like. I think there is a mini dishwasher. A quote from TUG:
Eating equipment in the room was limited to a small refrigerator, small microwave, coffee pot, toaster. There was no sink or counter other than in the bathroom.

Thanks Pat -

have you used TUG to make a trade? Has anyone? If so, how was the experience and would you do it again or would you stick to II via DVC in the future??

The kitchen in the 1BR and 2BR condos at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club and Marriott's Kauai Beach Club are not full kitchens — but they'e perfectly adequate if you don't plan to cook or bake (except in the microwave).

Both kitchens come with dishes, flatware, and various containers. In Kauai, these items are around the corner in the closet.

Because these two resorts are converted hotels, each condo has an extra bathroom, off the living room. So a 1BR has 2 bathrooms, and a 2BR has 3 bathrooms. When traveling with kids, that's better than having a stove or oven.

Those are great limited kitchens. I have had the attitude that I didn't want to stay there because of the kitchenettes. I just might have change my opinion. Thanks for sharing those photos. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the pix - they were great. We are really hoping we are able to successfully trade. We've been wanting to go to HI for a while now, and this looks like it would be a great place to stay.
