Is it true that you only fall 12 feet on this attraction?

I read on another board that that is all you fall.

No, that's not true. :)

The largest fall possible is 13 stories -- about 110'. The drop sequence is now somewhat random and is comprised of a number of smaller drops as well as one large one.

I can guarantee you that you drop a LOT more than 12 feet.
This is my favorite ride after being afraid to try it for a few years. My DS always wanted to go on but I chickened out until last year and WOW.....what a great ride!
My DS and I (it's his favorite also) rode TOT 13 times the week we were at WDW in June and I wish it could have been 13 more.
Nothing beats the thrill of TOT, IMHO.
:bounce: :Pinkbounc

I don't think Disney could get away with calling it a Tower of Terror if it only dropped 12 ft. There would be an uproar!:p ;)

Seriously, it's the most awesomely themed, fun ride in the World imho.:D

Part of the thrill is not knowing when you will drop or how far. It's the best. I screamed the whole time.

Even if you don't plan to ride TOT, go through the line & leave by way of the "chicken exit" before you have to get on. The theming & pre-show are fantastic! :smooth:

Thanks Guys ~

Usually when I ride TOT my eyes are welded shut so I wasn't sure but it does feel like more than 12 feet.

There are something like four different sequences that you can encounter on TOT. Some of them shoot you UP instead of DOWN first.
You never know which one until the "drop" sequence begins.

I know my son, 9 can handle the ride itself... but I am curious about the pre-show... is it a little scary or not really?
thanks guys!

Not really scary at all, if he can deal with the pre-show in the Haunted Mansion, he'll be fine. It might even be less scary. It's mainly a tour through the hotel lobby, then a few minutes in the dark library watching a TV screen intro, then a tour through the boiler room that leads to the elevators or the chicken exit! :D

So, if my dd, 9, has seen the movie TOT is based on and loves it, she should be okay with the pre-show stuff? We're trying to decide if we're going to be brave enough to do this one. Splash Mt. does me in everytime, but I say it wouldn't be nearly as bad for me if there were a lap belt or something to hold me down. Does TOT have this??? I'm assuming it does.

ToT has seat belts BUT you WILL NOT stay seated in the seat during the "drops"
;)

Oh man....I may have to rethink my choices here:eek: So my behind is going to be lifting off you say??? We'll be giving that some more thought.

It is an awesome ride! Your behind does leave your seat, but it is a MAJOR RUSH!!!!!!
My 3 yr old liked it too, so it can't be THAT bad! :)

I think the best way to enjoy TOT to the max is to keep eyes open and only lay your hands on your knees. If you can do this you will experience some pretty good AIR time where you will be off your seat and your arms will rise above your head. Don't worry because the safety bar holds you in place. This ride is really FUN and once you do it you will probably want to get right back on.
