TouringPlans sunsetting room requests

With most Disney resorts I book now, the ground floor is what I request. I generally get it. May come with a charge for a request in the future now?

Those are actual booking categories.

I was just going to say the same thing. These are all specific categories and not a request.

I do know that they updated Aruba and part of Jamaica at CBR to now be considered preferred so if you want those buildings, you need to book preferred and not standard.

My speculation here would be they will be moving away from taking the level of requests they have allowed.

IMO, I think they have a lot of guests who get upset when it’s not granted, even though it is always stated it’s not guaranteed.

I don’t ever see Disney charging for something unless it’s guaranteed.

But maybe something like the cruise lines do for upgrades? . You put in the request and agree to pay a certain charge if the request is granted?

Even then, though, I think it’s better for Disney to have complete control of room assignments.

Yes, it would have to be guaranteed. No doubt.

I can understand why Disney would remove the request feature if people who don't them fulfilled end up getting upset. The front desk should not need to deal with people getting upset over such a small thing - That's a first world problem.

However the request feature could serve as an option for Disney to learn what people prefer as location when they checkin. If the majority, request upper floor or near elevator, just like Boardwalk view before BWV was split into the current booking categories, then maybe that could justify creating a new booking category to ensure that specific location. With a separate category you are in fact paying to ensure that location.

The larger problem with that is that it can lead to stranded nights and with DVC , the more categories, the more risk their is for that to happen.

IIRC, we have seen them make an adjustment for the BWV villas for one level vs two? But there was no change to points.

For what it is worth, Member Services and MDE Chat are both still taking arbitrary requests, respectively. See the thread int eh Resorts Board starting on page four. I can't seem to link to that point directly---only individual posts, or the thread beginning.
