Touring Plans Room Request Fax

You actually can go in and modify it yourself though. I took out some rooms that I didn't like the view of. It actually hasn't sent yet though because my trip isn't until June so I'm assuming it will send it as I have modified it.

I did try that once and when I went in to look at something I noticed that it had reverted back to the default text based on the room I initially selected.
But that's not a problem for me. I am not requesting a specific room. I don't want to limit myself that way. I want a specific TYPE of room, which the default text provides.

I used it in November and it was wonderful! I got the specific room I requested at POR, royal rooms. We are using it for this years trip, but we know it's not guaranteed. We have 3 rooms booked at Beach Club, so I put all 3 reservation numbers on one fax request. It doesn't hurt to use it at all.
I agree. The only thing you do not want to do is use it and online check in and select contradictory room categories. That's about the only time it would hurt. I always do both and I always use both to reinforce my choices, as much as I can with online check in.
A good example is don't select 1 building at Poly during online check in and then use a different building as your room on the fax service. That could leave the room assigners confused about what you wanted and could cause them to ignore both requests.

Yes, and also if doing TP's room request and online check-in, do not check off the box that says "My room being ready early takes precedence over room requests." At least I did not just in case. My room was still ready early, before I was even on the DME that morning, so it worked out great.. but I will leave that box unchecked when using both.

That depends on what I want most. If early check in is something that is very important I still check it. Sometimes it's still a priority over the other requests.
But, I also tend to watch the occupancy the night before we arrive. If I see they are sold out I will often leave it unchecked. If there are still rooms available, I check it (if we are arriving before 3:00)

It may not hurt, but it probably doesn't help either. You can't "ensure" connecting rooms in this fashion. There isn't anything you can go to absolutely guarantee connecting rooms or that you will get a specific room. Sending a fax won't help you to get something that isn't available at the time you check in. (and that's the reason some guests don't get their requests).

You're probably better off if your most important request is your only request.

I noticed there was an addition special requests section on the fax.

Could I put something like 'will accept a king room if my first request cannot be met' or something along the lines of that...or will that confuse them?

We used the TP fax in September and while we did not receive any of the exact room #'s we requested, we did receive one in the same building that met all of our requests. So I would say, using the TP was successful for us. I am using it again next month and this time with a very late night arrival.

No doubt the best course of action is to keep your requests to a minimum. I don't think anyone thinks their requests are guarantees or are ensuring they'll get the room. I do think asking helps because if you never ask you sure won't get what you'd want. If you ask, you just might.

I have put notes in the faxes before. Often I will include that we'd like a King room, or whatever is our #1 priority off the room parameters in our sample fax
Again, as I said above, I do not believe it hurts at all to ask and if you don't ask they'll never know what you want, right?

The template that TP's is selling to people has been around for a long time, I am fairly confident they took what people were using and built it into their system. Not that it is proprietary or anything, so be it. I have faxed WDW resorts, on my own, for my last 4 trips and received the room I wanted. I don't know if that is luck or what, but it has worked and I did it on my own.

To be fair, they do not sell their fax service

And I do believe that anyone can fax their requests in. I find it easy to let them remember to do it

We used the Touring Plans room request fax in November for Saratoga Springs and it worked very well.

I also noticed that when I did the online check-in through MDE for our upcoming trip, there is now a place to add room and amenity requests. We are staying in the cabins in Fort Wilderness, so for us there are a list of specific areas ("loops") along with other choices (some of which don't apply to cabins) such as "upper floor", "lower floor", "near transportation", "near pool", etc...of which we can select up to two. I wonder how specific the requests are for other properties.

Where do you find the fax number that is best to use if you do it yourself?

They've been there since MDE started.
The other resorts have similar general requests. Some are more detailed than others.
For instance, at Poly you can request a specific building
But at POR it was much more generic like lower floor, higher floor, corner room, etc.

Does anyone have an Room request form example ?
I do not subscribe to touring plans but I used their room view thing to pick my rooms and get the room "codes" and did my own fax based on their example. We got exactly what we wanted. Here is ours, modified for privacy and with a little more formatting than allowed here haha :smooth:
